What I understood is that music industry is one of the hardest industries out there. It requires way more work and creativity than everyone expects. Big names has teams behind, and making it by your own is extremely hard and time consuming. I would say that learning social media marketing now is more important than ever. Music is a product, like everything else, even you fail in music production, that skill is in high demand for all kinds of products out there.
