The Joker as a man with a plan isn't a flaw -- it's the *point*: The Joker lies.
@TheDelinear

Right? He wants people to think he's crazy and does the unpredictable because that way they won't be expecting him to have a calculated plan and try to figure out what it might be (which is why, traditionally, Gotham's Uber Detective Bruce Wayne is his nemesis, because he doesn't make this false assumption). If anyone watched that movie and thought to themselves, "Well, this was an otherwise perfect movie, but that crazed, clown make-up wearing crime boss just told a *lie*, it completely ruined the whole thing for me!" then... I honestly don't know what to say to that person.

"No....there is another." - Yoda, referring to Luke's sister.... It was known to the writers that they were siblings, at least before Empire Strikes Back. This was probably worked out the same time Lucas decided to make Han her love interest.

The Irony here is great, we're talking about the Joker saying he doesn't have a plan and actually having one, and Obi-Wan saying Vader killed Luke's Father, which IS metaphorical, dumb shits. Anyways the best part is you guys are trying to prove that George Lucas didn't have a plan, I just find this whole thing funny... and revealing.

It's not really all that convenient it is all pretty much all planned out as obi-wan has lied on many accounts much more is explained in the comics but one instance where you can see obi-wan caught in a similar situation is when he tells luke "I never owned this droid" is another misleading answer refering to r2 when he is shown leia's holovid. And he never did own r2 or c3p0 they belonged to anakin. you see later however on the falcon r2 moves to obi-wans side while hes training luke with the sensory disruptor and he says "its been a long time my old friend" showing that he does still remeber r2 and just about everything else. some of the more current cannon comics detailing obi-wans time on tattooine show him growing pretty senile he is the ultimate troll and thats that there is no flaw there. for them to point that out as a flaw is silly id rather them cover flaws of how some of cannon now interacts with legends and where plot holes followed after cutting so much from the EU because now there exist quite a few random holes that they are pretty much ignoring

In the matrix the Wachowskis originally wanted humans to be grown and kept in the matrix while their brains could be used as a kind of neural network for complex computations. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. decided that people watching the movie would be too stupid to understand this, so the Wachowskis had to change it to the battery thing. It makes a lot less sense, but at least we know it isn’t the Wachowskis’ fault

In fact, from the original movie's perspective, there is no flaw at all. When the movie came out, George Lucas had not yet come up with the "I am your father" plot twist, so the story Obi-Wan tells Luke is the rightful one. The problem is only with ESB, which, by creating the great plot twist, created a great plot hole along with it.

When Morgan Freeman gives the "How often do you look at a man's shoes" line I laughed out loud and nodded knowingly because I lived it. For ten years I worked a job that required a suit. Which means dress shoes. One day I wasn't having that uncomfortable crap anymore and wore solid black (decidedly NOT shiny) sneakers. Which I continued to do five days a week, over 8 hours a day, for ten years. No one EVER said a word or even to the best of my knowledge looked down. They caught the color (black) in their peripheral vision and that was good enough. So no, the guards wouldn't have looked down. What would there be to see DOWN during a normal moment in a prison? Nothing.

When I was a child and watch Shawshank for the first time I tested the theory. I put up my brother shoes and went straight at him and talked about a random topic.... he didn`t noticed the shoes until I point it out to him. People take stuff for granted, I wasn`t supposed to be using his shoes, so he didn`t imagine that. Also, magicians ofter use missdirection to prevent you to look at something he doesn`t want you to see. All I`m saying is that human perception is not as accurate as we think it is

That's not even the biggest issue here. Humans CAN be better 'batteries' because of how nutrients are extracted. A gallon of gas has more energy potential than your car's engine produces from one gallon of gas - but you can't extract the energy in that gas without a motor... So yes, humans would produce less energy than what they're consuming, but humans may be the most effective way of turning that POTENTIAL energy into USABLE electricity

