@@ranjanandmicmicnepalphilip7696 hi! you definitely do not want to put off the applications any longer if you can avoid that! Many programs have already sent out interview requests for the season. Sometimes I hear that people will put off their submission because they are waiting for an additional LoR. I always say you can add that on later if you have a complete application without that. Best of luck!!

Hi Thanks for the video! Im applying for the match and been thinking of psychiatry a lot for the past 2 years tbh but I have heard that the inpatient rotations can be a little dangerous or so I’m not really sure though any insight on that would be lovely. Thank you!

hi! it really depends on the program you go to but in general that is one of the first lectures I would give to anyone new on the unit as well as the medical students you work with. It is a falsehood that people who struggle with mental illness are more likely to harm others, they are more likely to harm themselves however agitation is a potentially real and scary scenario in any setting. training on how to de-escalate situations and how to prevent any injuries is a big priority in most hospitals

I know my question may be a bit off topic, but I hope you can please help me with an answer. I have a phobia, I'm trying to cope with it the best I know how. Every time I hear am airplane fly by, the noise triggers me to have mental breakdown. I get extremely scared as if it will crash, and there's this sense of panic that I can't control. It's torture, especially at night. Most people would say, oh it's a fear of flying, or a fear of heights. I'm not afraid kf heights, (I could easily get on a Rollercoaster or ferris wheel) I'm not afraid of flying (even though I've never been on a plane before). I'm afraid of the plane crashing where I am. And it's much worse with jets I would involuntarily, try and hide for cover & have a panic attack. Note: since I was a kid, in school, we would always have to watch 9-11 videos and have to do a report on. & there was even a plane that crashed in city knocking out the power causing a huge blackout for about a week and a half. (Thatadee more afraid of planes/jets) But it's weird it's ALWAYS the sound that triggers me. The louder (and lower) the plane or jet is, the worse the panic attack is. -p.s when I was a kid, I also had sensory issues & couldn't stand loud noises, can this be linked to that? What are your thoughts on this?

hi aria! i'm so sorry for what you're going through! because everyone deserves a thorough evaluation, i highly recommend you going to your primary doctor and finding a psychiatrist and therapist to share this with!

Hi Jackie, I’m interested in becoming a psychiatrist. I’m a bit worried about how I’ll juggle with going through school and work, money specifically. What tips do you have for money and time management when you were a student?
@DoktoraJackie2 жыл бұрын
hi! Thank you for your question. I agree with you! The financial commitment is huge. I do hope to do finance videos here in the future although it is quite a personal and triggering topic for many. Most students have loans and are part of the PSLF program or decide to pay it off after they graduate residency/fellowship. Creating a budget and sticking to it is really the key. It sounds so simple but it's so difficult when money comes with convenience especially when your priority is studying all the time. It is a tremendous investment that I believe has been worth it for myself. It is the ultimate delayed gratification test though!

Hey Dr. Jackie, I'm a US Caribbean student (MS2), with essentially non-existant research opportunities, support, etc. I've joined the APA back in February 2022 to show commitment to the specialty early on. Do you have any suggestions or routes I can take to make me competitive? I'm a US Army Infantry Veteran, as well as, a former Psychiatric RN with over 2000 hours experience in direct psychiatric patient care in a psychiatric ED. Thank you,
@DoktoraJackie2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I think psychiatry will very much value your hands on experience!! I would focus on that! At the same time, attending the conferences is a great step as well. The APA in general is very supportive of medical students/trainees submitting posters to present and it could be a good opportunity once you find an attending to submit with during your clinical rotations!

Hi Jennie!! insomnia is so tough! I recommend going to speak to your primary doctor about this because there might be many reasons for insomnia so that would guide what treatment you should get
