Well, seeing as there are now 3 volumes of the book of the dead, it's all the more plausible for Pamela to have one in her house. The narrator of Evil Dead 2's prologue blatantly states that amongst other things, the book contains funeral incantations.

I consider the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and the Naturom Demonto as two separate volumes out of a trilogy of books seen in the Army of Darkness and mentioned in Evil Dead Rise. Each book may have different abilities and weaknesses. This theory of mine (and presumably many others) gives credence to Jason's origins and, yes, even Freddy!

The TV show, in a way, kind of solves most questions. It establishes that the book has more than the Raise Deadites and Time Travel spells. There are other demonic entities connected to it. There's also more time travel in the show which explicitly changes some things in the past, but other stuff seems to carry over. As I recall, we even end up with there having to be two versions of the book existing during the same time period. (Another comment mentions that Ruby also made copies, which I completely forgot) Basically, Ash breaks reality so hard that it might easily explain the differences in the prologues of each movie. It might also explain how the remake is part of the same universe, and how Jason can be too. As you know, the Friday movies have their own continuity hiccups, to say the least. And for all we know, Pamela Vorhees was a very well-read women who found herself trapped by circumstances with Mr. Vorhees. Or she just shacked up with a grad student or something who could read the book. BTW: sunlight doesn't always work on Deadites. The one in the mrdieval pit followed Ash out. I'm curious to see what questions may arise with the new movie.
@fishman6660 Жыл бұрын
According to some Necronomicon lore, it had been translated into several languages over the centuries. The fact that the one that Pamela had was bound in human flesh gave it its power, but it could have even been an English translation. And, as you stated, I believe in your last UAQ on Evil Dead, you can tell that the book has at least 100 pages. The spell that raises the Deadites takes less than a minute, so there are more spells in there. So Mama used another spell in the book to bring Jason back. so, there you have it (oh dang, I'm probably going to have to pay some kind of copyright fee now). Awesome as always, Josh!

In the second film there was a deleted scene in the beginning where Ash burns the book just like in the first movie. It was part of the recap in the beginning, at night after having buried Linda. Ash vs Evil Dead might be continued as an animated series. Personally I'd love to see a prequel about the creation of the Necronomicon. It's briefly touched upon in Ash vs Evil Dead and that story could be fleshed out.

For the book being in the Friday the 13th, there's nothing to stop it from having more than one copy that exists. Even in Lovecraft's own stories, there's more than one copy of the different dark books. Some translated to different languages and some where knowledge of how to read it has been passed down by the families (often living as outcasts from society in remote areas) that have always possessed it. Add to that, every type of spell book I've ever heard of had strings of spells for different uses, and I could see Jason's mom having family ties where she could access such a book and figured out how to use it to resurrect him and give him a form of extended unholy life.
@ericsmith1508 Жыл бұрын
You are either forgetting, ignoring or are unaware of something VERY important about the Necronomicon. Written centuries ago by Alhazred the Mad Arab, "Al Azif" comes to us directly from Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. In the Mythos there are several known and a good number of suspected copies of the Necronomicon. Many cults that worship the dark things in this book have at least crude copies of pages and sections most directly related to whatever they are interested in doing with it, as of course its spells and rituals do many things in many different ways. Take the Wizard Whately for instance. He had copies of the pages necessary for impregnating his daughter with the offspring of YogSathoth and bringing a manifestation of that thing into our world. He didn't have a complete set nor a perfect translation however and his grandson Wilbur tried to steal the pages he needed from Miskatonic University. And "bumpkin" you say? Of Pamela Voorhees? Why my good sir, it is of such stock that many who seek the forbidden knowledge of the Necronomicon typically are born! Again we refer back to the Whately family! Most of the actual cultists of the Old Ones who have and or seek copies of the Necronomicon are degenerate inbreds and simple hillfolk. We see this time and again throughout the Mythos stories. With respect I say: no, you are wrong. It is the Necronomicon. Pamela probably already had a crude copy of this tome, and was probably already involved in such things. I mean think about it! No one just randomly goes that far off the deep end, especially on a group of kids who were just working at the place where their son died! That sort of madness had to have already existed in her mind BEFORE her son died! The revenge killings of the counselors at the camp may have even been a part of the ritual she needed to perform to bring Jason back. I will give you that Jason is not a "Deadite" per se. Again the book has much forbidden knowledge in it and can do many different kinds of dark things. She didn't summon any Deadites to possess her son's body. She tried to summon her son's exact soul back to his body. And sure, I am mentioning things here that aren't even hinted at in the Evil Dead series, but I feel that since it comes to the Evil Dead as a direct and intentional reference to that book in the Cthulhu Mythos, then the properties attributed to it there are more than worthy of consideration for speculating on what it may do in other properties where it is referenced. So, sure! Jason isn't a "Deadite" but, it is the same continuity, a copy of the same book, just a different spell used to perform a different kind of ressurection ritual. It *IS* the Necronomicon.