I completely disagree with your Shawshank flaw. I mean sure there is a chance the guard would notice his nice shiny shoes, but far more likely it would be just like the movie showed it. Prison guards aren't known for being super genius Sherlocks. Then, even if a guard did notice his shoes what is he going to do? Think to himself, "Oh my goodness! Andy is wearing shiny new shoes! He must be planning to escape tonight and is using the new shoes to help him look like a successful and wealthy businessman in order to rob the warden of his ill-gotten gains!" A far more likely scenario if his shoes were noticed would be for them to think nothing of it. I mean he is the wardens pet prisoner. Maybe the warden was feeling generous and gave him some new shoes. Maybe Andy decided he wanted new shoes and got them through the black market via Red. Either way the shoes weren't even a tiny plot hole let alone a major plot hole.

TheBobBrom He probably packed shoeshine into the bag he brought, or else got them cleaned up before he visited the bank. And the punishment would be a big deal. In BTTF, Marty would actually have started driving towards the clock tower at the moment the alarm clock went off, but (if you remember) the De Lorean wouldn't start. When it DID start, it was at EXACTLY the right time to hit the cable when the lightning struck. The reason this happened? The universe itself is intervening to assist Marty in going back to the time he belongs in. The other times the car fails to start are for the same reason - when he attempts to drive into Hill Valley in it (imagine the problems THAT would cause) and when he arrives back in 1985 - if he could have driven to the mall, he would have arrived in time to prevent the events happening at all that caused him to go back to 1955 in the first place - result, a massive paradox! So him hitting the cable at exactly the moment that lightning struck wasn't a fluke, but was the inevitable result of the universe making sure paradoxes didn't occur. Er... simple! (I think)
@CaptainRC1
@CaptainRC1 7 жыл бұрын
Actually, the BttF flaw can be explained. The clock may not have a second hand, but it does have what every clock in that time period (and some clocks today) have: gears. To anyone intimately familiar with the workings of a clock, it wouldn't be a stretch for said person to see that the gear that moves the minute hand had just moved it the instant before the clock was struck by lightning. And after the clock was struck, the city most likely sent in such a person to assess the damage. (And given Doc Brown's obsession with clocks, they probably consulted him as well.) After examining the damage and determining exactly how, why, and, when the clock stopped, the local newspaper printed the story... including that particular information... which was photocopied onto a flyer 30 years later by the Hill Valley Historical Preservation Society... which one was handed to Marty McFly, which traveled back in time with him so that he was able to relay that particular information to Dr. Brown a week before the event happened.

Yes. The Hill Valley Historical Preservation Society 'save the clock tower' Lady gave Marty the flyer which said at 'precisely' 10:04 pm the clock was struck my lightning. All they had to do was sync their clocks with the working clock in 1955. My flaw to add would have been that the DeLorean wouldn't start when the alarm clock went off to signal Marty it was time to hit the gas. he lost about 10 seconds there.
@Detroit_Dawg

What? The flyer said NOTHING about what precise second lightning hit the tower, just that it struck at 4 after 10 pm. With no knowledge of what second lightning hit, past doc had no real clue of when in that 60 second gap lightning would strike. But for Movie sake of course it happened to hit right at 10:04 on the nose.

Doc said that the Clock Tower in BTTF was struck by lightening at "PRECISELY 10:04pm" one would think that the Historical Society would have included the information on the pamphlet that Doc read out loud with Jennifer's phone number written on the back. With that said, the glaring hole in BTTF is actually in the second instalment when old Biff manages to return back to the original future to drop back the Delorean after already altering the past by handing himself the Sports Almanac. Old Biff should have returned to the 'alternate' 2015.

