I am sure that this skill can be learned, however, since childhood I have been able to play by ear. I hear a song and I can play it. I have no idea why, but I can. My piano teacher couldn’t do it. She could play anything from sheet music but no idea without it. It was a big problem when I was learning to read music. Whenever I read the note wrong I knew how to correct it in my mind. I wish someone could explain it.