You bring up some good points. I'm often surprised how people love the Evil dead franchise but are not even aware of Lovecraft, despite the ED being a sort of unofficial Lovecracftian offshoot.
@ericsmith150810 ай бұрын
@abegarfield7031 Ever since becoming aware of Lovecraft myself, I have personally considered the Evil Dead part of the Cthulhu Mythos. And other than its obvious comedic overtones, its subject matter really does fit into the Mythos quite well! Even with the recent Evil Dead movie which completely diverged from the "comedy," I still feel like Miskatonic University and Ashley Williams are in that same continuity! I like to think that the serious and horrific tone of the new Evil Dead movie and that of Lovecraft's stories is EXACTLY what everyone around Ash is seeing and feeling, but he became so unhinged by his first experience in that cabin that he is detached from reality and is just cracking jokes at all these terrifying events.

The demon doesn't possess just the living. What about Linda's corpse? What about the ARMY OF DARKNESS?? Plus it could be argued that Scotty was dead when he was possessed, so I don't see how that stops Jason from being a deadite or some other creatures brought to life by the book.

One hundred percent agree that Jason isn't a deadite, or at least not a traditional one anyway. Jason is clearly not possessed by any demon that usually creates deadites. However, there are other demons that can be released from the book, not just the ones that create Deadites. This is shown in the movies, the comics, The Show, and so on. These demons have different rituals required to bring them form and all of them act differently to the possessed deadites. Jason is possessed by some demon in Jason Goes to hell, you could argue that it's the same as the one that created the Pit Witch. Since they both act kind of similar, as in signal minded killing machines that don't toy with their victims. Or something similar to the thing demon in season 3 as Jason seems to have some form of body mutation going on (not like season three but something as there was demon Jason in Jason goes to hell. Although he was cut out.) But even if that's not the case you could argue that Jason was possessed by any other type of demon released by the book. For the Book again I agree with you as I don't believe that it's technically the one in Evil Dead, but I do believe it is the Necronomicon. I think this because there are clearly more than one copy of the book, or maybe even multiple volumes, like a collection of evil encyclopedias. There are at least three different books, in the evil dead franchise. (And I don't mean the ones shown in army of darkness) If you just look at the original movie and the reboot both these things are said to take place in the same universe yet both books look different and are even referenced with different names. Both names ruffly mean the same thing but why go out of your way to refer to a stapple part of the franchise (The Necronomicon Ex-mortis) as the Naturom Demonto, unless you are implying that they are different copies of the same book. And when you look at the new movie coming out the book again looks different, don't know if they are again in the same universe, but if they are it again creates an implication that these are different books. So the copy owned by Pamela could just be a different copy that just looks similar to Ash's. Don't have a satisfying answer for how Pamela could read the book. But the only thing I can think of is that she didn't. She somehow came into possession of the book and the book influenced her somehow allowing her to read the book but it's more like the entity is reading it through Pam. Or it's quite possible that Pam was a part of some Deadite Cult, or new someone who was. She looks like the type to dabble in occult stuff. Maybe she joined the cult under the impression that they would bring her son back, the ritual required human sacrifices, which is why she went to the camp in the first movie that was the ritual to bring her son back (easy for her because she had already killed many times before). Except it wasn't really Jason it was the demon possessing his corpse, a different type of demon distinct from deadites. Before Pam left the cult, she could have stolen there copy of the book of the dead went back to her house and just left it there, before killing the campers in the first movie. There is also the possibility that she just has the notes from this copy of the book, and we just didn't see it in the film. Where did the notes come from whoever owned the book before Pam. Not satisfying I know but not impossible have you ever picked up or bought a used book opened it a found that pages are highlighted, underlined, have notes written in them, or have separate pages of notes left in them. But all this last part is mostly just speculation and fan rationalization from spending way to many years over thinking it. But either way if your one of the people who argues that Jason can't be a deadite, just know that people think you're no fun at parties. Just joking, anyway Love your videos, always entertaining, to watch.

