I woke up during surgery on my face to remove a growth. The skin on my face was stretched over my eyes. When I realized that what I was looking at was the blood vessels, hairs and zits on my face. I had a similar incident happen to me. I've always had a fear of going to the dentist and having various procedures. I was convinced that sedation dentistry was the answer to my fears. They put you to sleep and when you wake up all your dental work is completed and you don't have to experience the trauma. It was more expensive to do it this way but worth it, or so I was promised. I felt this intense pressure in my head like I was being pulled, I thought I was dreaming. I started moaning and I realized I was waking up and he basically had a pair of pliers in my mouth pulling a molar out. He told me to relax and they would give me more anesthesia. Once it was over and I was awake I was angry because I felt further traumatized. Not only did this jerk not apologize he charged me an additional $500 for having to use the additional anesthesia. I'm not sure if he still practices or not but his office was in Playa Del Rey, CA He caters to dental chickens was his tag line.

I know a woman who went to a pain treatment center for a spinal pain block, whatever that is. She was told it would take only fifteen minutes. She had told the doctor that she had a heart murmur but he brushed it off as nothing. She said that she told the doctor that she was getting very cold and her blood pressure was dropping. She said, they did nothing and proceeded with the pain block. She then said, that the next thing was she couldn’t feel anything but could hear the doctor say, "Help me get her onto the table." She continued to hear them say things like, "No Vitals! What? "She has no vitals! "Do you want me to code her? No! "What??? Doctor: "I have to do something." She said, he left the room. She knew this because she heard the nurse that was left in her room speak to the nurse rolling the crash cart back down the hall. She said that the nurse told the other nurse that she had crashed and the doctor wouldn’t let her code the patient. They were panicking but couldn’t do anything without the doctors say. She said that the doctor finally came back into the room and was talking about how ice cold she was. Forty five minutes later, the patient was getting warmer and was able to move. She told the dr everything that was said and that he had left her with a frightened nurse and nothing was done for her. The dr was stunned and again disregarded what she said. The doctor told her husband what had happened but left everything else out. Stuff happens when the wrong people practice on you. She's still alive and doing well, I talked to her yesterday. She is very picky of doctors these days and will put it off way too long now.

this is more common then one might think especially for gingers. for some reason redheads genetically have a higher tolerance to both pain and anesthesia then most other people almost like a tolerance immunity. I speak from experience having woken up during 2 surgeries myself, one was a benign tumor removal from my right arm. woke up with the doctors thumb and forefinger berried in my arm moving around tendons to get to the mass of fatty tissue and the other was during an arthroscopic knee surgery I had, to stich back together my acl after having torn it during a fight. needless to say they were crazy painful experiences to say the least. I can still remember starting to come to and realizing I was hearing the surgeon talk about his sons little league baseball game to the surgical assistant. what a crazy time that was.

And then i blacked out again. everything went normal after that.. And the second time in 2014 i woke up in the middle of a nose diaphragm surgery and pulled out some of the tissues they were putting in my nose. And then, I again black out again. This is one of the reasons in 2018 I had to have my appendix out and a few months later I had to have my gall bladder out. I begged them to PLEASE don't leave and don't let me wake up and don't let me die. I did not wake up but I think they blasted me with "knock out drops". When I was done and in recovery, my eyes were open but I was blind for quite some time until my brain powered fully up. I remember......I had to go to the "green room" I call the operating room. My husband was told to stay back. I was wheeled into the green room. They began to strap my legs down and told me to hold my arm out. I was afraid I was being executed. I said watta doing! They said, it's okay, it's okay. Then this nice Asian man named Jin said I give you happy juice. I was SO scared. They put a mask on my face that was so big it was almost covering my eyes. He said breathe I said WHY! He said it's just oxygen, do you feel better? I shook my head and said nooooo but I was going out. I did not wake up in the middle. I was afraid of drug abuse in the OR. Anyway, both surgeries, I was blasted. It was quite difficult to shake off the anesthesia. They started spooning jello in my mouth with pain meds in it. I was spitting it out and I head exasperation. A voice commanded swallow it! I said, I can't I'm queasy! Some people should not be nurses. I tried to get up to give them a serious punch but I was temporarily blind and weak. She then cradled my head and stroked it. I did not feel sad, just in a lot of pain. I was then asleep again. It was awful. I have post traumatic stress from it. I had to have a modified mastectomy and that went okay. I woke up but it took hours for my brain to power back up fully but when it did, it was like nothing ever happened. They gave me pain meds and something for nausea and I was ready to eat and drink, which I did. The pain meds took care of pain and I did not ask for any or any more. I was treated very well. It was a good hospital.

I have no idea how I came across this on KZbin but this totally happened to me during a cosmetic procedure over 25 years ago. I woke up hearing music going and the plastic surgeon talking so casually about his weekend plans and lots of laughing, etc. I was not paralyzed like most during other surgeries so I actually spoke to him and told him to make sure he takes out enough fat (had liposuction). I felt no pain but felt the suction. Right after I spoke, it was complete silence and then I was out. Certainly not as dramatic and traumatic as so many others but I now make sure before any surgery that this happened to me and that I do not want it to happen to me again.

I used to work in op theatre, and one guy did wake up. Screaming “your killing me” and a fight even took place, guy got put back under anaesthetic and the doctor then punched the patient in the face while he was asleep, the doctor was upset this guy had punched him. I’m not joking, the doctor punched the patient in the face when he was asleep. Other joys happened while I was there, like medical mistakes that nearly claimed the patients lives, and they get told “ everything went fine”. I was a operating theatre porter if your wondering.

I had back surgery twice. One on the left side of my spine and the next on the right side. These were two weeks apart. I was awake and felt everything with both of them. I would wake up unable to move but I felt EVERYTHING. I explained this experience with the doctor after the first one. He said they would adjust things for the second one. Well didn’t work. He then asked if I was a red head before turning grey. He said red heads are prone to having to need more anesthesia. I told him no. Even when I had extensive work done on my teeth when they broke, I had 16 numbing shots before they could start.

That's not the problem -- it's the paralytic drug they give that causes the nightmare of waking up but being unable to move or speak to let them know. They need to ban these paralyzing drugs, no need for them, it's like deliberate torture.

I woke up during an operation on my knee & also woke up during an operation for perforated intestines . I felt extreme burning during the abdominal surgery & you don't want to know what i saw 😳.. Now i make sure the anesthesiologist know before surgery , i have had several surgeries since then & have not had that problem.👍

Oh yeah! Waking up after have a major surgery isn’t fun it all! You can still feel some pain once the aesthetics wears off! I’m living witness of going under the knife for many connections surgeries towards my fingers during my childhood days!
