I noticed a glaring omission from this list: Holy Diver, a Japan exclusive NES game from 1989. It was essentially the result of combining Mega Man and Castlevania and cranking the difficulty up to fucking 11. In fact, some say that it was because of how hard this game was that it never made it out of Japan.

only reason they rank the NES. SNES and SEGA games so low is due to savestates and rewinds. if they were to play it without cheating they wouldnt make it halfway into any of the NES games on this list. i have beaten celeste C stages easy. ninja gaiden on master ninja. level 1 runs of all the dark souls games. platinum in super meat boy. and even i cant beat the real hard NES games like battletoads without cheating.

@@brodeymanhennessey2604 Nioh is considerably faster paced and more punishing than dark souls. Magic makes both games much easier. If you use sloth in Nioh it basically makes every boss a free kill, but the levels still make the game way harder.

Well, if you count official community levels in Geometry Dash (they are given a rating by the game creator himself), it's probably one of, or the hardest game available, considering the best players sometimes spend years and hundreds/thousands of hours just to beat one level, which is funny when you realize you just need one button to beat it.

rhythm games like geometry dash, osu! (all gamemodes), quaver, adofai, and basically almost any other rhythm game out there has an infinite skill cap, so it's pretty unfair to group them with a lot of the other games on here.

God of War 4: This is where enemies can appear anywhere. Don’t use the wrong attack and don’t forget about Atreus. 29. Stick War 2: Fighting an army with an army. The enemies can build up so fast that you will go through hell. 28. Contra Hard Corps: While you only take one damage per hit, you are advised to stock up on lives. 27. Halo 2: The enemy AI tracks your weak spot. Be careful. 26. Mega Man Zero: The one mega man game with both platforming and combat. You will struggle a lot to stay alive. 25. The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Genesis Version: This game is not afraid to make it brutal to beat a stage. Every stage has a very steep learning curve. It’s not higher because it’s a short game. 24. Castlevania Bloodlines: Instead of just hitting you directly, some areas will slowly drain your HP. 23. So if you tell me that Sekiro is easier than Battletoads, played in 1995 on a Sega console, with cheap plastic controlers (that you usually had to "repair" every couple of weeks) that would gave you nightmares in the Ball Roll level, where you needed perfect timing so you won't lose speed and momentum, the game that had limited number of lives, without ANY save option at any time during the game, where basically each time you want to pass the above mention level or just wanted to beat the game you always had to start from level 1, you must be joking, sir! Good to see some love for "Returnal" - which I almost quit before even seeing the first boss. Then I had a breakthrough and managed to get through 3 bioms and two bosses in one go even though I fought those bosses the first time (Nemesis and Hyperion). Now I got the platinum. Also telling that the "Sekiro" segment only says something about stealth but nothing about parrying which makes me doubt WatchMojo even played it.🤔🤔

The original DMC 3 had a trick to it. You could keep going back and replaying the first two levels as many times as you wanted, farm red orbs, and upgrade your weapons before proceeding with the game. It was much easier that way.

Geometry dash’s hardest level (Tidal Wave) has 200 frame perfects (clicks that can only be done in one frame in certain amounts of fps like 60,240,360) and there are lots of easier levels that took YEARS and 250.000+ attemtsto complete for certain pro players like Silent Clubstep, (current top 4) wich took 7 years to be completed for the first time, so a level like that is even harder than many of the games on the list. So imo GD is at least the hardest game ever.

Jump King should probably have made that list as well, possibly also the NES Nightmare on Elm Street. I still can't believe that my mom actually beat Zelda 2 back in the 1990s. It took her months but she finally beat Dark Link in 1996 I wanna say, something even I haven't been able to do.

Battletoads, yup. The Turbo Tunnel, however, isn't that tough. Used to have the exact spot for the warp on that stage memorized. Heck, I had an easy time with Surf City. I only started having real trouble at Karnath's Lair and onwards. Never made it past Intruder Excluder (Level 8) even with warps, though.

Nah man. Super Mario Maker. I can understand that a community driven experience didn’t make this list, but super Mario Maker makes all of these look like a joke. Sekiro has nothing on PangeaPanga 😂 Before you call me out with whatever game you think is the hardest, just know, the more difficult levels in SMM1/2 can easily take professional players 50 hours to beat. 50 Freaking hours to beat a level that’s 2 minutes long. SMM1 only just very recently got “completed” (all legitimately uploaded levels have been cleared) and it took an entire community of players dedicating literally thousands of hours cooperatively to beat the higher tiers of those levels. Again, I get why it didn’t make this list, but it’s my honorable mention 😂

It also depends on which version you played. As much as people claim the NES & later versions are hard obviously never played the original version (pre-NES) on the PC. A friend of mine got an English dub off the original Russian version in the late 90s.

I used to think CupHead was the hardest game IVE ever played but after the DLC came out I realized maybe Enter The Gungeon is actually the hardest game I’ve ever played because of the amount of attempts I’ve made, I’ll let you guess how many. At least I actually enjoy it unlike Friggin CupHead

I've watched people play "Geometry Dash" and "Celeste" for a little bit. They seem like great games! I've also heard about "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" from 1989. I didn't know all the games on this list were hard. There are some I've never even heard of.

I would put the first Phantasy Star on the list because of all the secret passages. I remember people spending months making maps of the secret passages. I beat Mike Tyson Punch Out when I was younger. Oddly I used to be very good at video games, I’m not near as good at them as I used to be. Prolly due to my lack of patience I have now

number 25, yep THAT was a hard one...i could never pass the 3rd stage. 23# Zelda II was hard but fun, i had been trying to beat it since i was 12 & finally did when i was 33 Battle toads. YES could NEVER BEAT THE TURBO TUNNEL, one of my 1ft rage quits

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was only REALLY hard before learning as a kid that you can switch Turtles at any time. as for Zelda II, that has slowly grown into a cult classic, one that has had a ton of Rom Hacks for it, almost as many as the Original Zelda.
