Rather than attempting to rank various right-wing MPs by the degree of evil (or the suffering and in some cases death) they caused, would it not be more profitable to talk about beneficial economic and social policies, and the heros who introduced great progressive policies? My first hero is Lloyd George, who introduced the State Pension. But for me, the 1945 Labour government of Clem Attlee were the real heros. They ushered in the Welfare State, the creation of the NHS, the building of Council Houses, the introduction of Lega Aid, free educaiton, and other great progressive initiatives. A Mixed Economy model was introduced, whereby utilities such as Water and Energy, Trains and Buses were owned by the state and paid for mainly via taxation. And there was a broad concensus that a Mixed Economy was a desirable thing - not among the hard right, of course, but with more moderate Tories accepting the necessity of having a reasonably educated and healthy workforce with fair accomodation for the good of the nation as a whole. And then came Thatcher and Reagan, bringing with them the Free Market Neoliberal Capitalist model which replaced the Mixed Economy. Everything that could be privatized WAS privatised. The state no longer had the responsibility to house or protect the poor. Council Houses were sold off, and no more have been built since. The UK is in desperate need of another government like that of Attlee, to bring back the Mixed Economy model, and to implement progressive policies.

So I'd suggest Jeremy Corbyn, Tony Benn, Harold MacMillan, John MacLean, Clement Atlee, Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli, Aneurin Bevan, Charles James Fox, William Wilberforce. None of them perfect, of course. They're politicians, after all. But I'd commend them all for having some principle and having the guts to stand for them - even against their own side in some cases.

Thing is John, no one trusts politicians. Where I live in Australia we are forced to vote unless we can afford to pay the fine. As an aged pensioner I can't afford the fine. So my solution to this problem is to spoil the ballot paper. So I turn up, get ticked off but scribble on the world's biggest piece of paper while contributing nothing that helps any of these cretins. I don't like them, I don't trust them and IMHO none of them deserve the taxpayer-funded salaries plus perks that they all get for the rest of their lives.

I don't like the Rwanda policy. But the truth is no one can come up with anything better. No one else has thought of a practical plan, and not just 'fluffy fairytale' words. Thinking every illegal immigrant is a selfless, hard worker who will become a valued member of society is dangerous. Because people who are dangerous take advantage of that goodwill. So you can't just let everybody in. But no one can think of a practical plan. So unless someone can think of something better, go with the Rwanda plan.