It's because old Biff leaves before young Biff has placed his first bet. At the moment old Biff leave 1955 the future hasn't changed yet. Until young Biff does something different the original future still exists. And you don't know at that moment that Marty will be successful because the original future isn't the one that is set in play by the end of the films when Marty avoid the car crash. At that point, the original future is also changed.

the starwars one is bogus. pretty sure everyone knows obiwan was using a metaphor for anikin's transition from light to dark, instead of strait up saying "hey luke, your father is the biggest fucking douche bag in the entire galaxy" which apart from being a realy rough way to break it to luke, would also have been realy unbelievable for luke. looking at it from an "outside the movie perspective" it was also a great way of doing some foreshadowing, setting the audience up for a future "oh i get it" moment, instead of just blowing the big secret with in 20min of the first movie.

They also weren't sure there were going to be any other movies, so details like that didn't matter. According to some sources, the next two movies weren't even completely written yet and underwent a lot of changes. So who knows, maybe Lucas actually meant it in "New Hope" but then decided by "Empire" it would be cooler to have things turn out like they did.
@omegastudios9658
@omegastudios9658 7 жыл бұрын
Actually, not true at all. What Obi Wan said was originally true. It wasn't til the screenwriting of Empire that Lucas decided to make that twist. It's why I don't see why people were surprised bout the HD changes since it's all Lucas ever did from the very beginning. In fact, Luke got to meet his real father's force ghost thing in the original draft for empire on dagobah.
@Aenonar
@Aenonar 7 жыл бұрын
Originally Obi-Wan was the one who had killed his father, but then Lucas had the idea of making Vader his father for a massive plot twist. All the continuity errors really are errors because Lucas made up the story as he went along and then tried to salvage it in ROTJ... And then we have the prequels making an even bigger mess of the whole thing...
@mekkiepoo
@mekkiepoo 7 жыл бұрын
Actually the reason is much simpler than this. Vader wasn't originally written to be his father. Luke's father was originally written as a deceased Jedi spirit that would guide Luke to saving the day. As the movie went on tweaks were made changing Obi Wan into the guiding spirit and his father was essentially written out, leaving way for the plot twist to be added in Empire Strikes Back. It all makes sense if you think about it. I mean.. if Luke was originally meant to be in hiding from Vader from the start, hanging out on his home planet with his aunt and uncle would hardly have made sense. Same can be applied to pretty much all of A New Hope's misgivings: The Luke/Leia kiss wasn't gross, because at the time.. they weren't meant to be siblings, Obi Wan wasn't a liar, and of course Vader not "sensing him" during the original death star fight.

The second point on batman begins is stupid. All chemicals have a toxicity point. They added the poison for weeks, as explicitly stated in the movie. They wouldn't do that unless building up to a toxicity point. It wouldn't have the effect, just like you don't die when you swim in a chlorinated pool or drink tap water with chlorine, even though that's one of the deadliest poisons. They even talk about changes in effect due to concentrations of the dose earlier in the movie, and there's no reason to think there wasn't a bunch of spaghetti cooking people with headaches or fainting spells or some other lesser symptom of exposure. I hate when people are too cynical to think straight.

In Back to the Future, not only do they not know the precise second the lightening will strike, their guess was apparently wrong...the alarm goes off and the car dies so Marty didn't start his run at the precise planned time.
@colliric
@colliric 7 жыл бұрын
Except of cause they do know the precise second the clock will be struck. The clocks gears, as it is an analog clock, would have preserved it, and likely marty would have been taught the exact time in school, he may have even had an excursion there. It could have also been written on the flier, which we are told said the precise(meaning down to the second) time. Plus Doc loves his clocks, and during setting up likely would have inspected the gears himself. When the word "Precisely" is used to describe the time, it means "accurate to the second". In BTTF we see the gear move to the position before the lightening hits. So they knew the exact time, because "Precisely" was used in the flyers description and by the "save the clock tower" charity worker.

