Princess Peach nailed it for their target audience - Young girls. This was my daughter's favourite game of the year. She's 8 yrs old. It was one of the first games she was able to be independent on. It gave her alot of joy. She lost her mind when she became a mermaid. That said, her biggest comment was why was there no daisy or rosalina as they are peach's bestfriends. I do agree though peach deserves a "odyssey" type game that include all the mario girlies.

My big regret is graveyard keeper. It looked quirky and fun but it wasn't AT ALL accesible to me with memory issues. Having hints and major mechanics put into single lines of npc dialog that don't repeat and don't get recorded is criminal. Even if I didn't struggle with my memory, I feel like that's an awful feature for adults who might pick up the game and then put it back down for a few weeks. It really would not have been hard to include a more detailed journal, that's a standard feature in the majority of modern games. I'm a little salty because that oversight made the whole game unplayable.
@Anna-dd4rhАй бұрын
So sorry that was your experience! I hate when games just assume you’ll remember every tiny line of dialogue. Even if it’s something small like a loved gift for an NPC, that’s valuable information to have *recorded* in the game. And as you pointed out, it’s not that hard of a feature to add but makes a world of difference to folks with memory disabilities and time-crunched adults. Sometimes it feels like 90% of games are still made exclusively for able-bodied teen boys who can play the same games for days straight. Nothing against those gamers, but they’re just a fraction of the gaming market today!

@gurvmlk19 күн бұрын
That's what screen capturing is for. Whenever I'm playing a game on the Switch, and it presents me with seemingly important information, especially if its vital tutorial information that I'm worried might slip my mind later, I take a snapshot of the screen to store in the console's album. That way, if I need a refresher on something, I'll open up the album, and scroll through to find what I need. Then, once I've beaten the game, and no longer need that information, I'll go through the album and delete those screenshots. And it doesn't just have to be information, either. If I'm playing an RPG for example, and I spot something that looks like a secret I'll need to return to grab once I have an ability unlocked later in the game, I'll take a snapshot so that I can better remember exactly where that secret was located. Even if I also write the information down in physical notes, I'll take the snapshot as well for a visual reminder. That way, it's not just, "Return to forest once I can bypass logs." I'll have a picture to remind me exactly where that log was located in the forest.

@@Zodia195 Rune Factory 4 was my first and it was the perfect lil handheld to play while watching TV, and I think the pacing was better just by virtue of better map layout and it being top-down rather than 3D, making tasks way more straightforward and quick. The main thing that compelled me to try 5 was that you can have queer romances, but for whatever reason, the characters made into 3D really emphasises just how childish they look...I think the series can work in 3D in the new direction they're taking for the next one, but as it stands right now, it was as much better system/aesthetic in 2D

Very disagree with Brothership and Princess Peach Showtime. I think I made my points on the Princess Peach game before so basically, while I see your criticisms, I disagree. I thought the game had a lot of charm. The gameplay was fine for me and the short game time doesn't bother me because I love to replay games just because. But I get it, I can see how it could be disappointing! As for Brothership, I haven't played it myself yet however I do know sone problems people have. Like how odd it is to press A before you attack with Luigi for instance. But as far as multiplayer goes, the problem comes more when traversing the map and the moves in battle. So if one of you is having issues, it's going to make the experience difficult. A turn based RPG is better off as single player in my opinion. Now as far as other RPGs in Mario are, that's more up to preference. Some may prefer Paper Mario, others may prefer Mario and Luigi. Now I like both but honestly, I think I prefer Mario and Luigi so Brothership would probably be better for me. However, I can still see where you are coming from because we all have our opinions. And I respect your opinion. I just disagree Mario wise is all! If I had to pick a game I was uncertain of, mine is tERRORbane. I feel like more could have been done with the concept. And also, I thought my choices in earlier acts would changee things later on so that was disappointing for me. And I despise the in-game developer. I know he was railroading the name choice to be funny and all, but all that scene did was tick me off. It's a good game but difficult to go back to for me.

On the Apico subreddit, the Apico dev said the following about releasing Apico onto the Switch: "I don’t actually own a Switch DevKit at the moment (I only managed to finally get approved and order one yesterday!), so the current workflow for Switch is I make a lot of changes semi-blind (I can emulate the frame rate, resolution, and handheld mode but ultimately I can’t emulate the actual hardware specs or Switch-specific methods) then pass it onto Whitethorn (publisher) to build and send me any logs. This obviously doesn’t lend itself well to being easy to manage and means I can’t directly run the profiler live myself to see if theres any specific pain points that could be better for the Switch specifically." I think this is why so many Switch ports are questionable. The devs make them on a purely theoretical basis, most likely under pressure of the publisher. Personally I'd prefer they just didn't release a Switch port at all in that case, but it's clear some publishers aim to get money from Switch players while providing us with a subpar product. They wouldn't even provide this specific dev a proper Switch emulator until after the game had already been released onto the Switch.

