I began investing in the stock market about four years ago - at the tail end of 2020 when I realized the income I receive from my full time job + interest gained from traditional CD's simply weren't enough. It took me a little over 3 years to put in a little over 100k into SPY (I lived way below my means for some time) I was 31 when I started my investment journey - many are telling me I still have time on my side. While I do not disagree, I wish I learned about the benefits of investing and growing monetary wealth earlier.

You made several great points like being able to actually understand and do a simple tax return or career choosing. I would say interest has to feed that and just because someone desires to be a Dr and there “seems to be high income” that isnt necessarily always true. This is because today Drs are being pressured to cut costs, fill out and comply to dozens of “rules” and promote certain Rx’s simply because it is the Dr’s standard protocol so they can’t individualize to the patient and consider a natural supplement for example. Things like this need to be thought through.

Public schools prioritize nonsense over essential information and its not changing directions any time soon. My family was equally clueless as I was. I eventually found the information I was searching for through people like you on platforms like this.

I think reading The Millionaire Next Door by Stanley & Danko would be a great place for high school students to start.

From tax savings, to purchasing property and everything in between, it's disappointing to find out 15 years too late that there were things that would of SIGNIFICANTLY changed the outcome. Our school system is a failure, intentional failure... they don't want us to know this stuff. At the very least, Morgan Housel's book called the Psychology of Money, should be a mandatory read. It's the best financial advice anyone will get without it being financial advice. Our first steps to financial freedom are all about building a good base, our base is how we look at money and what it's actually supposed to be used for. Only then can we go up.

Children growing up into adulthood often blame the school system and their math teacher (or teachers in general) for not being taught about taxes, the stock market, checking, and savings. But why put the blame on them when those teachers have been pleading with you to listen and do your math homework? If you cannot complete a homework assignment with just 10 questions, what makes you think, i.e., the student, will listen and learn about financial literacy? These TikTokers do not see the value of education or getting a college degree! But when they cannot pay rent, gasoline, or put food on the table, all of a sudden, someone else is at fault or blamed.

The Problem is that the School System is that They give a one Size Fits All. I have bad Ball Skills and My worst Teacher was My Phys Ed Teacher having to put up with His Insults for Missing the Ball. My Art Teacher was My Favourite as Art is one of My Strengths

I understand the importance of financial education but most kids in high school dont have the mindset or interest. Most of them are more interested in social media, dating and just having out with friends.
