Connectors literally merge cars together into the same vehicle but with several different control groups so it'd be pretty fine

To be honest, I think it is easier for physics engine this way: I don't know how this games physics behaves, but it seems fused vehicles are fully constrained together (no degree of freedom). In this case, for most simulation cases, the hovercraft will be simplified as it if was one big object and not several ones... To it actually can ease physics^^
