Man I hear you on Nier Automata. When I first got it I was trying to figure out how to play it since it was my first Nier game ever, and I kept dying and thinking I was doing something horribly wrong and missing something crucial. Like I kept thinking there's no way I have to start all over again I must not know how to save, etc. I actually shelved it and stopped playing it for like a year until giving it another shot not too long ago. They fucked up so hard at that intro.

@@The_Cadaver EVERY fallout game has had your backstory premade to some extent. FO1, you came from a vault. You've been there your entire life, and you were chosen to leave it. FO2, same thing. You came from Arroyo. NO questions asked, that is your background. Maybe what you DID in Arroyo was up to your interpretation, but the fact is, THAT is your background. You were chosen to leave to find the GECK, you are a tribal, and you literally just passed the temple of trials--and you are the ancestor of the original vault dweller. FO3, you are James' son. Also from a vault, even though you were born outside it. Your parents were working on project purity. Again, no getting to choose your background here either. FONV, you were a courrier who caused a catastrophe earlier in your travels. you were designated to carry a platinum chip. While there is more freedom here, fact is your backstory, to some extent, IS prewritten. So, as you can see, the same thing can be said of ANY Fallout game. 4 just went a bit more all in on it than the others did, giving you a specific child, a spouse, and a job--and the job thing wasn't even unique to FO4, because New Vegas did that first making the player a courrier. So I was a huge fan of Fallout 2, and put waaaay too many hours into it. I still fire it up now and then for nostalgia value. It's interesting that the temple in Arroyo is seen as a "tutorial / opening level" section. XD We never saw it as that back in the day, it was more of a way to test out your character build. So much so, that a high charisma character could just talk his way out of doing the trials entirely, a stealthy character could just sneak past everything, there were secrets and shortcuts and so many ways of approaching (or avoiding) the trials depending on your build, without giving away the surprises in store in the main game like being a tribal with a spear and running into folks with laser weapons and power amour, and going "wtf!?" because you were expecting to come across folks like yourself. (You're pretty much treated like crap by everyone who recognizes you as a "f**king tribal." You weren't ever really "forced" to do the trials, and even if you couldn't get out of it there was a path you could run to the exit without having to engage with much of anything. I always saw it as more of a "is this build going to cope" test. If you couldn't get through the trials with your build, you weren't going to survive a day in the wastes. Also, it was probably the shortest "tutorial" or "intro" section out of everything you've listed here, so it really wasn't nearly as tedious as you're making out. :p And to answer your question: If I recall correctly the tribe you belong to was descended from the original vault from the first game. (Which happened about 80 years prior to the sequel.) They lost their vault technologies (like their GECK and water chips), hence why they reverted back to tribal living. The temple isn't "ancient", the trials were built as a brutal test for the warriors and "Chosen Ones" of the tribe before they went out into the wastelands, which goes back to what I was saying above about it not actually being a tutorial or opening level.

I was living in the dorms at Texas A&M (mentioned for size info) and I had a slot on my memory card with a save of Driver immediately after beating the tutorial driving test that I let others around the dorm copy over so that they could play the game since few of us could get past it at the time. Felt so cool back then for a few weeks, lol.

GAMERANX, this game has a very tedious intro too The game its called Kingdom Come Deliverance, it's a role game about The Medieval Age, and the game starts like at a village and you have to do several missions to get to the reall game, the worst thing is that the game has a really big map, and the game doesnt give you a horse till 15% on the story. So you have to travel with your bare feet till the game gives you a free horse
@AnthraxOfDoom4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the whole beginning of Kingdom Come is what made the game gather dust in my steam library at first. The intro is like 2 hours long until you are able to do what you want, and even then a lot of the stuff that you need to really enjoy the game is "locked" behind the firsts main missions. Still an amazing game though.
@kevincampos25874 жыл бұрын
@@AnthraxOfDoom yes it's a great game ngl, is one of the best role games I've played but God dam bro the intro, and the hole "tutorial" is long and boring asf, also you have to travel a lot with your bare feet before getting the first horse (well you can steal one but that makes you a bad person and bla bla bla). But in the end is a great game
@p-y82104 жыл бұрын
I don't think that one fits as the whole game is slow. And you can fast travel if you want the whole point of the game is to immerse you into medieval peasant life.

