I had a Grover Cleveland moment once., it creeped me out beyond belief. One time while I was visiting my mom's church, I got to hold an infant and one of the older ladies standing around me while this was happening said "You make such a cute couple, promise me you'll get married when you're both older." She chuckled and another lady made the comment that I could help raise the girl "just like I wanted" and then the pair laughed. I felt like all the blood drained out of me in that moment and I have never felt more creeped out. I was 19 at the time.

This video seems to conflate being kinky with being a sexual predator. [added for clarity] Simon begins by saying "if the metoo movement has taught us anything, it's that perverts are everywhere." It's clear from the rest of the video that 'perverts' is intended to include people who are consensually kinky. Obviously, the metoo movement isn't about kinkiness or the lack of it--it's about sexual predators. There's nothing contradictory about a sexual predator who only performs heterosexual 'missionary-position' sex. It's treating two un-correlated things as if they were the same thing. It's similar to saying "if the Catholic church's cover up of child abuse has taught us anything, it's that gay culture can be found even in religion."

To be a Pervert is defined as: "A person whose sexual behaviour is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable" By this measure (and by the social norms of the times these people lived), to be perverted is to not be heterosexual and "vanilla" in ones appetites.
@ViveMeorLeti
@ViveMeorLeti 6 жыл бұрын
Michael, sure, but they're using "perverts" (the most extreme end of the spectrum) in the title, probably because it sounds juicier and more scandalous, but it also creates a link in people's minds between that word and the men in the video, regardless of what they had actually done. And by grouping mild whipping and lusting after 8 year olds together, they're doing the kink community a huge disservice. Because there are still people out there who think anyone who isn't vanilla is a complete pervert (the kind of people who think homosexuality leads to bestiality, for example), and there is no need to throw any more fuel on that distasteful fire.

No Roman Polanski? I guess cause he's still alive and might be litigious. There's also Lewis Carroll; although I have heard that his love of little girls might have been suspicious, he at least was never known to have acted upon it.
@lindasteel4502
@lindasteel4502 6 жыл бұрын
LodiTX I think I saw a video recently which did mention Roman Polanski, I'm sure it was TopTenz. It was about Hollywood people who had fallen from grace. Some of these I don't think are perverts, just a bit odd, and I agree with a lot of the comments that there are some major paedophiles left off the list whilst many of those mentioned consist of consenting adults.
@shyanmarie4405
@shyanmarie4405 6 жыл бұрын
Roman Polanski is a nasty man. But Lewis Carroll was possibly a sicko as well??? I'm not calling you a liar, but I was wondering where you found this information? It would make sense since most of his stories center around children, specifically girls.
@loditx7706
@loditx7706 6 жыл бұрын
The point of my reply was that he was not a sicko. He didn't do anything wrong. He had a marked preference for little girls and their wonder and innocence. He wrote the Alice books about a specific little girl, but also collected pictures of little girls and spent time talking and walking and playing with them. I don't know that anyone made anything of it at the time, but in retrospect scholars (who have to find new things to study and write about) have delved into the motivation for his apparent fixation with little girls, but whatever his fantasies, if any, he never acted on them; therefore he was not a sicko. He did have a form of autism that allowed him to function at a high level, but caused problems with social interactions. Perhaps because of his autism he found it easier to spend time with little girls. That last sentence is pure speculation on my part. I know little about Lewis Carroll and less about autism.
@just-dl
@just-dl 5 жыл бұрын
Carroll wasn't a perv; he was mentally or emotionally a child himself. He enjoyed playing with children (felt more comfortable with them) and especially, the girls. One of the kids who grew up with him made several comments (one in lovely british dry humour) about the complete lack of sexuality in his involvement, but the awkwardness of realizing one has grown up, but the close friend of one's mother and father hadn't...in short, "out growing" an older man....
@loditx7706
@loditx7706 5 жыл бұрын
D L: Yes, you see. That was the point of my comment. One cannot know another's inner desires or fantasies and even if they are such as might raise questions; in the case of Carroll it is generally accepted that whatever his fantasies he never acted upon them. In the case of the friend you quoted what was stated was no doubt correct, but for a different reason than his immaturity. She had outgrown him. She became an adult and he preferred little girls. For most of his life he was an instructor in mathematical logic and linear algebra at Christ Church, Oxford University. He was also an ordained Anglican cleric. None of these accomplishments indicate to me a man suffering from a Peter Pan complex, such as you imply; nor do his friendships with John Ruskin, Dante Rosetti, Hunt, Millais, etc. He was very comfortable and welcomed by adults and at house parties was an entertaining guest not afraid to sing tolerably well, indulge in story telling, and was reportedly adept at charades. I suggest you do some research on Charles Dodgson, his real name. The argument about his possible pedophilia continues among scholars and probably always will, with no conclusion being reached.

