10 Most Beautiful Classical Cello Pieces

Can't get enough of sonorous, eloquent, lustrous, poignant, and sensuous sound of cello!
I wanted to use a few of Yo-Yo Ma's performance but couldn't, since his videos were copyrighted. I also wanted to use a few of Jacqueline du Pré's performance but didn't find a good quality video. But I am happy with the ones I used.

Well, we're just going to have to disagree there. A cello is beautiful, but the high pitched sound of the violin brings out such an outcry of emotion that the cello cannot match. Also, you have just offended violin gang so you are banned from using the Ling Ling workouts.

Personally, I love the swan. It really gets me relaxed. As well as no.1 Predule. What a beautiful piece. Not to mention Schubert 1st movement (sonata for arpeggione and piano) ❤❤❤❤ Although these ate absolutely beautiful pieces, my favourite will always remain Adagio (Albinoni)

I love Dvorak’s and Elgar’s concertos as well. I just started learning cello after having a background in percussion, and I am enjoying it so far! Can’t wait to learn some of these melodies in the future ☺️

Beautiful Kim.............................. They are all great but I have always loved Jacqueline du Pré... sad her story.... But you made excellent choices! I am still listening as I write.... One of my brothers plays the cello but not at such a high level. He concentrated more on building and repairing organs all over the world. Truly amazing musicians on these videos.... thanks for sharing such beauty with us......................... And what an amount of viewings you have and likes.... Great that you bother with small channels like my own... a lot of people wouldn't! When I had a much bigger channel than I have now I also interacted with everybody but well, I had a fraction of your subscribers, so it was easier, I think almost 2.1K. Swan Lake has to be my favourite.... I used to play the oboe and played it! The Bach suite is amazing too!

This list is quite good but in my personal opinion the most beautiful cello piece of all is Nikolai Myaskovsky's cello concerto in C minor interpreted by Mtislav Rostropovich and the Philarmonia Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, London 1956. While there are many beautiful works for the cello, this piece, to me, is unfathomably underappreciated and underplayed. I seldom even hear the composer's name be mentioned amognst cellists and music lovers, yet his works are some of the most magnificient of the romantic era. This concerto to me is the pinnacle of Soviet romanticism, the idea of sacrificing yourself for the very music you convey, so much emotion, so much triumph, so much intensity, eroticism, power and passion. I wish it would be noticed more, as it is deserving of so much more recognition than it receives.

Great video! I struggled a lot with Kol Nidrei, a very difficult piece! I worked on a for one year and when you’re a cello student that’s quite a lot I can also recommend you the two cello sonatas of Myaskovsky, very deep pieces

Antiguamente estudiaba violin, y es un instrumento que me gusta, pero creo yo que en el pasado mi amor por el era mayor. Actualmente estudio violochelo, y ocurrio algo que no se como explicarlo, mas que decir que este instrumento me atrapó. No se si es el encanto de su sonido, o es que se parece a la voz humana. Great that you're doing well! But definitely be a little bit careful of how you word a statement like this. Confidence in your playing is wonderful and will definitely help you in the long run but bordering on arrogance will result in it being very difficult to get work post music college as people won't want to work with you. Keep up the good work! But make sure you're being sensitive about your abilities. x