+Matthew Kite Cars only touch the floor with large thick rubber tires and rubber does not conduct electricity. Cars are one of the safest places to be if lightning strikes because it's almost impossible for the car to be the best way for the lightning to ground itself. I suppose he could have had some unseen metal cable or something dragging under the car so that the lightning can bypass the rubber and ground itself through the metal cable that is attached to the rest of the metal on the car, but more likely the lightning would have struck there regardless of the position of the car as there was another path for it to reach the ground that didn't involve traveling through the car and it's tires.

I’ve thought about the Back to the Future one, and have a proposed answer. They make a big deal of “save the clock tower, and preserve it”. During their campaign they could have sent people up to see exactly where the gears were the moment it stopped. They then could have included that information on the flier, providing not just the exact minute, but the exact second the lightning struck. Doc even said he calculated everything to “the precise moment when lightning strikes”.

The Joker's "no plan" was pretty straightforward. His "plan" was to create chaos. But there was no endgame, no gain on his part; just mayhem for the sake of mayhem. Even the idea of killing Batman was just a way to get an "immovable object" out of his way to ease his ability to create chaos. His plan wasn't intricate, it only seems that way because if what he was doing was a grand design, it all relied on many small contingencies. Really, though, there was no grand design. When it looked like Batman's identity being exposed would create less chaos than keeping it secret, he changed his mind. The Joker was just very capable of adapting as new obstacles were thrown in his path. As the circumstances changed, new opportunities were exposed that the Joker was quick to exploit. This view of it would see the Joker as less of a micro-manager and more of a master of delegation.

The answer to Blofeld not recognizing Bond is simply that the books come in the opposite order of the films. In the book of Her Majesty's Secret Service, Bond marries and his wife is killed by Blofeld. The book of You Only Live Twice is completely different than the movie, except for being set in Japan. In the book, Bond is asked to help the Japanese government in exchange for some intel. The Japanese ask him to kill a guy named Shatterhand who Bond recognizes as Blofeld, after which he gladly agrees. I'm guessing that because the film of You Only Live Twice went so far away from the original book, they felt they could get away with ignoring it for the Lazenby reboot.

It would have been so much simpler if, in "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE", the main villain would have been OSATO. Or, if the character in the volcano crater had been someone OTHER than Blofeld. Frankly, Roald Dahl's script for "YOLT" continues to make LESS sense to me every single time I watch what started out as one of my favorite films (as an epic visual spectacular, with incredible action, choreography, camera-work and music, it's damn-near perfect). One of the SMALL bits that annoys me more and more over time is when, completely out of the blue, Bond tells Tanaka, "No, Osato's just a front." "Who for?" "SPECTRE." At that point in the plot, he has NO reason to suspect their involvement at all!!!! Another major bit of stupidity is the way-- after SWIPING the opening sequence of "MURDERERS' ROW" with Dean Martin (they fake Matt Helm's death so his enemies will think he's dead), nearly every baddie in the film figures out Bond is still alive less than halfway thru the film. I once watched "THUNDERBALL", "OHMSS", "YOLT" and "DIAMONDS" in that order... and would believe? It "felt" more right.

Also back to the future's plot hole you pointed out doesn't stand up either, Doc showed he had access to the inside of the tower & he could check the exact time to the second by checking the gears, just because it doesn't have a second hand doesn't mean it doesn't count the seconds internally, if it didn't then it wouldn't work at all. This is why studio's treat us like idiots, because you can't seem to think outside what they show you on screen in blatant fashion screaming "look at this, you see this? it's important! we'll show you it just in case you don't understand"

Fuzzy Duo your Back to the Future explanation doesn't make any sense. Even if doc DID have access to the internal second hand of the clock, how would he know which second lightning was gonna hit the tower? Like the video said, he only knew it would strike at 10:04 pm, not which second in that minute. Nor did the flyer provide such info.

Actually, the flyer did provide this information. When Doc first read the flyer, he said "it says here, that a bolt of lightning would strike the clock tower at precisely 10:04pm next Saturday night" He also said during the scene with the model where he was explaining what they were going to do, "according to the flyer, at precisely'10:04pm [...] lightning will strike the clock tower". Later on in the movie he finally said the lightning would strike "in exactly 7 minutes and 22 seconds", which was him counting down to that exact time. "Precisely" = 10:04pm sharp.

