I am sure that being wealthy from football helped to get things going more easily but to turn that wealth into something worth $28bn requires a good idea, good execution and probably some luck too. Probably flew under the radar because he is a New Zealander - Tim Brown (former captain of Wellington Phoenix, and played for New Zealand at 2010 world cup) retired at age 30 and co-founded the Allbirds shoe company, which is now valued at $1.4 billion. Probably more successful than anyone else on this list, especially since the A-League salary would have given him way less seed money to start his company.

a lot of this doesnt really point to wealth generation - gyan's stuff all sound like failing investments. Sun Jihai's has no financials associated with it, other than the value of the PE firm, which has no reflection upon his wealth. Owen having 1 horse win 1 mm in prize winnings isn't that much when all costs of racing / horse management are factored in. the top 3 or 4 are interesting, but i feel like there are loads of footballers who should've been on here. Beckham - all his endorsements / general celebrity post playing career has probs seen him pocket 10s of millions.
