I have nothing against screen time as well! I will say as a waitress it is a little offputting when there are kids sitting at the table watching individual screens instead of having a family meal. I noticed with my siblings, It was a habit they started as toddlers. Now with my own toddler, we decided not to use screens in restaurants and the first year of restaurant outings was very stressful but now as a 2 year old he will sit and eat, color, and play with toys, I’m so glad! You’re a great mom! I loved the video (:

The snacks, toddler stations, and love that table where you hide the toys. I do hide my darlings toys too 😅, a hack I learned from my mom. But I really want that clean straight table with the space inside. Other take away is to spend time outdoors. We do but yes definitely need to go out much more! Screen time may be controversial but for us is almost a complete “no” . Too much research into the bad effects of it. I find he’s not even interested in it as much. But yes, I do understand that now that he’s almost 1 1/2 years old. We may need some distractions, so a toddlers tablet is something I am thinking of buying. Singing is so awesome for almost anything so that’s my hack for those very dirty diaper moments. Last but definitely not least, I so understand how much time u put into thinking about every small thing & yes it’s sometimes overwhelming but I also love it. This time will also fly & I will miss it then. ove, love, love ur ideas!! Love from Pakistan ❤

Most important tip is not overreacting and being an example to them. It is hard but I want my children to be treated with patience and kindness. It really does effect a child's self esteem when a parent blows up at them.

The only hack I cannot agree with is the 'snacks.' Snacks are the food industry's way of making us buy more and eat more. The snacking habit teaches kids bad eating habits in the long run. Constant snacking causes insulin spikes, which in turn causes a host of disease in the body. Getting the kids used to snacking from such a young age has disastrous consequences. They don't really need the food when they ask for snacks, they just want a distraction. We need to get kids used to being mindful of their surroundings and not needing constant distractions.

If your child doesn’t eat all of their breakfast or lunch they may want a snack so saying yes to a healthy snack is perfectly fine. But hey if you don’t want to give your child a snack that’s totally your parenting choice.

Another tip: avoid daycare if you can and if you can’t, plan for lots of PTO and focus on your sleep and vitamins to support immunity. Those daycare viruses they bring home are brutal!!!
@boston84492 жыл бұрын
Or you could look at the positive and see that their immune system is being strengthened. In our area there are no day homes with free space and I find there is a lot of "daycare shaming" from other parents for us. So I choose to look at the bright side, my 18 month old gets sick much less often than when he started at 1 year and it's great to have multiple adults in the room for accountability. Kids are going to be around many other kids in kindergarten so it's ok for them to have exposure in daycare as well.

I have 2 under 2 (technically a 2 1/2 year old and about to be 1 year old now) but still. My 2 year old has been on a 10 with his anger and aggression lately. He’s been hitting and biting every time his baby brother takes a toy or if a kid at school takes a toy and when ye bites or hits it’s so hard to just be like okay that’s not nice let’s not do that like my baby is now sitting there screaming in pain and my toddler is just like oh well. I truly try gentle parenting but I feel like by not reacting I’m condoning the behavior now. That’s 100% a personal opinion and by no means shaming anyone. I am just super struggling with not reacting to him being violent towards others especially when we aren’t violent at home so the hitting and biting I’m assuming he is learning at daycare.
@giselle_b2 жыл бұрын
What helps in situations like this is to ask what’s causing the aggression. Finding out the cause helps us understand why our children are behaving this way and gives us the ability to handle the situation more calmly (while still not condoning the behavior), and in a way that would reduce how often it happens in the future or prevent it altogether. Aggression is usually caused by frustration, so in the case of a sibling or another kid taking the toy from your son, he gets frustrated by that and doesn’t know how to stop it from happening so gets angry and acts aggressively. It’s nobody’s fault and a common reaction many kids have. I know it’s much easier said than done to remain calm in these situations, but us having a big reaction every time our kids behave aggressively doesn’t address the cause of the issue and may not be helping to stop the aggression. A friend of mine showed me a wonderful article about this very topic, it’s by Dr. Deborah Macnamara and it’s called ‘What our Kids Need Us to Understand about Aggression’. I would link it but I think youtube deletes comments with links, but it can be easily found on google.

Love these hacks but the snack one doesn't work in our family. My baby is such a good eater now that she eats a lot. So if we are not out for long enough we actually don't bring snacks because we don't want her to eat so many snacks and not be full enough fo her meals. And I also don't want her to associate snack with every time we go out.

Some of this tips are super good, but i have to strongly disagree on tablets for children under 2-3years old. There is not one, but rly many doctors and researches that says, tablets/phones are literally like a cocaine for your child. Im strong on that one with our wild 15 months old, no tablets, and sure its hard sometimes, you just need to be more creative and we are not making longer car rides than 1h (if its 3h ride sometimes its 2 stops on the way). Restaurant time is always getting messy at some point, but then we switch and entertain him. And yes i do also limit my screen time when im around him, tbh its only win-win for our health. We do small video calls with family members but always trying to use back camera. I know it will change at some point but its way too early before 2years old.