I looked forward to this game so much and was so incredibly excited about it, but the amount of bugs within the game and how long updates took to come up on Switch after being put on PC irritated me so much. Sorry to hear about Sun Haven. It being a pixel game, I got it on the PC and it's great! Not my fav Farm sim (that right still belongs to Stardew), but it was worth waiting for since I got last Christmas. I hope those bugs get fixed so you can enjoy it. One of your colleagues, Josh, did his yearly tier list of new Farm Sims this year and he put Orange town on the lowest rank, so you're not alone. Now as for my list of Switch games I regret buying, I am going to apologize ahead of time because one of those games is one you love, so I am very sorry! -Wylde Flowers- I am SOO sorry, my biggest reason for giving this game a try was because of your review since I had been on the fence due to the art style. Story and chars were great, but I just ended up dropping it because I had lost interest. Art was charming yes, but it still didn't 100% appeal to me and I just didn't find myself connecting with the townsfolk as much. But as usual, biggest factor was the gameplay, I just found it tedious. It's a good game, I just couldn't connect. Sorry Eeowna. - Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE- This for me was the biggest disappointment since I am a big fan of the creator of this game since I am a huge Danganronpa fan. Problem was as the story progressed, I started not enjoying the mysteries and dungeons more. I couldn't help but compare the game to DR 1 since it was a new franchise (the ending hinted at more games). - Rune Factory 5- Biggest problem I had with this game was the pacing, it was such a slog, plus the farming aspect felt too complicated. I really want to pick up this game, but the gameplay is severely lacking, which hurts since I loved the chars and story. I keep saying I am going to try and pick it back up again, but I haven't. I do want to give this franchise one more try though. We'll see.

While I expected Mario & Luigi to be singleplayer, even as someone who’s never played this series before, I do agree that it is a bit odd they don’t give you the option to play it co-op. Man the Sun Haven port just stings. I wouldn’t mind it not being up to date to the PC version if it wasn’t lied about and it meant the game ran smoothly. I get the Switch isn’t the most powerful system but it is possible to make a great port. Look at The Witcher 3 and Dave the Diver. A lot of it just comes from devs thinking they can slap their games on the Switch and make bank with little to no work (see Mortal Combat 1)

Okay after seeing this video and leaving a couple comments I'll leave this final one in. To the people who have yet to buy any game they actually want or want to try don't let review videos like this one or others make your final decision, it's okay to get feedback but don't let them make decisions for you, it's one thing to review and educate people on something then telling people not to buy something because you didn't like it, let people experience and judge for themselves.

I’m a hardcore 1-on-1 Smash Ultimate player, so I get a lot of mileage out of playing it online with others and not having the couch play. Princess Peach Showtime though, I totally agree…it’s a rare miss for Nintendo. Even though the game was short, the levels were so slow and a complete chore to play despite having little to no challenge. I know the audience is for young girls, but as you said, this was Peach’s shining moment, and she deserved so much more! She has the capacity for a much more complete game like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which is adorable and charming AND challenging and exciting at the same time! That game had so much to do and see and it never felt boring to play.

Personally I loved Princess Peach Showtime. It was nice to see her in the spotlight as the protagonist again. It may not be the collectables and outfits gave me enough reason to go back and replay levels. I haven't had the chance to play Mario and Luigi Brothership yet but I think it not being a co-op game is due to the previous games being the same way. It would be cool to have the option for co-op but maybe the developers didn't want to change the formula too much. I'm glad its a single player game over a multiplayer game though. It would kinda suck if you could only progress through the game with another person. I don't really have anyone to play games with at home so I usually stick with single player games.

