Not Yu-gi-oh but similar idea. MTG has a few neat pieces of jargon. For instance, Loot- An effect that draws a card, then discards a card. Rummage- The exact opposite, discard then draw. Dump- A foolish effect (watch the video) Ditch- Discard a card (typically as a cost) Swing- To declare an attack. Stax- A strategy focused on denying an opponent the ability to do anything (basically a deck full of floodgates) Wheel- Force each player to discard their hand, and then draw a new hand. (Basically Card Destruction, except it is a whole category of cards) Edict- An effect that forces one or more players to sacrifice a creature.

I've always heard "brick" used as "I can't do anything with my opening hand except maybe normal summon a crap monster and set a couple of MSTs" (basically you can't do any combos and you don't have any defenses either). "Dead draw" was Garnet before Garnet became Garnet (the card you didn't want in your hand because it needs to be in the deck for the effect you want to pull off to work). "Win-more/win-moar" would be a good one to cover. A card that can only work when you're already going to win anyways, so it's only good for taunting kids playing Steelswarm or Ice Barrier. Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon would be perfect here. "Cycle" as well (cards like Graceful Charity or Allure of Darkness that are technically neutral advantage-wise but allow you get more cards out of [or "cycle through"] your deck in exchange for getting rid of duplicate or dead cards in your hand.

@k0ngbuster4 жыл бұрын
A term that I crafted for myself for when an effect that has no ignition, but is just an omni-present effect, I call Spell Speed Zero. This can be applied for effects where the card states "This card is always treated as (Insert card archetype here like some Cyber Dragon cards and Harpie Lady cards.)" Or the effect of Jinzo, it never actually activates, the effect just stays on-board and never goes off.

There's a term not mentioned in neither video and it's very common: "Cowboy For Game", any card that allows you to burn your opponent at the Main Phase 2, after you battled, to end your opponent's LP, it's a "Cowboy For Game" effect.
@LegendLeaguer4 жыл бұрын
Flower Cardian Lightshower is also a Cowboy, even if it happens in your opponent's draw phase. In the draw phase it's practically the same as the previous turn so I count it

One-for-one draw cards are often referred to as "cantrips" in other card games. Of course I can see how Upstart would be worthy of its own nickname because the lack of mana costs in Yugioh which makes cycling through your deck much more powerful.

"OTK" generally refers to a deck that uses battle damage as it's win con, you have to go second to win on YOUR first turn, while an "FTK" can be performed without battle damage, making it possible to win on the very FIRST turn

Bomb can also refer to a card in your deck that does something impressive that puts you far ahead, and that's about it, and it also needs some specific stuff to be set up since it's likely a win con also. Super Rejuvenation is a Bomb since it draws an absurd amount of cards. Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth is a Bomb since it Special Summons an absurd amount of monsters for you to Link Summon with. But you usually side deck out Bombs, since they're usually too hard to pull of going second or just don't do any board breaking.

I'm wondering if this is a term more generally used in Yugioh this way, but in your honorable mentions you note a "Bomb"/"Nuke" as something that destroys the board. While this is an accurate use of the term to describe a certain number of cards in this category I've also experienced people using it in MTG and other card games to describe a card that makes enough of a significant impact on the board state to tip the game in your favor. Traditionally "bombs" are expensive cards, requiring a lot of resources because what they do is usually enough to help you win the game by themselves. Decks usually run a few "bombs", and most decks should have at least a few, or at least that's what I've been told about deck construction for a good number of decks. A deck can run without any of them but like any good boss monster it traditionally helps to have a few cards that when you put them out there it significantly contributes to your overall win con. While a good number of them do have board clearing abilities I feel like it is only a small portion of what a "bomb" is capable of in different decks. Examples being something like Blightsteel Colossus, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, and Emrakul, The Promised End/Aeons Torn from MTG, and cards like Malygos, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, and Dr. Boom from Hearthstone. Each usually have decks that can run their strategy against them but placing any of these on the board of a deck constructed with them in mind will generally swing the game in your favor. Just a few thoughts. Love the videos, keep up the great work!
@LegendLeaguer4 жыл бұрын
That's because MTG has it's own jargon for a board wipe. Usually Wrath, from Wrath of God in Alpha. The new Shatter the Sky is a fairer Wrath, but it's still a Wrath, particularly at 4 cmc.

That's weird, I always thought of Armades effect as Ancient Gear effects, despite the fact that most ancient gears only disable back row when attacking (although some do disable monster effects)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you open with all 5 exodia pieces in an official tournament, don't you lose that duel? (as a fail safe against players stacking the deck)

It seems like it'd be more fair to throw it out. On the off chance (*very* off chance, that's like one of those literal one in a million things) that I just actually draw it, I shouldn't lose, although I do think it's fair that I shouldn't win either.
