Hi Carole! Greetings from across the pond. The patterns you choose always suit you so well. I'm only 1/2 inch taller than you. I also struggle with not wanting to look or dress dumpy or as I like to say, frumpy. So many popular patterns have such voluminous amounts of fabric or oversized silhouettes. These do not suit our height. Heavy fabrics are also not our best friends. But I love a good skirt. I have found, for me, the lighter the fabric, the more flattering a skirt will be. Your 'go to' skirt pattern is cute and would look fab in a viscose, challis, or viscose-cotton. Just a thought - to make you rethink skirts for yourself. Thanks for your videos!
@socarole667 ай бұрын
Funny you should say across the pond as right now I am on holiday in Florida 🤣. Your concept about lighter weight fabrics for skirts is a really interesting one, I'm going to have to give that a try I think. As you say, we just can't wear voluminous stuff with many gathers etc. Thanks so much for the suggestion and also for watching and taking the time to comment. 🧵😊

Very fun to see your clothing style and makes. 🥰 I have most of those patterns and hope to make several of them within the next year or so, post-move. Will you be doing Top 10 Big 4 patterns video also? Hope you are having/have had a very fun trip to Orlando with your family. Will you be doing a fabric and pattern haul soon? Hoping that you, Trish and Jen made some video clips and took lots of photos to post! 😃 Hugs to you! Dori

I really enjoyed the New Look pattern roundup. I haven’t got many of those, and I’m very tempted by the ‘magic dress’! And the final trousers. I’d love to see the Simplicity roundup as I’ve got lots of those too and it’s so instructive to see actual garments made from the patterns. I sew pretty much exclusively from Big 4 as I can’t manage the printing and taping of indies and I find a lot of them replicate a Big 4 anyway. One of my tnt tops is the New Look knit top you showed, such a workhorse! Anyway thanks again for all the videos- I’m really enjoying them. Trish S

Thanks so much Viv 💕. It's so odd about those pockets, maybe they are just too large for the dress or maybe we should make them in a lining fabric with perhaps just an inch of dress fabric at the top in case they are visible. Great New Look patterns! You’ve made some great garments using the patterns. I also love to sew with them and have many of them in my pattern collection. They are simple, classic yet stylish. Plus they seem to fit pretty will without a whole lot of adjustments. The only downfall of them as they aren’t all that size inclusive. Luckily, I can manage to fit into them at the top of the range, but I’m sure that is disappointing for many sewists.
@socarole663 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and your comment. As you quite rightly say, New Look are simple and stylish. I will also agree with you about not being size inclusive but for the other end of the spectrum. I used to be a lot slimmer and most of the patterns start at a 10 which was too big for me at the time, only a few started from 8 so I used to struggle a lot. That is not a problem anymore but I do feel sorry for the very small women whom I assume have to sew children's patterns. As they say... You can't please all of the people, all of the time! 🤣. Thanks Carole. I have just purchased the Lutterloh system (well ordered yesterday at a bargain price so it’ll take a few weeks to arrive). I’ve also recently done a bodice and trouser block so I’m hoping it’s all going to work well with Lutterloh. I did say to my hubby that there are not too many vlogs for using the system and he suggested that I do my own (that is soooo not going to happen, he has a KZbin channel and I see the amount of work and time it takes, also not sure it’s my thing). Anyway are you likely to do any more of the Lutterloh patterns vlogs. Go one Carole. Pleeeease 🤞🏻😃☺️

Hi Ann, I keep saying to my husband I MUST do another Lutterloh vlog and I was going to but then got too busy sewing for everyone for our holiday! This month for sure I will and yes it is a lot of work to make videos but I'm sure your husband will agree it is very worthwhile and rewarding 🥰. Great job picking up a bargain system, sounds like you have the tools to help you make it work already. I was such a novice in my first videos 🤣. Thanks for watching 😊🧵

Great video! New Look sale in U.S. 99.cents so bought quite a few . Seeing them sewn up most helpful. Any other N.L. patterns you’ve done up? Thanks again.S.

Hi there, you are so lucky to have picked up some of those bargain New Looks. I missed the sale by a week from my trip to the US 🤣. I do however have most of the New Looks and have made most of them up. Anything in particular you wanted to make but weren't sure and I'll see if I did a video on them. 🧵😊

Oh I love a simple pattern! I'm sure lots of those are still out there but can I say, you really aren't a beginner 🥰. Thanks so much for watching and again, so great to see you last week xx

Sometimes it's the pattern directions that stump me! I'm not always knowledgeable enough to know a "work-around" either. And I admit, I'm not one who feels confident enough to call or contact the pattern company to ask questions about a pattern direction.. That's another reason for my signing up for the Basic Sewing 4 classes at the Sewing Studio that will keep me busy over the next 3 months. I'm on the hunt for a top and slacks pattern that I can find easy enough to whip out in no time! . It's another beautiful day in central Florida!! Looks like the possibility for a bit of rain on Wednesday though. Just a little FYI...