I'll go one further and say the the Necronomicon in Jason Goes To Hell was just that, a prop placed there by Robert Campbell. Look at the scene again, after Steven finds the book Campbell comes in talking about dressing the house up and how he already stole Diana's body from the morgue, which Steven finds when he hides from Campbell. Who's to say he didn't just grab a creepy looking book from the prop bin at the TV studio he works at?

Had to add another comment here. The healed injuries thing does have a possible answer. When the evil is purified, as you hinted, part of that is purifying the body by healing nontraumatic injuries. If you're torn up but intact, you get healed. But if you're torn apart or lose a limb, then the healing doesn't work. Like you said, magic. Now, the five souls. I see it as the five souls CAN bring the Dark One, but it needs those souls to remain possessed to gain full strength. So if it has five possessed souls, you get something like what appeared in the Ash vs Evil Dead finale. But if any souls get purified, it will resurrect but much weaker depending how many get purified. Since EVERYONE got purified, we got a weak and easily defeated Dark One.

I always considered the first three Evil Dead movies to be a retelling of the same story from one VERY unreliable narrator, which IMO makes sense considering things get progressively crazier and Ash gets progressively more heroic with each chapter, and the final movie reveals that he is, indeed, recounting the story to his coworkers. The "real" Ash is the one we meet in Ash vs. Evil Dead, who's been through pretty much everything he said but is much more of a selfish dipshit than he ever let on, but he eventually (at least tries to) grow into the hero he told everyone he was.

In many theological texts a demon has to, on some level, be invited in. This has been evidenced in many stories that utilise faith or will as the crucible of the soul. Pain, fear, despair and torment are the tools of the infernal. Look to the Bible, Qur'an, esoteric Judaism and even Lovecraft as a devise. In the first movie Ash was pragmatic enough not to leave the cabin but later too damn stubborn and pig-headed to be taken for more than a few moments. He may very well have been able to save his hand just by being a huge prick to the "forces" that haunted the Knowby cabin. I think he was victorious for the same reason Fry from Futurama won against the Big Brain. Because he is the Greetest!

Hellraiser also has hidden connections if you are going this deep into various horror lore. To dig up the Candarian Castle, they would have taken more time than show up and explore Skyrim style plus there would have had to be research that led to the location. Pam could very well have partial research notes and other occult information. In the real world, multiple printings of the Lesser Key of Solomon and the Gmicalzoma (enochian language book) exist so she may have done some misguided amateur voodoo resulting in Jason being as he does. The Cult of the Thorn in Halloween may work similarly as well.

For the 'how does it take over question' there's a possible mechanic nobody considers. Thanks to similar tropes we tend to assume it's just the Deadite entity and the host it takes, and there's some barrier that can be breached/restored. Something happens to you and it lets a Deadite gets in. Very direct. However what if there's no host. What if there's a conduit instead. So instead of there being a Deadite in the basement there's something looking through Ash and using his perspective of the world to manifest a Deadite in the basement. It could be as simple as 'does the conduit think this is possible' or it could be a complicated mix of how they feel about the world, their mental state, stress levels, fears, etc (which would explain why the Deadites are extremely performative and bait them into madness). Sometimes the conduit is in a state where it only provides a weak connection, and other times it's wide open giving the Deadite near limitless freedom. It could also explain why Ash is usually in the middle of it. He's sort of dumb and his mind is very in the moment. If the thread is tied to mental state/perception there's no reason things like the hand scene wouldn't work.

Thoughts on Friday 9 It’s not the original book, but one of the copies Ash split in AOD. Either the wormhole book (most likely) or the flying book (less likely ) by self inverting the wormhole book could potentially have transported itself to the future, (by going inside itself) it would explain why Jason’s ability set was vastly different from regular Deadite behaviour in that being a copy, it’s result would have been inferior. M pretty sure the comics and The tv series make allusions to the copy books appearing in modern times to some extent, thinking about it that way it’s really not that much of a stretch. As to how Pamela was able to transcribe the book to use it’s abilities? Well you got me there.

