The Stag in the green bottle is a completely different beer brand brewed in Trinidad. The American Stag is brewed by PBR.

Rheingold actually had the first lite beer called Gablingers. When they decided not to continue with the brand, they allowed the developer to take his formula it with him and sell it to whomever. Miesterbrau was the one that took it on and then sold it to Miller. That's the rest of the story.

I wish you went more into the taste and the signifigance these different beers had on the legacy of beer in amsrican brewing history. Its amazing how beer was almost dominated by german american immigrants that stsrted in the 1870s-90's but especially in the 80's like hodenpohl mentioned. Then as american capitalism and industrialisation took full hold of the beer industry in the 1970's and 80's. Now if you want an affordable lager your left with a very small number of nationally sold options, or very expensive smaller brewies. Gone mostly is cheap affordable high quality lagers and other similar style beers that rely on quality of ingredients (especialy water quality) that the big brands cant produce. One side of my family emigrated from Germany in the 1880s and started a bakery that became one of the largest in Pittsburgh, but thanks to the start of the grocery store and cheap factory produced bread deman dropped and americans chose to sacrifice quality for convenience and perceived cost.

I’ve heard of some other breweries, Dubuque Star-IA, Richbrau-VA, Tivoli-CO, Kingsbury-WI, and Haffenreffer-MA.
