Nice story, I am a 67 year old New Yorker and have been fishing a long time and have yet to break the 5 lb mark and it's story's and the tug on the line that keeps me fishing. I am going to retire to Florida and am excited knowing it could very well happen there . Love your videos keep them coming! Tight lines, Jim Clouser.

Love these kinds of stories. My "undergunned" tale took place when I lived in Tracy and spent a considerable amount of time walking the bank at Whiskey Slough during high tide and throwing spinnerbaits over the weed beds (tough to bank fish the Delta unless there is some water over the weeds). One day I was doing fairly well with a couple of nice fish in the 3 to 4 lb. class when I noticed a big school of crappie between the inside weedline and the bank. I only had a couple of big spinnerbaits with me so it was no go on the crappie that time. This was a late afternoon high tide. Next morning I returned at the tops of the tide again, only this time "armed" with a light spinning rod, 4 lb. mono and a handful of 1/16 oz. crappie jigs. Of course there wasn't a crappie in sight. What the neck..... may as well try anyway, maybe they're hanging out just inside the weedline????? Well, of course you know what happened next! Yep. On about my third or fourth dip an open mouth big enough to palm a basketball slowly swam out of the weeds, engulfed that bitty maribou crappie jig, turned leaving a boil in the water like the flushing of King Kong's toilet and casually swam home to her snug weedy sanctuary. Of course I don't know just how big that bass was but it EASILY went into double digits. I only actually saw it for maybe 4 or 5 second, but then again it was only about 6 feet from me and the water inside the weedline was crystal clear. I am guessing 12 or 13 lbs. but that really doesn't matter. You know I had that bass on for maybe 7 or 8 minutes and I honestly believe it never even realized it was hooked. It would swim a foot this way, then a couple of feet that way every couple of minutes but she surely wasn't acting concerned. Naturally she finally broke the line. I think this ending actually made a better memory for me than it would had if I had somehow landed that fish
@tacticalbassin7 жыл бұрын
Crazy! Glad its a good memory for you!

Man I like it----when you listen to an accomplished fisherman you assume they come out of the womb with a rod and reel in one hand and a ten pounder lipped in the other. What you are listening to is the truth--we all have to learn as we go. This makes me want to go fishin--its even the bad days (fiasco) that makes us better fishermen. Thanks for the story.

Have you ever tried bumping the bait on the bass? i do that when they don't bite and it piss them off faster so they bite my bait all the time.
@tacticalbassin7 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. Some fish respond really positively to it but be aware that if she doesn't seem interested after the first bump it can actually completely shut the fish down. It just depends on the particular fish's personality.

I recently got to go out bass fishing and I was chucking a swim bait around. In one of your video descriptions it said you use 65lb braid and 20lb maxima ultra green as a leader for throwing swim baits. I don't throw super heavy swimbaits so I just use a Fenwick elite tech bass 7'5" heavy paired with a shimano curado 200 I I make all my leaders just shorter than the length of the rod but I found that with the 65lb braid and the 20lb mono I couldn't get the knot the joins the two to pass through the top guide very well. What knot do you guys use to prevent this. Also is it just because I don't have a actual swim bait rod that the guides are slightly smaller. I ended up just making my leader about 1ft long so I never had to reel the knot through and of the guides when I had to make a cast. Definitely not the preferred way because that leader would get used up very quick. Thanks for any suggestions. I really appreciate the help.

I'm sure it is, I'd love to see you guys do a video on that sometime, but all the stuff you guys put out is gold. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! I know there's no substitute for time on the water, but you're definitely making the art form more accessible.
