You looked so beautiful in that red dress, Sabrah. It turns out, there are more than ten words that can be followed after the verb "set" such as off, in, apart, out, on, back, up, aside, about, to, upon, against, forward, forth, by, at, and down as well. For example, set off, set in, set apart, set out, set on, set up, set aside, set about, set to, set upon, set against, set forward, set forth, set by, set at, and set down. The verb "set" is wonderful. I shall try making the phrasal verbs in a sentence. Please correct me if I'm wrong (pcmiiw), Sabrah. 1. We set off some chemical reactions in the lab. 2. She set in the sleeve of her gown at that time. 3. I think the character traits that set her apart. 4. He set out to know why the project had failed. 5. She is absolutely set on publishing as a career. 6. All their efforts at reform have been set back. 7. The travellers set up a camp on the river bank. 8. They set aside a few hours a week for exercise. 9. The managers have set about making decisions. 10. Did they set to work to paint the big building?

1. To set off - to leave to go somewhere usually for a longer journey. We need to catch our plane by 8 o’clock so we need to set off early. Shall we set off for the walk now then? To make something ring or explode. The terrorists set off the bomb. Something set off my car alarm last night. To start/ instigate something. The wall street crash set off a chain of events which led to the great depression. 2. To set in - when something takes hold and starts to happen and have an effect, and is not likely to stop for a long time (usually unpleasant). The winter has really set in. 3. Set apart - to make someone or something different or special or to keep something separate in order to use it for a particular purpose. His experience at Nasa really set him apart from the other candidates. This area of the university has been set apart just for the students. 4. Set out - also can be used to depart or start a journey. If you set out to do something you intend to accomplish or achieve something. The principal of the school set out to make his grammar school the best. Lay out/ show or display. The CEO is going to set out his plans for the company in the coming year. When the building plans were set out I began to understand how it would work. 5. Set on - To be set on something to be determined, to be fixed on something (we use with the verb to be). He’s really set on becoming an actor. Leila and Sabrah are set on reaching 1 million subscribers. Are you set on something? 6. Set back - a setback, or to be set back, something which delays the progress of something or someone. We were set back a lot when we started the business. The bad weather has set back the building works. The ring Andy bought his girlfriend must have set him back a few thousand ££ 7. Set up - to start or open something such as a business, organisation, or institution. She set up the first charity to help with gender equality. 8. Set aside - to keep or save something from a larger amount or supply in order to use it later for a particular purpose. I’ve set aside the good cutlery for when we have special guests. 9. Set about - to start doing something such as a task or activity. She set about doing the housework he set about doing the shopping. The teenagers set about cleaning the house before their parents arrived home. 10. Set to - to start doing something in a determined or enthusiastic way. They set to cleaning and decorating the house.

Hi Sabrah, An interesting lesson about phrasal verbs with multiple meanings. I admire your suggestions and learn more new phrasal. Some examples: 1. The sun was already up when they set off. 2. The firm's accounts need to set in order. 3. Set aside a period of time specifically for study. 4. His life was set on an irrevocable course. 5. A team of volunteers set about the task with determination 6. The fishermen set out at sunset for a night's fishing. Thank you.

set up can be also used as coming 1:to make two people have a date for example :John set me up with Rachal yesterday and we hit it off. 2: to set sth up means to organize it for example: Help me in setting the table up! 3:A setup as a noun means a deception made to fool someone or kill. for example: it was a setup and we got captured by the enemy .
@LoveEnglishwithLeilaSabrah4 жыл бұрын
Yes 1 and 3 are correct but set up a room can be to organise it or set up a studio or a workshop but we don't say set up the table - we just say set the table. 😉

Hi Sabrah! Why do you use infinitive after the verb "set out" if there is the rule that if a verb is followed by a verb with a preposition, then it should be used in the gerund form? some examples When will you give up smoking? She always puts off going to the dentist.
@LoveEnglishwithLeilaSabrah4 жыл бұрын
Yes sometimes we break that rule when it comes to phrasal verbs - with set about and set out they are both followed by infinitives. But good question 👍

@@LoveEnglishwithLeilaSabrah Make a video only to cover vocabulary and stuff.Please avoid talking about death toll though unfortunately death toll has climbed to 3100 in china.Do you know that i'm from india,A country, ruled by britishers for nearly 200years however recently our economy supressed your economy and became World's 5th largest economy.We have the second largest english speaking population closed followed by the U.S however most of the people speak english as their second langauge.I enjoy speaking english and never get tired of that.I uttlery hate the fact that our(indian english) is being americanised super fast.We follow british english and have somewhat our own english words too like foothpath not sidewalk,Brinjal not aubergine or eggplant,Lady's finger not okra,Pendrive not flashdrive,Highway not motorway or expressway,Bike is used for motorbike not for bicyle,Medical store as drugstore,Speed braker as speed hump,Toilet and bathroom has completely different meaning and same with flat and apartment,holiday and vacation and we can't use them interchangeably.I recently noticed that indians are starting to use american words and those british words that we've been using this whole time sound a bit old fashioned to them like airplane instead of aeroplane,Cellphone instead of mobilphone,elevator as lift,eraser as rubber,flat tire as punture,Overpass as flyover and it is also happening the other way around like jumper instead of sweater,Queue instead of line and manymore.I just want my english never get changed and stay same.I don't hold any grudges against our american friends.Peaceeee fellas
