My mom when she passed away was skin and bones and very pale. At the viewing she was very bloated and the makeup that was applied to her face wasn't blended very well, but I was to distraught to care. I looked at it in a positive way. Her skin was full of color and she didn't look like skin and bones. Her body have been ravaged by cancer. My mom had wanted some Fendi perfume. I wasn't able to find it for her, for Christmas. A few days after she passed away. I went to a local store in town and across from the store a yellow box stood out and I had to go look at it. I went toward the box and it was a box of Fendi perfume. The day of her viewing I drenched a cotton ball with Fendi perfume and placed it inside a plastic bag and carried it with me. I went up to her and I took the cotton ball and I placed some the perfume on her wrist. I said to my mom here's the perfume I promised you Mom. A few days after the viewing I swear that I felt a slight breeze go past me like someome was walking by me and then a scent of the Fendi perfume was in the air.

My grandma came to me one day while I was taking a nap. She passed away in 2013 but in the dream she was wearing the dress we buried her in and she was telling me how she didn’t want to leave us but had no choice. Reason why I felt so much guilt was because the night before she passed I was going to go visit her at hospice but I since I just got off work and was tired, I thought I’d go visit her the next day. She passed away the following morning and i never got to see her again. But in the dream I cried so hard and it felt so damn real. I miss her and I think of her ever single day.

Love your videos! So happy to see more open death talk from professionals! My best friend's father died suddenly a few years back and she had him cremated. I told her it was OK to open the urn, it wasn't weird or inappropriate, and what she should probably expect to find. She called me because she was concerned and confused that other than ashes, small bone fragments, and ID chip there was also 49 cents of loose change. I told her it was a good thing because it meant that the crematory was honest and respectful. I also mentioned that it was the most appropriate thing I could think of because her father never had a round number of cash nor did he ever give her a 5, 10, or 20 for something for herself. If he did, he made us go down to the store and buy a gallon of milk then he would give her the odd numbered change to go see a movie. She was always embarrassed about that when we were younger. Now, she thinks of it as something very special that only she and her father shared and always will. I'm grateful to the crematory staff for keeping that change with the ashes rather than giving it to her seperately. I think it helped her process some of her grief.

@@TheGraveWoman Thank you right back. Her father's death was a very brutal process on her as she was left as executor. She never got a moment to grieve for herself and I didn't make it back home to help her in time to stop the funeral home from extorting her, but I did have a talk with them when I arrived to let them know that I can't afford the schooling so I have been working on self-teaching in the mean time and I follow morticians on KZbin; I'm not going to allow them to continue doing that to her because she is young and inexperienced. Honestly, I hesitated to mention that memory to her but my Death Doula training told me to tell her and take it from there. After a moment of thinking, she laughed. For the first time in 2 weeks, she smiled and laughed. She said that factor never would have occurred to her. So, every other member of the family took a bit of ashes but she took enough of the change so that she and her dad always have an odd amount of change on them, lol.

This is very informative..... Because every since I was four years old I had a phobia of dead people. I remember just as if it happened yesterday. I was asked by a cousin of mine whom is a hairdresser to help do my deceased grandmother's hair, makeup & nails at the funeral home. My grandmother she was a beautiful lady and loved getting her hair and nails done. I declined because I didn't think that I could mentally or emtionally handle seeing my grandmother in that state. The Grave Woman it’s funny you asked me that question. When I started in this division it was VERY hard to get it out of my mind. My first case I had to look at the crime scene photos, this had a profound effect on me. I came home I couldn’t get it out of my mind I didn’t know what to do. I called my father who is a retired prosecutor and circuit court criminal judge and asked him how he did it. His answer to me was “think of yourself as the person that is speaking for someone who cannot speak anymore.” Every time I have to look at photos, I always remind myself why I do the job I do.

My grandma passed in February and we had to let the funeral home take her rings off cause we couldn’t get them off. My mind has run wild ever since wondering what their method would be, my mind kept going to cutting the finger off since she was just being cremated and wasn’t being viewed and it kinda made me start to think like what happens to these bodies that aren’t really the people we love because it’s just a physical body, but it’s still something we cuddled and saw everyday, when they are handed over to someone else. I’m glad people get to have you be someone they trust, you seem so kind and respectful but diligent and I appreciate that a lot.

I helped "lay out", as it was called, my two grandmothers with my mother. It was the old-fashioned way with a bandage under the jaw to the top of the head, coins over the eyes and hands in repose over the chest until rigor mortis was come and gone. Then we dressed them in the clothes they had chosen, cleaned their faces and hands, applied pale nail varnish and a little blusher and lipstick and finally brushed and set their hair. During this process there are quite a lot of bodily noises and excretion of wind and odour. I was 24 when my first grandmother died and this process was quite disturbing to me. By the time my second grandmother died I had had my children and had been to many family funerals and so I wasn't quite so traumatised. Luckily I think it's unusual now for family to lay out the body. Not nice.

It is obvious that you did your homework to prepare for your present level as a professional mortician. Continue to obtain practical experience; as well as, considering to go back to school. It will not be easy, but you can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you (Phil 4:13). P. S., I know nothing about Mortuary Science. Hi, just wanted to let you know that you obviously not only do the deceased & family proud but you are also doing yourself proud in what you do for the individual & how you treat the family ,you come across as such a kind & thoughtful person, I worked as a nurse for many year's but sadly I was forced to retire from my dream job at the age of 39 due to ill health & believe me I'd go back in a heartbeat ,I miss it so so much ,before working in my local hospital while my 2boys were small I worked nights for around 6 yrs, so as I'm sure you could imagine I saw lots off passing's, if we knew we had a person who you just knew would pass soon , during the shift we would take in turned to sit with them so as not to be alone. We would always lay the individual out before the family would come in and I always found it an privilege to be able to do this final thing for that person , now I just wondered when you are dealing with the person do you find that you talk to them , explaining what you are about to do to them ect or is it just myself oh plus the ppl I worked with , call me crazy it's a tad weird I guess to some ppl , maybe it's a British thing I'm unsure so I though I'd ask what you're own thoughts are about this, anyways I've taken far to much of your time, just wanted to say how respectful an lovely of a person you are, keep up ur amazing work ,no doubt in my mind you're a true Angel & I have no doubt that you are very highly thought of, plz #staysafe during this tough time , sending love n hugs from Wales in the u.k & hope you and all you're family n friends make it through this real hard time with covid-19 . Take care lovely 💞💐💞 🇺🇸🙏🏼🇬🇧