IE because his sheer willpower. Something we see works later on in Freddy vs Jason. Freddy was angry that jason is too uncontrollable and simply wont go down 3.We know the book is self aware and can influence others. Whose to say the book simply didnt tell Pamela the passages? So as far as Question 1 goes, I'm not sure that Will Power is quite right in regards to why he wasn't possessed outright like the others. We see his resolve break a number of times, especially in army of darkness and ash vs. I think more than likely, fear is the primary factor in this. Out of everyone in the series, Ash seems to be the only one that isn't really scared or frightened, despite all the horrific things going on around him. The few times we do see him give in to his fear seems to line up with his possessions. The deadites are either empowered by your fear, or they use it against you in some way that allows them to take possession of you. Inflicting pain is one way to instantly instill fear on you. They use hallucinations or horrific shows of power to unnerve you, lowering your guard. It's not perfect, but to me it makes sense.

This is what I don't get Ruby stated in Ash vs. Evil Dead that she has something to do with the Necronomicon.

Jason may not be a deadite but Mrs V could still have used it to bring him back, he's something different. There could be more than one copy?

The Mandela Effect is real. I heard you say Christopher Reeves a couple of times. His name has never been that now in this reality, it's always been Reeve, although I remember Reeves too ;)
@ajclements4627 Жыл бұрын
George Reeves was Superman in the 50s tv series Adventures of Superman. Christopher Reeve played Superman in the 70s into the 80s. The Mandela effect isn’t real.

@@ajclements4627 I love it when people bring up George Reeves. He wasn't talking about George and neither was I. The Mandela Effect is real. There are hundreds of changes.

Could it be possible that the Necromonicon wasn’t there due to Pamela, but due to Elias instead?

It said it just needs to, "FEED," on five souls... it didn't say that it must fully consume five whole souls... it could have just took a little nibble from each one, lol. 🤭

Why did the medieval soldiers capture Ash in AoD when they were cheering him at the end of ED2, presumably less than an hour or so before

Because of retcon.

1. I can't believe i never noticed the shotgun gaffe in AoD! 2. That remake, along with almost all modern remakes is so much joyless pap. Wish they never made it.

THE TIME LOOP THING ☝🏽 Depends if you count Evil Dead 3’s alternate ending or not. IN ONE ENDING - Ash returns to the time he came from IN THE ALTERNATE ENDING - Ash wakes up in a post apocalyptic London, England

Even though I'm looking forward to Evil Dead rise. I'm so disappointed they did make a sequel to the remake of Evil Dead.

I disagree with Hitler Wolverine. Everyone know Mr. Vorhees was Kandarian and was the one who did the translating.

Spoilers for Evil Dead Rise ......... According to Evil Dead Rise, it was revealed that there are three books of the Dead. Does that change the answers to some of the questions? So that would be one from the original movie, one from the 2013 film, and another found in Rise. I wonder if any more movies will follow up on this.

I had a roller hockey team that I named the army of darkness right after the movie We kicked like butt and stuff man let me tell you and I had the coolest jerseys It was a skull and crossbones but the crossbones rocky sticks and the teeth spaces were hockey pucks and it had like a goalie mask face and that almost looked a lot like a very popular you know hockey mask wearing celebrity we all know right on three say his name with me one two The goalie from slapshot You know they took his mask and they made it a logo What the hell were you guys thinking we're talking army of darkness here You think we're going to put a reference in there of some new line cinema guy come on pinhead wouldn't work as a logo What were you thinking about Anyway we were a great team we finished 5 4 and 1 but the tiebreaker killed us no pun intended and that was the last of the army of darkness but we did well in our first and only season. Our coach even used a binder that look like the nephronomicon that he could put our plays in It was pretty cool How's that for a childhood memory trebek

I think a cool twist would have been, that if Pamela's Soul Possessed her Dead Son's Body and it's not even really Jason at all... but Pamela in Jason's Undead Body... but they didn't go that route, I reckon, lol.

For me theres only Evil Dead 1/2 and Army the rest is just made up crap to remove Ash from the franchise buy using the 3 book nonsense (which was literally the book and 2 demons pretending to be the book) Jason goes to hell if i remember right had Freddy/necronomicon/John carpenters The Thing and went to set up a "UNIVERSE" Jason vs Freddy Jason vs Freddy vs Ash And your get out of jail card you use "magical" is how the Book can be anywhere😂