Jerry Lee Lewis - married his first cousin once removed who was also 13 at the time, I believe? And he was technically still married (to his second wife) when he married his cousin, so they had to marry again. I believe he had 6 wives in total.

One fact about the Marquis De Sade was he was in the Bastille in 1789, but was moved out before the revolution because he kept shouting obscenities at passers by through the pipe used as a toilet.

Lewis Carroll had uncomfortably close relationships with a few families filled with underage girls. One, named Alice, was considered the influence for his best known character. He was also a prolific photographer and at the time had a few thousand photos, which was considerable compared to other photographers. While many were destroyed after his death there are a few that include young girls in revealing outfits so there is speculation the destroyed photos were even more revealing and offer a view into his darker side.

Turns out my father, unbeknownst to my mother, was a little bit of a pervert though as far as I could ascertain, he kept his perversions to himself and explored them strictly through reading up on the topic. Since he was not famous, no one but my mother cared and since his eyes never wandered, I don't think she cared much. In 1918 my father went to France. In 1919 after the war ended his unit commander began letting the troops have a little time off rotating them a few at a time for a few days of R&R most of which occurred in Paris. He liked old books so he visited some of he book shops that survived the war. This much I have verified with receipts and stationary that he brought back but I will get to that in a moment. Years after my parents died and in fact some years after I inherited the house that I grew up in which was also the house my father and grandfather were born in and also grew up in, I did some renovation work or rather restoration work that necessitated partially demolishing a wall in his library. The wall turned out to be about two feet thick with a huge space inside. I discovered that there was in fact a secret access panel but not until I tore down the wall. Inside were boxes, an old army foot locker and paper bags filled with all manner of books, magazines and personal items. A great many items were in French and a great many were quite old. Some were dated to the late 18th century and some were undated but based on the printing style and condition looked to be from about the same period. Not being a speaker or reader of French I sought the advice of an acquaintance who could in fact interpret French for me. She briefly skimmed some of the loose pagers and documents and glanced at some of the books and announced that my father had bought a significant amount of old literature and other items from several shops in Paris in 1919 and that he was a monstrous pervert. She adamantly refused to translate any further and suggested I burn the lot. Well the foot locker itself contained my father's dough boy uniform, medals, mess kit, personal items and his Browning 1918 rifle and I have no idea how he snuck that across the pond because I was under the impression that they were not for keeping but for only using while on the battle field but then I'm not a military historian. So that I was keeping. I was on the fence about the rest but I don't like being told what to do so I ignored her advice and sought out the help of an older gentleman of French extraction who was a little more open minded. He was a Jesuit priest. I invited him over to my library where I had the material spread out on my table for him to examine. Now I had noticed that some of the works were profusely illustrated with some rather explicit and perverted engravings of surprisingly high qualities. I believe some would cause Larry Flint to blush had he seen them. My friend the Jesuit did a lot of "hmmming" and "ahaaahhing" and some "OH My's!" and then informed me that I had a more or less complete collection of the works of the Marquis de Sade along with those of several of his French and ironically a couple of his German contemporaries. But then he explained that according to some of the documents, these were likely author copies based on the notations in some of the margins of the books and documents. One hand written manuscript of about 80 pages that included a handful of crude but explicit sketches he explained he guessed was an unpublished story written by De Sade. So I sought additional advice from a professor of 18th century French literature that he recommended who then hooked me up with an antiquarian book seller that specialized in "libertine literature." It appears that my grandfather's receipts and documents along with some older documents included all point to this having been a collection of items that came down in the de Sade family and had been auctioned off sometime late in the 19th century to one of the Parisian book sellers my father had visited. He had paid a relatively low sum of 15 francs for the lot, considerably less than the book seller paid a couple of decades earlier in a Paris auction. I asked the book seller what he thought the value was today (30 years ago) and he informed me that it might perhaps fetch around $1500 US for it though he also said that was only if I burned about 75% of the collection and tear out some of the engravings from some of the