I'm so glad you talked about Orange Season! It looked interesting but it was very expensive so I was hoping you to cover it first 😅 I will skip it and Sun Haven too. I still want to play it but seeing how bad the switch port is I'll just get it on steam! 😊 I don't regret buying any pokémon game, because I will buy them all because I just love pokémon. But Scarlet & Violet was the worst game ever, I hated playing it. I liked seeing all the new pokémons, catching them, battling them and the open world. Even the story was actually decent. I just hated playing it, like I wanted it to end. I didn't want to catch all pokémon, or even buy the dlc I just wanted to never touch it again once I was done with the story. It made me also really upset how Pokémon/Game Freak makes such horrible games, regardless Pokémon being one of the biggest franchises in the world. What made me upset is that we fans will buy their games because we love pokémon, and they don't care, and will always release unfinished buggy games just because they know we will buy them. You'd think in 2024 we'd have the best pokémon games EVER but no, they're getting worse and worse! No matter how much I complain, I will still buy them. Which I hate. That's for that! It's ironic that you feel the areas are a bit too BIG and that the game is called Petit Island, lol. I think the visuals of this game would appeal to younger players and keep them busy (getting lost on an island), while their caregivers complete chores/tasks somewhere else in the background. The subject matter of the story might be too deep for a youth to grasp by themselves, but with parental guidance I think venturing out to take pictures for a scrapbook shouldn't be too difficult (it has more freedom than being on rails compared to Pokémon Snap, lol).

It's honestly a bad Zelda game, it's not a terrible game, just a mediocre 6/10. It completely failed to live up to the hype, and they failed in the promise of the return to classic dungeons. 😅 The closest they got was the deku dungeon, it was the only place in the entire game where you can collect more than one key. Literally every other dungeon was essentially a corridor with very few exceptions, that last a minute or two to dead end and then return to the corridor. yeah the hand holding was extreme. You had roughly 45 minutes before the game gave you the first choice. It took all the elements of Breath of the Wild and applied the wrong lessons. The Link's Awakening remaster may be only 2 hours long (If you know what you're doing), but it's so much better than Echos of Wisdom, even though it is a linear Zelda Experience.

Another big issue with Mario & Luigi: Brothership is the pacing. I think out of all the Mario & Luigi games or even Mario RPG'S in general, Brothership has the worst pacing I've ever seen. Probably on par with Dream Team. People mentioned the beginning was slow. But there also sailing & side missions that felt so padding and don't guve you any good rewards, too much dialog & writing that overstays it's welcome ( I know it's a RPG niche. But at least give us a option to skip it. ). And the endgame is a slog. Combined with Luigi's AI and notbhaving him in seperate controls like he was in the previous games, this game gets really frustrating and boring.

One Switch game that comes to my mind that I kind of regret buying was Songs of a Hero. A charming platformer where the hero sings and reacts to what's happening in the game. Which sounded like a really fun idea. Problem is that from what I played (never beat it), the hero was silent for like 70% of the game. Since the game advertised itself as having the hero change the song, and actually react to what was happening, I was expecting much more amusing, humorous, and dynamic scenarios. Especially if certain actions were to cause him to fumble over what he's trying to sing against what's actually happening. Instead, what I got was a game where certain triggers activate certain lines of music that sometimes no longer match what's happening by time the line is finished, or long voids of absolutely no singing because I'm not activating any new triggers due to trying to explore. And because the game was super generic outside of that singing mechanic, it didn't hold my attention for longer than a few stages. Another that comes to mind is Spirit of the North. A neat little game, but for being so focused on story and exploration, I found it completely lackluster how vague the story was. It started out kind of intriguing, but by the end of the game, I felt like the story hadn't evolved at all, and I hadn't learned anything new about it that i didn't learn in the first 20 minutes. Leaving me with absolutely no payoff in the end, and even fewer answers or understanding of what was supposed to be going on. Especially when the murals that the game keeps showing you don't ever change from the first few you see at the beginning to develop the story at all. And when you top that off with the fact that you can't even lose the game, the whole package left me feeling dissatisfied. As for New Pokemon Snap, I was also disappointed by it, but for entirely different reasons. I loved the original back in the day, on the N64. And going into this new one, it had a lot of promise. I genuinely loved a lot of the new stuff they added, from having tons of quests to complete, to a much more elaborate story, and even how much more vast and interesting the stages were. The problem for me, however, was that I just couldn't get into the game like I did the original. Without any friends around to share the experience, and just because I've grown older and can no longer be as thoroughly entertained by simpler things as I could when I was younger, it's just not the kind of game that I can enjoy like I did back then. And I'm confident that I would feel the same way about the first game as well, if I were to try revisiting it. Because despite how much I loved it back then, we all change as we grow older, and I just can't find enjoyment in that kind of game anymore unless I have friends to play alongside me. Resulting in New Pokemon Snap being an appreciated and wonderful sequel, but one that, for me, came too late.
