In this video, I share ten things that are normal in Thailand but different from the United States. The video is shot around my neighborhood in Phuket to give you a firsthand look at daily life. From the freedom from material pressures to the simplicity of living here, you'll get an inside view of why I make Thailand home. #phuket #thailand #expat
VIDEO LOCATIONS ⬇️

Also featured, the topics of public safety, the convenience of motorcycle taxis, and how easy it is to get healthcare without jumping through hoops. Plus, the cashless payment culture, the lack of a tipping expectation, and why you get great value for your money here.
SCENES 🎬
Item 1: Freedom 0:24
Discussing the sense of freedom in Thailand - freedom from the constant need to impress and keep up with everyone else. It is quite liberating.
Item 2: Simplicity 2:20
Life in Thailand is all about simplicity. Reflecting on Thoreau's concept of "quiet desperation" and how it applies to the materialism and constant striving in US life, contrasted with the contentment seen in Thailand. Thoreau said, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation." In Thailand, people seem to desire what they already have, embracing simplicity.
Item 3: Cashless Payments 3:40
Carrying cash is almost unnecessary. From street vendors to small coffee stands, everyone in Thailand uses cashless payments. It is very convenient.
Item 4: Joy 5:20
The concept of the Thai Smile is very real. There is genuine joy in everyday tasks, and several examples illustrate this point.
Item 5: Convenience of Motorcycle Taxis 6:55
Motorcycle taxis, or GrabBike, make getting around easy and cheap. The convenience is remarkable.
Item 6: Safety 8:10
Thailand feels much safer compared to the US, especially regarding gun violence. It is a relief to feel secure there.
Item 7: No Prescription Needed for Blood Work 9:25
Getting a blood test doesn’t require a doctor's order. This straightforward process saves time and money.
Item 8: No Prescription Needed for Medication 11:10
Getting medications is hassle-free. Walking into a pharmacy and getting what is needed without a prescription is that simple.
Item 9: No Tipping Culture 13:00
Tipping isn’t expected, yet the service is always friendly and welcoming. Dining out is much more enjoyable without the pressure to tip.
Item 10: Value for What You Pay 14:25
In Thailand, you really get your money's worth. The food is great, the service is excellent, and everything is affordable. Eating out is a pleasure.

During this video, I take you around my neighborhood (again) and share with you 10 'normal' things in Thailand but not in the U.S. I discuss aspects of living in Thailand that I appreciate more compared to being in the U.S. 🇺🇸 like less materialism, better safety, the dining experience, and convenient health services. #expatlife

Also, in thailand when you go to a bank to open an account, the customer care service actually walks around and helps people fill out forms, get the token, direct them to correct queues etc., and not just sit on their desks all day.

TRUTH! However, some prescriptions do require a doctor's signature, or at the minimum, require you to show a prior prescription ordered. (IE: anything with Codein). Enjoying your videos. Thank you

in the US I paid 20$ for noodles soup, yes I feel like I got ripped off but I was hungry so I have to buy and that make me miss Thailand so I have to move back to Thailand. I think the grocery prices even go worse this year. If I continue to live in US I must get broke.

The U.S and really the western world has been on a downward slope since 2008 after the massive bank bailouts. Instead of letting poorly run companies, institutions, and individuals go bankrup like they deserved we bailed them out at the expense of our society. This has been ongoing for 15 years now, with things really accelerating since 2000. I'm looking to get out and I'm 50. Thnx for the vid.

The economic landscape has shifted over the past 15 years, with many people feeling the impact of those financial decisions. It’s understandable that you’re looking for a change. Glad the video was helpful for you, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

is it REALLY cashless? Im going to pattaya first time and worried about only having my Amex & Visa. I used paypal or venmo for everything else like buying stuff off Facebook marketplace to private sellers I never use cash and hate carrying it. Also anyone bother you about no helmet? hate wearing a helmet if just shooting around town at 30kph... Also getting a full blood panel soon as I land. its 1200$ here in usa right now with no insurance for a full hormone panel.

I didn’t see it, except for the western places, I would’ve said it was completely the opposite 🤷‍♂️

Great to hear you're making your first trip! I think you'll be quite happy. In the Old City of Phuket, where not too many people wear helmets, no one seems to bother you. However, in other cities like Chiang Mai, they set up traps to fine those without a helmet, which is about $10-$20. As for your blood panels, they are generally less expensive here compared to the U.S. in my experience. Cashless payments are common, but cash is still accepted almost everywhere as well.

It’s not even close. Thailand has a much better quality of life over the USA hands down. Thai people are much friendlier and nicer than Americans who are angry, confrontational and stressed out of their minds or on drugs.
@PhilipJames360
@PhilipJames360 4 күн бұрын
I can see why you feel that way. For many people, Thailand does offer a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere compared to the U.S., especially with its slower pace of life, lower cost of living, and warm, welcoming culture. The friendliness of Thai people and their approach to life can be a refreshing change from the high levels of stress and confrontation that can sometimes be felt in the U.S. Of course, every place has its pros and cons, and experiences vary, but for many expats, Thailand’s quality of life is indeed be a major draw.

Phuket is expensive but if you know how to live like a local everywhere in Thailand you can find a cheap Thai price😂 because here in Thailand not every business operating on huge profit to buy a big house , a new car , or open more shop,got Mechelen star ,or etc. usually mom and pop shop here just want to send their kids to the university and then live a simple life style in retirement. Buddha teach us that only good karma follow you to your next life not a single penny can do so. That's why Thai people so friendly and helpful and like to give something for free and donation regularly cuz that's how you converted this life currency to the next life lucky.

Thank you for this: "Buddha teach us that only good karma follow you to your next life not a single penny can do so ....that's how you converted this life currency to the next life lucky." Western countries could learn from this approach to life.