books which in his opinion no auction house would touch. As for the original manuscript, he confirmed for me that it was in de Sade's handwriting and authenticated it for me then said I would never be able to sell it due the content since nobody would want it. I did not follow his advice. It seems that after over 200 years some of his published works have never been translated into English. That book seller offered to translate them for me and as he did he gave me some updates. He expressed the opinion that although de Sade had a unique insight and popularity in some circles, was an atrocious writer and doubts many people have actually ever read his completes works. I am of those few people now that I have had the previously untranslated works translated. The only price I had to pay was a small 18th century document with de Sade's signature on it that I let him keep. He has it framed in an ornate antique frame on the wall behind the counter in his shop. I had several of his autographs so I didn't think it a particularly high price. After reading his works I have concluded that the shop keeper is correct about the quality of his writing. Reading his work is tedious at best. In some of his works it is clear he has a one track mind. Poop! It seems that was all he thought about 90% of the time. While he did have some rather violent and sadistic fantasies, his main interest seems to have been poop. He went to great length describing infinite myriad of things that he thought one could do with poop in every conceivable variation repeating the same over used florid and unimaginative phraseology ad nauseam ad infinitum. His great talent wasn't making people sick from reading the most disgusting words ever written in the French language but rather his great talent was his ability to bore people to death. Even the most avid pervert with an unquenchable thirst for perverted literature, and I use the word literature very loosely, would unlikely be able to complete reading any of his longer work due to being induced into a narcoleptic state in a few minutes. I doubt any of those who prosecuted him or analyzed him, if you could call what they did in French prisons at that time analysis, ever read past the first chapter. But someone needs to preserve his writings. I don't claim to have everything he ever wrote or published as there may be something I missed but I think I have come close. I don't claim to have every document or book he ever owned but rather a tiny fraction of his vast collection but I do have many key items. I have one book that he wrote his name in as a youngster that is richly illustrated with early 18th century engravings. The book is a history of corporal punishment and various forms of torture. It was a gift from his uncle who was an abbot though it is unclear if that abbot was an actual priest though usually they were. The illustrations are for the most part quite explicit, violent and most of the victims are naked. The perfect gift for an adolescent and impressionable boy. This was shortly after de Sade's father ran off and abandoned the family. Later on de Sade was repeatedly abused and tortured by the headmaster of a private school he was sent to. I have also a sketch by de Sade, it was a crude sketch and and explicit one apparently drawn around 1755 when de Sade would have been around 15 years old. it is of such a nature that if I described it here I would most likely lose my KZbin account permanently. In many countries such a description made public would earn me a lengthy prison sentence. Fortunately my attorney's inform me that owning my collection is perfectly legal though just barely so in a couple of instances. De Sade's position in this video is well earned. The use of his name in modern context as mentioned in this video is a it should be. He wasn't the first sadist but he perfected sadism.

Thanks for sharing this interesting story. There is generally no smoke without fire and some people (not necessarily men) are really deranged in their minds and actions. Worse still is that many of these could go on for so long thanks to being royal or aristocrats. If De Sade would have been a farmer he would have been executed on an early stage.

My Great Grandmother married at 13yrs. Since her future husband's family would have objected she and her parents lied and said she was 14yrs. All I know about his age is that he was over 18yrs (probably 21) and they were happily married for at least 4 decades. Only she, he and their parents knew of their true ages. She confessed to her ' young love ' three days prior to her death when she also had to admit she was only 102yrs and not 103yrs. It seems young marriage was not looked down upon, depending on family blessings.

To the degree there is anything taboo about an 18 year old and a 45 year old having a relationship, the "guilty" party is going to be the 45 year old, not the teenager (even more so back then, because women's sexuality was generally frowned upon no matter what they did with it). Also, no relationship between them has ever been confirmed, and the only source quoted was the theory of a single friend.

Caligula's real name was...Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus. Caligula means "little boots" in Latin. A nickname given to him by soldiers of the 9th legion. He would not have been called Caligula when he came to power.