@@DebsWay thanks for the heads up on the weather for Weds! Luckily that is my day with Jen and Trish so I won't worry 🤣. I'll warn the others though. I actually think you know way more than me about sewing and fitting, I tend to put up with issues and you've done classes, I haven't since school 🤣 xxx

Hi Carole, I like New Look patterns and they fit me well also. I don’t sew much knits and NL 6217 is my basic “woven T-shirt” go-to pattern. I also make the sleeveless top on NL6517 often. I will try the pants now. But maybe I have already when I took a fitting class. I struggle with fitting pants…I really don’t know why. I can easily find RTW that fit me great so I’ve given up on making pants. It would be fun to have different colors though.
@socarole667 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. New look seem to fit me well too, sorry to hear you have issues with pants fitting. Sometimes I find the back pulls down a little low but most of them are ok and I like high waisted. How weird that you don't have a problem with RTW, can you copy the crotch length or something to recreate them on a paper pattern? Or maybe trace off a pair? I've never made the sleeveless 6517 top, maybe I should. Thanks again 🧵😊

Thank you.. I would love to see your patterns and makes.. I'm in Canada and Simplicity and New look is no longer sold here??? however I have a lot in my stash from way back when.. I use to say my order of companies 1st Vogue, New look, Butterick( they started to go dumpy) ,Simplicity and finally McCall. Now indie vogue and McCall ..
@socarole667 ай бұрын
I cannot believe you can't get those patterns in Canada, I do hope that isn't a sign of things to come for us all? I haven't sewn hardly any Vogue as I am scared they will be tricky, they do have that reputation! Butterick I used to think of like that as well but either I am getting older or their patterns are improving as I now like them😂 I am always happy to try any pattern company to be honest, if the style suits me and I can get the physical copy I will go for it but New Look is my favourite overall. Thanks so much for watching and your comment 😊🧵

I'm enjoying your channel. I've made I think a dozen 6217 for my daughter. She keeps requesting them because they're so easy to wear for her work. I just sewed up a simplicity 2188 and it's cute. I had to sew an xxs for her but really she would normally in other pattern companies, take a small or maybe XS. Do you sew exclusively Big 4/5? How far do you usually size down?
@socarole667 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and your kind comments. I had to look up 2188 and wow, that is a great pattern such a shame it is out of print now but I'll keep my eye out for that one. That is funny you have to size down so much for your daughter, with the Big 4 I end up making up more or less my store bought size, some patterns I have to change especially if the range is in XS, S, M etc rather than 8,10,12. Now with some Indies which I do use every now and again I always end up having to size down. I recently made some style arc patterns in a much smaller size, 2 sizes down I think. Finished garment measurements and checking the pattern pieces themselves is the only sure way isn't it! Thanks for watching and your comment 🧵😊
@jankerslake58136 ай бұрын
Carole, you mentioned NL6217. Have you made the trousers from that pattern? I’m looking for a zipped trouser pattern with a straight leg. So many patterns seem to be wide leg now and although I’ve made a pair they really don’t suit me! I look like a clown! 🤣🤣. Thanks a lot. 🤗
@socarole666 ай бұрын
8957. Hi there, thanks for your comment. I haven't made 6217 trousers actually, it's funny as sometimes I'm so focused on the tops I don't see there is a trouser pattern included! For a straighter leg zip trouser pattern I tend to use Simplicity 8957. It is high waisted though so you may need to check the rise but I've used it a lot. The legs are straight not slim as they advertise. The other thing is the pockets can stick out but I have made them by putting just front pockets on. I used them for my cargo trousers back in the summer. I have to be careful with wide leg as well being short as I don't want to get signed up by a circus either 🤣. Have a great weekend and hope that helps 🧵😊

I instantly purchased the skirt pattern 6579 from ebay after watching your video and it arrived today.😂 I wondered if you make the size based on your measurements or size down as 4 1/2 inches of ease seems a bit too much for me? 😊
@socarole667 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and I'm excited that you have already got your pattern. I have to say I'm not good at checking finished garment measurements and just tend to plow on with my size. . I made a size 10 which i always make. The waist always fits well and I haven't had an issue being oversized. It is slightly A lined though which maybe where the ease around the hips is coming in. Better to sew large then take it in rather than too small 😅. Good luck 🧵😊