Agreed. Guild Wars 1 went a similar route, and it really hit different because of it, you were really watching the end of the world play out. Could they have stood to make more of the intro interactions optional so that returning players could zoom through it and get to the meat and potatoes, while new players can take their time exploring and getting to know the world as it (was)? Sure, but the reason for it existing is solid.

Was very much expecting both prologs for kotor. Started to get nervous they wouldn't show as we got to the top 3. They're very much deserving of the number 1 spot when considering multiple play throughs. It had a great amount of content, but very much would have like some degree of proportionality to the remainder of the game. Either as extensions of everything else, or as the prologs condensed.

SKYRIM INTRO TIPS: -To avoid the intro cutscene, start it up and make a save as you exit the cart. You can reload this save instead of starting a new character as its after the cart ride but before the character creation. -You can also run right through helgen upto the keep. Once you go up the first towers stairs, alduin will break the wall. After he goes you can run straight to the keep No waiting for ulfric to talk or for the guy in the street and the imperial soldier to die.

I was surprised to see KOTOR on this list, not to mention on the top of the list, I do think KOTOR2's opening is tedious though, but didn't thought it would made no1 either. I think KOTOR's opening/tutorial level is only limited to the Endar Spire space ship part, once your party land on Taris, you can actually explore around the city freely. You can do the main quest, raid some apartments, or go to the arena. To be honest, there's not really that much stuff to do on Taris, and it's true that the rest of the game are not accessible at this point, but there's still some level of freedom, and I think Taris is more like the first chapter of KOTOR. KOTOR2's opening however, is a different story. First you get a tutorial level on the Ebon Hawk (your ship), which I think is actually more interesting than KOTOR's Endar Spire tutorial, and you can even skip it if you don't want the tutorial, cool! However, the game continues on the Peragus mining station, which is a big level (not as big as Taris though) and you have to traverse the station in a linear way, even while the station's structure is non linear at all. Since you're doing the same things in the same order every playthrough, it start to get boring on the second time, there's even a part where you have to put on EVA gear, slowly walk to the other side of the station, just to play a cutscene. Did I mention the optional tutorial level at the beginning? well the game is still giving the player pieces of tutorials on Peragus station, so what's the point? After you're finally done with Peragus station, you'll get to Telos station, which is kind of like Taris from KOTOR, but much smaller and much lesser places to explore, you can't leave because your space ship is stolen. After choosing between helping some eco friendly aliens or working for a greedy corp, you'll get to leave Telos station and go to the north pole to get your space ship back, so you can travel the galaxy as your will, but before reaching your ship, your shuttle got shot down, so you'll have to fight your way through the surface to get to another shuttle, which got shot down again, luckly this time you crash right at the north pole where your ship is located, go talk to some exile jedi and you're finally free to choose your next destination. KOTOR2's opening (or maybe it should count as the first chapter of the game since how long it is) is so much more tedious than KOTOR's Taris, though they are both unskippable, KOTOR gives the player much more freedom to run around, and not all missions are necessary to progress the main story. KOTOR2 on the other hand, have long linear levels, minimal choices, you feel like doing the same things in the same order and getting the same loot for hours in every playthrough, the only difference is the character you build. To be clear, KOTOR's Taris level isn't amazing, but I still find it somehow enjoyable, and I definitely prefer Taris more than KOTOR2.

Surprised Shadow of War isn't in the list. Considering it's a sequel it's fucking insane there is probably 10 hours of playtime on the harder difficulties and multiple jumps between regions until you get the the real game of taking control of the orc captains and warbosses... It sure feels like an intro especially when also considering there are popup tips and tricks every 2 minutes... [Hold Shift to sprint] Yes thank you game.... I've been playing for 20 hours i sure as hell haven't been walking all that time...