1. In the 2022 game possession is based on fear. Also some of the demon’s and deadites hits cause fear. 2. In the game it has bathroom, piano room with a recliner, bedroom with 1 bed ,kitchen and living room with a couch and fruit cellar. And a sealed off room by the back door. 3. Idk 6. 4. In the game there is only 1 set of objectives: after knowby reads the book, a team of 4 survivors must gain the lost pages and kandarian dagger then attack the dark ones with the dagger then protect the necronomicon. So yes I think it is in a time loop. 5. Idk. 6. In the game warrior ash from army of darkness changes from metal hand to chainsaw hand pretty quick so I have no idea. 7. The game is the first time in North America that aod is confirmed as part of the evil dead canon. 8. There altars that can revive a dead survivor. 9. 🤔 that ruins the whole film 10. I’m not satisfied

All right now what's up Mr movie timelines guy and listen I don't care about that guy that's been trying to correct me with your name for two light years your movie timelines guy to me and movie timelines guy is original and you know what nobody else I know it was called movie timelines guy so think of movie timelines guy as Kang living tribunal that other guy and paste pot Pete all enrolled into one With that being said I'm a former teacher as you can tell and let me tell you medicinal cannabis is good. But here's a question if there's something called evil Dead does that mean the opposite would be good alive and if so that would make for a really boring movie, the f*** am I talking about
@robbieanson1218 Жыл бұрын
I want you to know Josh that the TV show the evil dead series is a fact not canon to the films no it is not just because it says that it is does that mean that it just is. But in the Thimes pants they say that it is, but typically it’s not. Canon to the evil dead timeline but Friday the 13th does take place in the year 1980 but made it look like it was 1979. I hope that helps you out and answers that question in to the person to actually ask that out of you in the first place. But you should know the evil dead movie actually does it place the year later on no how to say 1981 I was only a year old when that movie happened. There’s a reference to that movie because of nightmare on Elm Street film taken place in 1984. And as for how the dead ate originated him as Kandarian demons the only way for them to possess somebody is it through a wound by something or pencil or getting them on her most vulnerable that is the best chance I can give you that just bite wound per se, Linda was asleep it is either you are our contact or physical contact with with something or the other idea of that being this window was asleep as I chose it in a deep trance, and if you watch evil dead rise, and compare that one with with the earlier ones, I would say that it’s not easy to possess those a strong willed you would have to be not damaged, but not broken down but weak willed, like you said and you have to be something in depression somehow, I am very much weak willed order for that position to happen. I should know I’ve seen movies that has that like the exercise or something, and it always comes down to that one little thing the Ouija board or something else but however, that area to say, is this possessions happens when you get weak and depressed and weak minded and weak willed or if you are skinny enough out of sanity, it makes it more easier for that to happen, so no, I want to my question on the remake and evil dead rise “for your next set of 20 unanswered questions And here it is, I have seen the evil dead remake is it just a retelling of the story all the evil dead film or is it just part of the prequel side of things where could it take place after evil dead rise or cut it take place in a new modern time And why would Bruce Campbell come? Bag for a cameo at the end credits? This is for your unanswered questions maybe 20 to 30 of them all depends who gives them shuffle for free take notes and use mine as a question that can be answered by you, so I answered your questions. No, it’s time for you to do your questions unanswered to be answered Video No harm no foul about the X-Men movies and I will be bugging about anymore so you said your peace about it and I am fine with it. At least you can help me out with that. So I believe that you and I are squared with that at least you won’t want to do unanswered questions video in at W fine too. I just wanted to see if you would not mind doing that again without using Deadpool being a part of it, and the reason why I know that Deadpool is not a part of the tower that’s all I want to get through to you so I am just sent the offer so on the table you don’t have to do it but you can in the future that’s what it meant but the guy said no harm no foul just leave out the pool in a towel because he’s not there but me and you is fine and we are not arguing about it just be my friend again answer me but whatever it was said was said to answer your Friday the 13th question about those they are just movies based on the Halloween character known as Jason Voorhees And he has a bugle and that was there Alburnon Matan ask Marcus‘s was in the final Friday and Pam Voorhees the mom made the deal with the devil that her son can never die. That’s why she had it there so maybe the book did not really burnt. Up and that fire in the first one. Technically it still will be there but we’re going to need more definitive answer for it. Are those movies of the evil dead movies but other than that I hope that this is a satisfact KZbin you’re the questions and the answers that you’ve been wanting because I have seen your first one of unanswered questions, but you might want to include mine in and I’m coming questions and answers and unanswered questions that can be answered in cell. Take notes of the question and maybe you can use it was love Robbie.
