I want to know why the Conqueror brand isn't on here. The UEV 490 Extreme is bussin' and I remember some odd years ago they were truly the standard. You would have to order from Australia but still. That's even more reason to buy from them because you know you're getting a quality that can withstand the harshness that is Australia.

Looks nice, but with a bit of size and luxury.. its about 200k for a trailer? Way too expensive. Can buy a decent size camper or boat for that. Or 20 years or luxury vacation to hotels. Seems to me very overpriced just cos its “off road”.

Those are all towed trailers - with the heavier ones I would expect the truck/SUV to struggle in poor ground conditions and/or some climbs as the drive wheels' loadings are less and less proportional to the overall weight of the combination? Might be wise to have a fifth wheel/gooseneck option for the heavier campers, so at least some extra load is applied to the drive wheels?
@MogooRVs Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and that deep insight...
@bencoyle75557 ай бұрын
None of these are heavy enough or big enough to be a 5th wheel. 95% of new 5th wheelers out there are 12,000 lbs or more, and are at least 35’ long. The average newer 5th wheel is probably 38-39’ long, and weighs around 12,000-13,000 lbs. Also, 5th wheel campers are not very off road capable. Like I said, 5th wheels are often 2-3x the size of one of these travel trailers. Which means they require an ultra heavy duty suspension to sustain it all. And it’s very hard to make a suspension SUPER off road capable and be strong enough to handle a big 5th wheel. Same with the tires on 5th wheels. When do you ever see big Mud Terrain tires on a 5th wheel camper? That’s right, never. Because again, they can’t handle the heavy load of a 5th wheel and be able to be anywhere near as off road capable as one of these. Lastly and most importantly, a 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch, isn’t made for off roading like these. They don’t offer the travel and turning radius that these do. I have a 5th wheel and I’m currently shopping for an off road camper like one of these. Trust me, if there was a 5th wheel camper that was as big and as luxurious as the one I have now, and was heavy off road capable like one of these, I’d already have one. Because I can guarantee it would save me an enormous amount of time and money. Also, one more thing. These campers can be towed with 99% of newer full size SUVs (so a Tahoe or Yukon, Expedition, Sequoia, Armada, Wagoneer, or Durango). They all have max towing capacities around 9,000+ lbs. Which means any kind of newer full size pickups like a Tundra, 1500/F-150, 2500/F-250, and 3500/F-350 can all tow one of these without breaking a sweat. However a mid size truck or SUV like a Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma, Highlander, 4Runner, Traverse, Grand Cherokee, Explorer or Ranger would be pushing it. Just Remember, ALWAYS check the owners Manual or driver side door jamb sticker for the exact max towing capacity and GCWR of your specific vehicle. And always try to leave a 2-3 thousand pounds under your max towing capacity for breathing room, just in case. Trust me, you don’t want to find out what can happen if you push your vehicles towing capabilities. My very close friend and brother in arms paid for that mistake with his life at just 23 years old.

@@bencoyle7555 You would be making an exellent point with some of the OTT American "campers" that are basically luxury mobile homes, except you missed the point - those are FAR from what I was thinking off. Possibly because I used the generic "5th wheel", that many seem to associate with plate rather than goose-neck. You are apparently unaware that there are many manufacturers of specialist "off-road" campers that are made for "5th wheel" applications - while most are ball and/or pintle hitch, there are commercial and custom "goose-neck" trailers available. Even then, the biggest will usually be in the 8-10 000lb range, with some much lighter. Hmmm, I guess if you had the budget, and the "roads", you could do a major custom build on a military truck and trailor that used a plate, or a large heavy industry support vehicle?
@onefastcyclist8 ай бұрын
The outstanding MDC XT16HR east/west should be included. Trailers get better gas mileage with a smooth undercarriage. The Tribe 500 is clever but has their boxy holding tanks hanging down below the frame. Other manufactures fabricate thin tanks that fit between frame rails NO one wants to hit their black tank on the trail.