How to solve the back to the future hang up - There were spools of cable at either end of the wire. As Marty drove, the wire would extend in the direction of the car but still conduct the lightening. Also, this means that Marty doesn't have to be as precise, because by extending the cable he has more time for the lightening to strike. Furthermore, this means that the cable will have more give and be less likely to break under the strain of Marty's car. Docs a genius, he would have thought of this. If you suspend your disbelief a bit further, he may have also developed super conductive cable, he was after-all able to build a time machine.

Ok, here's a flaw. Frodo was wearing his mithril armor in Shelobs caves which apparently is supposed to stop anything. Frodo was stabbed by the giant spider in his torso area. The armor Frodo was wearing should have protected him..... but didn't. Also, the part in the movie where they get ghosts to take out an entire army was kind of ridiculous. 6000 Rohan soldiers travel all that way, many of them die in the battle to defend Gondor, King Theoden also dies...... And then the ghosts show up and take out everything without busting a sweat.

Also really, if the CSI is so amazing you think the source of a fire can't be traced? It has been a while since I watched the movie, but, did the people who killed the wife and burned the building get away with it? When doc brown explains how Marty can get to his own time earlier in the film, it’s done in a way that comically makes the audience see only the seeming impossibility of doing so. The dramatic effect of being sure that it’s impossible, but seeing it happen anyway, with all the elements connecting at exactly the right moment against the odds, is one the greatest moments in cinema. As for the other movies, I can’t comment, but I think the general point holds true with some movies.

First, if George was never born, do you think Harry would have been sledding with a bunch of older kids where he would fall in the ice? The Joker flaw: yes I agree it's a contradiction: he says he doesn't have a plan, but obviously he does...BUT I don't see this as a flaw in the movie! Rather: Joker was lying to Harvey, to deceive him into becoming evil. And it worked. Kinda like Joker saying: Whaaa?? You blame me for killing your girlfriend? I guess I did, but really it's not my fault, do I look like I am a man with a plan? No way, I'm just a crazy guy wearing clown make up! If anyone is to blame it's the people who make plans (everyone else). So actually, that line DOES indeed sum up the Joker perfectly. Although it doesn't explain how, also in the considered canon Matrix MMO there were humans who didn't want to side with Zion or the Machines, and had their own private hidden terminals. It is assumed that these people sided with the Merovingian and probably stayed plugged in for very extended lengths of time, however. They wanted to remain in the matrix like Cypher, however they didn't want to forget and be able to bend the system like the Zionists. The "truce" didn't last horribly long as a cold war standoff occurred with handfuls of other parties being introduced and screwing things up.

You all are forgetting the main purpose they go back into the matrix. They are constantly searching for more people to unplug. They go in all the time. The meeting with the agent could have started as a meeting of a "candidate" as we know agents can assume anyone at anytime.

And it wouldn't work. Most people's brains don't have enough processing power to even do their own thinking, let alone loan some out to augment a computer. Processing power for wetware works a bit differently than for hardware. As a grossly over-simplified analogy, your central processing unit does not have the computational capability to render all the shit on screen that you see in the time it takes to refresh the entire screen, no matter what is being displayed. Similarly, your video card does not have the computational capability to search a database and update memory registers that keep track of all the stuff that its drawing on screen, sixty plus times a second, either. They both crunch numbers in different ways, so that they can get their different jobs done effectively. The video card thinks about numbers differently and has a tool set (as well as parallel processing tracks) that lets it work really fast with enormous volumes of data; whereas the CPU thinks about numbers in a way that allows it to do many different things with those numbers, but not quite as fast. Human brains are amazingly good at certain kinds of computational tasks, but really bad at others. If I asked you to give me the square root of 9, you might take a second to remember the answer or you might have to write down a few tests to get to the correct answer. It's not a problem of "wouldn't work" because "people don't have enough processing power"; it's a problem of not working because we're analog but they (machines as we understand them) are digital.
@TonyHammitt
@TonyHammitt 7 жыл бұрын
I was mostly calling out stupid people... Our brains are ours and they can do the things they can do fairly effectively, but they're really bad at sharing information. We're good at pattern recognition, which, if you could tap that, could be good for some processing functions of the machines. But the machines would have to plant the images into the brains in ways that everyone could agree on symbolization to such an extent that they could later use your pattern recognition skills to help maintain the illusion of a world. That seems cumbersome and hard to get started. I think it's simpler to write off the "energy extraction" as a plot device based entirely on fantasy world physics.

