The finch is a bird species consisting of 4 subfamilies, and about 40 genera. Their habitats are evergreen forests, mountains, deserts, tropical and sub-arctic regions. Finches are 3 to 6 inches in length, and weigh around an ounce. They are very beautiful and heavenly birds, and have beautifully colored bodies. I had them for a couple of years when I was a teenager but they didn't do well, I think where I lived was too cold for them cause they're from right up the top of Australia where it's basically tropics.

I had never included numbers 3 and 5 on a top 10 Finch List. Never, and The Star Finch belong on any top 10 finch list. Definitely IMO and then No. 5 could easily be replaced with The Double-Barred Finch. Love that bird.

I love them all. I live in Northern California San Francisco, and I have the brown finch made a nest in my Fig tree and they don't like a human comes to their nest. After they give birth I keep the nest I spray with Ride Aids for bugs inside and spray with water and dry in the sun on a table. When Easter comes you can use Easter chocolate centerpiece on your table. Never throw away the nest its a bad luck. Enjoy.!. I also have the blue birds I can hear every morning singing, They all are their way and beautiful , I love to see the Australian colorful birds. And from my childhood we always had a White and yellow canary. We also have dogs, cats, and Horses.Thank you.

I think all of the finches are very cute and sweet, but if there is one choice it would be the Gouldian Finch. I have seen these little guys in the country but never new the Male does a adoreable yet funky dance to impress his intended mate. A beautiful upload

Finches, especially Gouldian Finches, have caused their own extinction. They are not good parents and usually only live seven years in or out of captivity. Any finches that are sold today have been born in captivity. They are no longer allowed to be hunted or captured. You really know nothing about these birds in the wild or in captivity. You should really do your homework before making ignorant public comments such as this!

@@janbenedictcruz7334 I have raised Gouldians for 20 years. I have had much success getting my Gouldians to breed and raise their own chicks by providing them as natural a place to breed as possible. I have only had Society finches for the last 2 years and only have them because someone gave them to me. Gouldians only need Society Finches when they won’t raise their own babies.
