I work in farm labor and have a bunch of co workers who speak Mixtec and I want to surprise them with some words .this is perfect I’m gonna take some candy and offer it in Mixtec . My dads from Oaxaca but he never learned Mixtec. It’s an awesome language .

Beautiful! I also speak three languages English, Mixteco, and Spanish. A lot of these words, but it was still very interesting how even the accents and emphasis on certain words differ from pueblo to pueblo. Just followed you on IG and I will share this video with my org at UC Berkeley, Oaxacal.

Thank you! My 2nd graders mostly speak Spanish (4 speak Mixteco), so they are enjoying learning some Mixteco. Can you teach how to say some other common words like: hello (good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight), goodbye, please, thank you, how are you?, and have a good day.

Depending on the region or towns, the dialect tends to change, i speak mixteco also but the way we speak it doesnt sound like hers also. It definitely changes from the regions in oaxaca, guerrero

What type of Mixteco is this ? My dad is Mixteco from oaxaca and everytime I try to learn from videos online he says the words are slightly different and says the language varies from town to town … giving me the impression that the only way to learn it is to live there .

YOUR DAD IS 100% CORRECT!! there's sooo many varients that just bkus we say we speak mixteco doesn't necessarily mean we all understand each other 😥 some words can have a different meaning in another town its been the most difficult things I've had to learn 😖 & yes could help to learn it if you live there I was lucky enough to learn it from my mom as a lil girl living in the U.S

I was born in the states too It’s definitely hard to learn when you don’t have anyone speaking the native tongue to you It was easier for me because my mom only spoke mixteco to me so I caught on pretty fast My best advise is try to get her dad to speak to her or to have her around his family more so she can hear them & interact with them
