My Father was an original special operations and with his unit of 4 went behind advancing Japanese forces in Burma 1941. Was a sole survivor -came out of the jungle with malaria and Black fever. Missing, presumed dead for 4 months. He was at the battles of Imphal and Kohima. Never talked about it. I got the whole story from an avuncular co operative of his in Special branch years later in 1963. My Father passed with a heart attack at age 69 in 1977. Extraordinary guy and amazing Dad.

incidentalist It's a powerful responsibility that requires incredible commitment. The money is great because the work is painful, incredibly demanding, and even more dangerous. Friends can be made as often as they are lost to the haze of the most brutal parts of war. Fear becomes incomprehensible after some time as one realizes that they are what is worth fearing more than anything else. The fears become less on survival and more on the reality of death in the position that is taken. I suppose if one is religious that helps a bit but it is recommended that to practice in the time that you would otherwise pray.

@Wet Mustard they would be, but Americans do what Americans does, take and innovate. Delta is really only the most elite and powerful due to the immense amount of resources backing them. Remember America spends the most on military that could be the same as 20 or 30 other countries combined and doubled. These guys have tons of access to a load of stuff. Specifically being able to call on resources when needed. They got call for fire, by artillery, air strike, infantry assault, and other support resources. They got transportation by naval, air, and land both military and non military to any where in the world at speeds that supersedes pretty much a majority of most military's. They are armed with the most efficient and/or state of the art technology, intelligence gathering, and support staff/equipment. They are trained in adaptive and specified tactics and techniques. Their general duties are still masked to the public, but the few files we have, it is usually just a few of them being attached to a larger special operations/forces unit. We can infer they must have had other operating duties that lay outside of the normal military mission's and duties. Why else would they be there.
