Recording yourself on video everyday is phenomenal advice. I tried it everyday for a week now and I can see a huge improvement not only in my speaking abilities but in my confidence when talking to people. I think this is the main reason why KZbinrs become so sociable and confident...its because they record themselves almost everyday and learn from their mistakes. Thanks for the video Conor.

What he said applies to almost everything in life. You don't get muscular with 1 month of training, but if you just keep going and grinding, you'll eventually attain a noticeable change in your body. If you want to get good at a game such as chess, as you play more and more against different players, ultimately you are going to master it. Wise words from this guy. Today's lesson was that no matter how little or big, always put it into the work and take action with what you have learned instead of just watching and reading the same or similar stuff about the subject.

@@Dubai.2161 The idea of practising something everyday for a long period of time will naturally make you better at it. For instance, change speaking with running, if you run for an hour everyday, after a month or two, you'll find yourself so much better at it. You'll have more stamina, better breathing, better strides, stronger leg muscles, and overall, *you'll just be better.* It's hard to do it everyday but once you get the flow going it'll be easy, but you have to do it everyday, that's the only hard part. Hey. I'm Joseph Renelle A. Mendoza from 12 - ABM JOBS of Eusebio HIghschool and I'd like to thank you for teaching me these lessons. I've learned from this that the best way to have improvised capabilities and in-depth quick-time analyzed speech is to just simply practice. By consistently submitting myself under the pressure of speech I am able to better myself of it, and become more fluent in the way that I present myself using my words. I've learned that with just experience, even through failure, I can better myself.

I agree! Recording your speaking and watching yourself is the best way to improve your presenting skills. I think it's because when you give yourself feedback, you've got to listen. That's why I have students bring to class their charged smartphones, so I can record them on their phones when they give their presentations. I know that they will go home, look through their apps and photos, and ask themselves, "Am I going to delete this, ignore it, or am I going to watch myself." Those who decide to watch it are headed on their way to becoming great speakers. What do you think?

@p_roduct92112 ай бұрын
@@joaoS85 Hi. I 100% recommend it at least to learn the techniques to organize your thoughts and words, but it's more than public speaking workshop exercises. They also offer a way to learn how others connect ideas outside of strong articulation. There's little nudges - I won't say direct guidance - on vocabulary, emotion, captivating others etc. The primary mechanism for learning here is feedback. You are expected to share and also encourage others along. If you worked in STEM and are familiar with smart folk who can't get ideas across well, this is perfect to improve those with choppy or overly technical language. Also, the boost to your confidence and hearing encouragement from an open group definitely helps. Be gracious with yourself, but also listen and be attentive to others.

My background is neurolinguistic programming, hypnosis, psycholinguistics , and linguistics. You mentioned in one of my favorite videos you created on speaking about 10, 000 hours to really begin to master an area of any skill set. I truly appreciate your videos ! People have no idea how true that statement about mastery and 10,000 hours is dead on the money ! I’m over 40 years of age ! I’ve been studying these fields since I was 18. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say - I rarely meet people that really really get into this field you and I love with 100% passion !!! The power of words and our ability to use them is both innate and ironically so new from a perspective of total understanding ! Language acquisition should be the first and last thing we study from out infancy to the highest levels of academic and personal competence ! I salute you for your passion ! Keep doing your thing , we need more teachers of knowledge like you !!! God bless

I’ve always doubted myself, fearing my voice doesn’t sound good. I struggle to speak in front of crowds and even to talk to myself on camera. Shyness and my own thoughts hold me back. Feeling stuck, I decided to change. I started going to the gym months ago to boost my confidence. Today, I saw this video where you said, “Just talk to the camera, or you’ve wasted your time watching this.” Those words stuck with me, so I decided to try. It was incredibly tough, my heart was racing, but I opened my laptop, turned on the camera, and started talking. To my surprise, I talked for 5 minutes and 40 seconds, even though you suggested just 3 minutes. I couldn’t believe it-me, a shy, introverted person, talking to the camera for that long! I realized my voice and accent aren’t as bad as I thought. Thanks to your video, many of my self-doubts have vanished. Now, I’m focusing on the real reasons I struggle with public speaking, and I’m ready to work on them too. Thank you so much. This video helped me immensely.

The original book on deliberate practice is called Peak by Anders Ericsson. In this book he noticed that everyone he studied that had achieved a significant level of succes in their field had approximately put in 8 to 10 thousand hours of practice. But those who really excelled, let’s say the top 3 were those who practiced deliberately. Meaning they got feed back on a regular basis from a coach pertaining their efforts in order to correct the mistakes made. Practicing 10 thousand hours whilst doing the wrong thing will not help you achieve your goal.

I am the shyest introvert ever, sadly to a fault😢. I pushed myself to host online workshops but no matter how much i try, i keep freezing and fumbling over my words. I am getting a little more confident with each workshop but i still struggle in front of people 💔. I feel like im just not made for it no matter how hard i try. The algo pushed up this video so i guess its a sign. Im going to keep trying. Thank you for your amazing advice. Bless you sir.

thank you; i noticed that you mentioned the importance of a certain measure of randomness; as a psychology student, i noticed a very sharp divide (akin to the ideological divides present in the left-vs-right brain debates) between processes involving randomness and the ones involving reinforcement schedules; if you are interested, we would be curious about your take on what is a most productive balance between these two factors - does it depend on a person? the situation? a golden middle way? ty
