So clean, man. I've been trying to learn some of these on bass myself and you make it look so effortless.

Great work, man. It seems most Japanese music (pop, ballad, citypop, even J-rock and metal) uses Jazz basses in their songs, it suits it very well ❤

Thank you, this video made my day significantly better, your choices made me smile so much! I would like to pick a favourite among those I didn't know but while they all represent different moods and atmospheres they're also "classic" citypop vibes! I also love how you comment on the composition/arrangements/formation , it's entertaining and it shows great culture

@thecitypopbassist4 жыл бұрын
Hi! It’s a constellation of things, but it’s basically bass > balanced out on my GK200MB amp > interface (preamp bypassed) > Logic. I do some mixing (light EQ/compression) to the song to get the bass to sit similarly to the original, and then mix to taste. Beyond that, good technique and a well set-up bass will always get you good tone, and that goes for every kind of bass!

daolchang I’m going to make a video regarding my bass (actually, new bass now - I’m not using this one anymore)! But for some guidance I am using here a heavily modded Squier Vintage Modified 70’s Jazz Bass. Headstock paint done by the previous owner, further modded by myself with Fender Am STD Jazz Bass pickups with cream covers and a Gotoh 201-b Himass bridge. Brings up the playability and overall sound close to 70’s jazz bass territory, although I suspect the CV and Player Jazz Bass can get closer. Either one will likely be fine, it’s really looks and the name on the headstock at that point. If you like this sound I suggest you stick to official Fender/Squier at this price range as a lot of the sound depends on correct pickup placement - the Corts are a little bit off as I understand them. I would also take a little bit of time to learn how to set up your bass (action/intonation), or look for a tech/luthier who can do it, it makes playing a lot easier and it’ll sound a lot better too!

Hey, you are really skilled and i love all your covers. Really good job. I m enjoying! I just a little confused about the Michael McDonald keyboard part. What is your meaning about that? I can pretty sure that part is similar to What A fool Believes. I m not sure Michael McDonald involved in the production of Shyness Boy or not. You mean Shyness Boy's producer keyboardist maybe refer Michael or Sampled or what. Sorry for my broken english.
@thecitypopbassist3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Michael McDonald wasn't involved in the production of Shyness Boy - I was just noting that the part sounded a lot like the piano part in What A Fool Believes!
