T-Mac in 2003 with the Magic in the first round when the Magic had a commanding 3 games to 1 lead in the best of 7 vs the Pistons and from there it was crash and burn for T-Mac once the Pistons top ranked defense shutdown came in full force and knowing the fact that the Magic were only a one man team with T-Mac while Grant Hill was out on long term injury and the Pistons not only won the next 3 games but most importantly taking the series.

Not really. AI is the kind of player that's tough to win with like Westbrook. His game is heavily feast or famine and it's tough to build a winning team with a guy like that. Take for instance when AI was traded for Chauncey. The Nuggets went to the conference Finals with a less talented roster (no Camby) meanwhile AI had Chauncey's exact squad in Detroit and they barely clawed their way to the playoffs in the 8th spot. That Denver squad onlybhad 2 legit title caliber teams. That was in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, they were injury plagued and ultimately were without thwir head coach in the playoffs who was dealing with throat cancer and the team had no serviceable replacementa on the staff. After that, the only team Melo was on with anything close to a title chance while he atill had his athleticism was the 2013 Knicks. And they fizzled out largely because they relied too much on players 35 or older and those guys just couldn't hold up. Sheed was huge in solidifying their fron line, but he had a season ending injury about 20 some games in, the teambstalled until they could replace him with K-Mart late in the season, then they took off again. Then, in the playoffs Kidd's age started to show and his game fell off a cliff along with JR who was probably asked to do too much as a 2nd option on offense. After that injuries took the last of Melo's elite athleticism and he was just barely a wuality offensive player and his defense suffered even worse.
@tj5180 Жыл бұрын
There's a reason why they got better with Billups. Iverson and Melo were horrible defenders also weren't ur capable 1st options plus had performances where they underperformed especially Ai vs the Lakers and spurs

That Denver team needed more supporting defensive pieces. That rockets team needed better shooters to balance the play between Mac and Yao. I blame the gms. Barkley’s career died in a rockets’ uniform. Injuries caught up to him and the food is simply great in H-Town. >_< The sixers wasted a chance to draft a healthy Webber. Good for him he finally came to the team just to steal money and bounce to the same exact team that beat the sixers in the playoffs.

Mcgrady was basically near done by the time he came to Houston. His body was failing him QUICKLY at that point. Same can be said with Yao. Neither was ever really healthy at the same time/ RIGHT TIME. The Nuggets team with AI was average. The west was just stacked. But that team was average. Why they got that record. I don’t believe Chauncey was a better fit. I believe he was taller and helped that small back court was the issue. But if you keep Iverson and get a DECENT SG and get rid of Martin… maaaaan that team would be so different
@nick2662 жыл бұрын
Chauncey was easily the better fit. He brought better playmaking and backcourt defense. The Nuggets didn't need two ball-dominate scorers.
@J-Hue2 жыл бұрын
@@nick266 Right. Chauncey brought the offensive floor generalship needed to compliment Melo's dominant acoring game. The roster had some flaws, namely size and health on the front court. That said, 2 things mainly prevented them from winnjng a title. 1 was the team moving Camby before getting Chauncey. They didn't need to, considering they traded for Chauncey and could've gone over the salary cap to get him and keot Camby. They ended up with a relatively small front court that was the lacking, shooting, rebounding, and shot blocking they needed to match teams like LA's size and overcome the injury issues they dealt with. 2 was McDyess returning to Detroit in the Chauncey trade. He was set to go to Denver too, but Detroit and him used some weird clause Detroit liked to use to allow side players in a trade to return to the team that traded them away. That move prevented them from having the discipline shooting and good health on the front line they needed. Also, Chauncey was on the decline so his ability to change games with his own offense was becoming more dodgy as time went on.
@christophersmith80732 жыл бұрын
@@J-Hue good point. The west staying constantly stacked at the time didn’t help either. In my opinion Chauncey brought a leadership mentality similar to Chris Paul. I’m surprised him and his co-star James Harden aren’t on this list
