Each Australian state had different ideas and all from the same World Health Organisation suggestions on how to deal with it, If that don't illustrate to you that it was Government overreach just for the power of it to you I don't know what is. Corsets: Actually corsets and more accurately: "Stays" were originally designed to give women a BELL shape, not an hourglass figure. Stays were designed to make sure a woman's torso and chest were bound FLAT, while they then wore voluminous skirts, hopes and an object called a "Bum-roll" around their hips to make their lower half seem more full. As larger hips were supposed to mean more fertile women.
