A note for the 'they get the most EU funding' bots. We were the biggest country to join in 2004 and not the highest receiver per capita. Of course the funds helped loads. But don't forget Poland's economy was monopolised by Western companies and you gained millions of cheap workers while the value of remittances is long past not being worth losing them for Poland. The EU decided where the money goes and destroyed industry like our docks, which Western companies bought for nothing. Similarly the money is spent on contracts with Western manufacturers so the money isn't just lost from your economies. Meanwhile we're a useful transport hub and your Eastern flank against Russia (as much as I wish that weren't the case)

Labor shortages aren't necessarily a bad thing. It means the economy is doing well and it's creating competition for the available workers which drives up their salaries. It also works as a sort of "natural selection" which allows for only the most efficient companies to survive and as such improve productivity and service efficiency. Allowing more people in, even if they manage to secure a job beforehand, might make the economy grow but it does not necessarily translate into better living standards, the Draghi report hinted at that. I hope Poland learns from the mistakes of the UK, France, and Germany and doesn't compromise the future of its citizens for short-term gains.

2:23 There is a fourth, constantly overlooked reason. Ukrainian migrants. Especially the economic migrants. Just like every Eastern European country, Poland has difficulties with demographics. It needs more workforce than it has. But after 2014, when Ukraine overthrown its pro-russian government, many Ukrainians started to visit Poland in order to earn money since Ukraine had an economic crisis in that time. While most people earned money and went back to Ukraine, many decided to stay in Poland. Thus, Poland has managed to get the so much needed workforce (although the needs weren't met fully). For example, Ukrainians have created 11% of Polish GDP's growth from 2014 to 2018. Some sources say that Ukrainians brought from 0,5 to 3 percentage points of GDP's growth each year.

The inflation spiral is already present here in Poland. Minimal wage is 3261 PLN (net), and the cost of renting a small studio in a big city is similar to that. You need to pay like 2400-3000 + bills for 20 m2 nowadays. There is no longer a way for poorer people to make ends meet when it comes to moving and living in bigger cities where jobs are concentrated. And wages are not so much higher in the biggest part of our industry - you can make something like 3500-5000 PLN per month. Small companies are also suffering a lot from COVID times. Taxes and worker costs are high, and it's very hard to start a successful business here. They can't offer better financial terms because they don't have money to do so. The demographic crisis will not help either in the next few years. Of course that there are better-paying jobs like IT and R&D, but not all Poles can work in them. On top of that, the government is fighting inflation with minimal wage increases, making everything even more expansive. It maybe looks great when it comes to tables and numbers, but ask some normal people working blue collar jobs in Poland what they think about this whole situation.

People acquired for companies in Poland are mainly people from eastern countries, South America and Asia. That is, people from places where work is the most important thing, we cannot forget that these are economic immigrants and when they get to Poland they go straight to work, earn money, pay taxes and contribute to the economic growth and development of the country. And the West brings in people who do not want to integrate and work, the result of which is taking benefits and a lot of free time for antics and organized crime. :D Besides, in Poland there are no such large benefits that would allow for a life without doing work. And besides, we only care about those migrants who come to us legally with documents through the border crossing.!!!! Study there in the West.

We still have a lot of people in unproductive goverment positions and companies like Polish post office. We don't need immigration to cover work shortages but optimization of current man power.

We aren't at the level of western Europe but immigration to Poland has been skyrocketing for some time now
@oliwierbroda25752 сағат бұрын
@@ermin2248it is worth remembering though that unlike western Europe we have responsible migration policy. They take literall criminals (illegal imigrant crossing the borders), while also having very strict legal ways of migration. We have liberal migration laws but we don't take illegals. Recently we are experiencing a surge of migrants and those are all legal (except few due to Belarus situation).

A 2.9% unemployment rate is a good thing, right? Or are we heading into dangerous territory with labor shortages? Could Poland’s success turn into a struggle?

"wage price spiral" without the proper fundamentals of demand and supply is just the formula for a wage bubble that will pop on its own. so always be suspicious of governments who try to suppress wage growth minimum wage should be indexed to inflation because we give job creators perks with the expectation that real jobs cover a basic cost of living. if your business does not create enough value to pay minimum wage, then you are running a volunteer organization

I don’t know if this is the correct way to look at it, but from what I’m hearing, Poland had a particularly horrifying 20th c. and Poland is doing a particularly good job of /equalising/ with Western Europe following that, not necessarily that its policies are superior to Western European nations. I.e., it may be the case that its progress tails off when it catches up with Germany or France.

Higher gdp doesn't mean life is great for average people. Media, food and housing prices have doubled in 5 years, net salary hasn't.
