When writing the negative of a number, it helps to write it higher than on the same line as the various operations. For example, the absolute value looked like 1 - 71.

Yes 1-71, that is how I took it. You don't need the confusion of PEMDAS if you write a formula correctly. Why did you not use brackets ?

In the upper line when you multiplied the 4squared x -2 you ended with -8, which I agree with, yet when you have value of -7 x 3 in the lower line, you end up with 21 and not -21 please explain.

Dang! I got it right. Math is not my best subject, but I remembered a negative absolute value becomes a postive from many years ago, and I followed the order of operations.

unlike the cubic equations you have this is super easy and I will NOT be calling for uncle like i did on the last one. Ok first things first. Step 1: numerator is 10 + (16 / -2) which is 10 - 8 and gives us 2 for the numerator. Step 2: Denominator is the absolute value of -7 this essentially means get rid of the negative sign so you have 7 * 3 which is 21. This gives us the final answer of 2/21

Absolute Value of -7 threw me. I thought the denominator was 1 - 71 * 3. I got -212 for the denominator. There should be a way to differentiate Absolute Value for the number 1.

helps if you read the title of the video :) seriously though a point well made and yeah it can be confusing. Which is why my old teacher always used 1 as it appears there with the little hook on it. It keeps you from confusing I or l for it.

No it doesn't. There's nothing wrong with the way it's written. There's no harm in putting the -2 in parentheses. It doesn't change anything so you can do it if you want. But it's not necessary.
