If he was himself an important member of a branch of Formalism, why did he criticize the scientific approach of Formalism? Rene Wellek: "The formalists essentially chose a technical, scientific approach to literature which may appeal to our time but ultimately would dehumanize art and destroy criticism. It seems to me, for instance, an error to believe that “novelty” is the only criterion of value in the process of history. " It was there on some website. 😔