There is another plot hole in the matrix. Why would the Machines let those that left the matrix live in the first place? Answer: no one leaves the matrix at all. If you listen to the Architect some people need to believe that they are free for the system to work. Also the original idea was for the humans to be extra memory storage, but the studio wouldn't go for that so it got changed.

Really good point about "Toy Story"! If I was to try and explain this away, though, I'd say something like this: the Star Command (?) that Buzz belongs to is probably pretty analogous to The Federation from "Star Trek", and probably has its own version of the Prime Directive. It isn't so crazy that it might include a "when in Rome" provision or something like that. Which is to say that whenever possible, when you find yourself interacting with a new civilization, you should assume that civilization gas more experience with it's environment than you do, and therefore you should try to emulate their behavior, even if it doesn't to make sense, because of it could be a survival adaptation. So maybe Buzz is only to freezing in Andy's presence we because he sees everyone else doing it and assumed it it's essential to survival where he is.

Its called the 'ripple effect' and used several times through the franchise. Marty being born LAST would mean he would be LAST to disappear as the ripple effect has to go from 1955 to the latest point in time in the future. Look at it this way. Throw a stone into a pool of water and it causes ripples. Those ripples reach out from a central point to the very end of the pool of water before they stop. The last ripple caused (Marty) would be the last ripple to reach the edge pf that pool (1985) of water. That is the ripple effect. Its really not that difficult to understand.

I tend to agree with this--that it was involuntary on some level and he might not even have fully realized he was doing it or been consciously aware of being played with while limp. Cypher in the Matrix is actually extremely easy to understand. You could absolutely "pre-program" an entry and exit from the Matrix with literally any programming skill whatsoever, entry and exit are accomplished in seconds by a few keystrokes by an Operator, based on permanently placed entry and exit points. The point of having an Operator is to allow for spontaneity in the event that a plan changes or a new need arises. Its the equivalent of having a program that automatically opens Excel at 2:00 PM, then automatically closes it at 3:00 PM, but can't do anything else. The only difference between that and having an "operator" present is that the Operator can spend an hour inputting information into the Excel, and choose not to close it until 3:05 PM.

*SPOILER ALERT* The biggest problem with Looper was, that the Rainmaker was the person why Bruces Willis wife was killed. BW traveled back in time to kill the Rainmaker only to realise, that the Rainmaker was a little boy, who becomes the Rainmaker, because BW killed his mother. But in the original time line BWs younger self killed his future self. So he couldnt be the reason that the boy becomes the Rainmaker. In this case, there are only two options: 1. The boy wasn't the Rainmaker at all, so killing himself makes no difference and no sense. 2. The boy will become the Rainmaker because of another reason, so killing himself makes no sense. The ending of the movie, the complete story of the movie simply makes no sense at all.

In Back to the Future, they made a point of saying "at exactly 10:04 lightning struck that clock tower and it hasn't worked since." So Marty would tell Doc in 55 that, so he would know 10:04:00 was the time to use. Bigger problem is Marty leaving the start line late and just happens to drive at the perfect speed above what he was supposed to, to make up the difference and be at the exact spot at the precise time.
