Today I want to chat about the worst questions I get asked about blindness. You all seem to love the list videos, so this is some of the rudest, weirdest, most common intrusive questions people ask me about my blindness. What's the rudest question you've ever been asked?

The audacity of people. So stupid. I just came across this video and I finally got my answer that only a moron would ask- if you want to touch their face?? I was a makeup artist for 20 yrs (and I just applied for a job with AIRA). Nothing tells you about what someone actually looks like by touching there face. The features are too small. You can tell if they have good skin or acne by texture etc. BUT THAT’S IT. Finally I have confirmation!

I have had people tell me randomly when they see I'm disabled "God did this to punish you" like bro I'm just out having dinner with my friend. Have had the other side people praying to save me and cure me. Just really weird I'm not even their religion not they can tell that but these are strangers and interrupt my life to ither scold or pitty me when I just going out to eat or go get groceries.

God did this to punish you? What?! Wow, that’s a very rude thing to say. I have Septo Optic Dysplasia, which caused me to be born totally blind and it also caused me to be on the autism spectrum, and it also caused me a few other things, I also have complex PTSD. And if someone said this to me, OH. LET ME TELL YOU RIGHT NOW, I’D HAVE TO REALLY CONTROL MYSELF TO BITE MY TONGUE! Because it would take all I had not to say something even rude to the person that said that to me! Bullies don’t hurt me anymore, but if someone were to say this to me, it would be the most stupidest thing I would’ve heard in my life.

@@siennaprice1351 ya it used to shock me but now is just so normal to me I just leave and say nothing. It's vary odd. My religion has no real difference on disabled or not everyone plays their own role in the community to what works best for them and their own goals and choices everyone is tought/trained the same but imcuriged to find what place they want. So the idea things punish you before birth some how or to walk up to random people to ask something from their deiti is mind boggling and rude for one should never just assume you can do more harm then good. You go the person you need for help not them to you for everyone has their own space and needs. So vary odd and makes me not want to go out from my house or tribe

Not only that, but when they ask you to pray for you, it kind of makes you feel like you’re not good enough in a way or at least it did me the people that asked me because they asked me and I said no thank you and they just kept asking and asking and asking

Yes, I've also had that happen many times unfortunately. I have no problem with people's beliefs or how they want to practice their religion, but I don't like when someone assumes you want or need their prayers or tries to force their beliefs on you.

Hi. I’m a blind kid, I’m 14 years old and I always get this FAQS. To me it’s pretty Normal, I even make jokes about it and I take it with humor. I am a musician and some people have asked me how do you know which string to play? And I sometimes make a joke I am not really blind but sometime I just Answer that I think I just know it by memory or I don’t even know how to answer that question sometimes. To me the one about how do you know when to stop wiping it’s very dumb, but I just take it with humor

I have been deaf for nearly 30 years and recently I had damage to my remaining good eye! The doctors now say it will not improve much if any and I have been getting used to using a white cane mainly at night & in poor light! The doctor when seeing me said ah mr Taylor the deafblind person! I just sat & cried to hear someone call me that! And going to a shop I go to all the time but this time using my cane I could hear them saying to each other he must be faking as he usually comes in without a cane! Deafblindness is a spectrum! I am not totally blind or profoundly deaf! I can use a mobile phone with the zoom 100% & hear the phone when turned up full! Being officially deafblind has knocked my confidence for six! I still sit & cry! But this is my life now & I don't need people being nosey! I will tell them when I am ready like on here! 🧡🧡

I am visually impaired. I am so use to hearing some of these questions that I forget that they are weird XD. Others have VERY creative ways of asking the "What happened to you?" question. Most recent person to ask me sounded so disappointed after getting my answer. "I was kind of hoping it would be some big awesome thing like, you got hit in the head by an object, or you busted something or something. You literally just woke up like this." And I'm just like..."You were HOPING??" XD Wtf??

That would be annoying to hear. I hate the assumption that blindness is so horrible. I literally had someone tell me one time, “I would rather lose my other leg, then become blind.” That person had one leg that did not work well, but still…

Hello, awesome video! Thank you for putting this video out there. One question I don’t like is: “I see you’re with another blind person, do you guys live together?” Or, there might be the assumption that is spoken out loud: “Your brother is just up ahead here, in front of you.” I then have to explain to them that he’s actually my friend.

I've definitely had that experience too! The unwanted commentary can get old really fast. Either they assume you know every blind person they've ever met, or are completely overcome that there could possibly be two blind people together for some reason.

someone once asked me if i knew molly burke. i was like, um... no. seriously, the questions people ask. no one needs to know peoples' medical history etc. and how do you know when to stop wiping... why on earth would someone even want to know that?

Ok. I admit that some people can ask intrusive questions like «how you wipe your butt» and other stupid sh*t. Sometimes people doesn’t have filter between their small brain and big mouth. But «how you’re not killed yourself»?! How someone can be so rude and disrespectful? What the hell? My jaw dropped…

I got asked by a delivery driver the other day if I was drunk because I looked intoxicated, then he asked if I had a disability. And the delivery service did nothing to him. I told him to f off.

I‘m not blind, but I have type 1 diabetic so I‘m very familiar with all these hurtful questions or things healthy people say to you. The worst one was when a ‚friend‘ of mine said that he could never live with my condition. Life is still worth living. I hate how people always assume your life has less value because of it. Thank you! Funny you mention that. I’ve been teaching violin and other musical instruments for more than 15 years. But I have considered teaching at the post secondary level just haven’t found that ONE thing that I want to teach yet. :)

I have been totally blind since the age of 12 and I have to tell you getting irritated about being asked questions only slows the process down. It is truly better to acknowledge ignorant questions and try to get the best answer possible and just keep moving. I think if we give negative responses, we only create more, fear of the most fear disability, which is vision loss or blindness. I think we also give truth to the fact that blind people are rude or blind people are etc.. I just don’t think we are open the door again generosity dictates social etiquette dictates if we want accessibility to Open doors for us we have to educate people and a lot of times that means answering dealing with an educating people even on the stupid questions you sit here and tell people they shouldn’t ask. Why don’t you teach them what they should because I damn sure know what it’s like to be blind and I understand that, but I also am professional guitarist high school music teacher and I have three masters degrees being totally blind never slowed me down in those aspects. I may have other areas where my life is Complicated, certainly in transport especially where I’m at in Richmond Virginia is tough but I tell you I don’t think you’re really hitting the issues that the blind person of today needs to talk about those questions were a problem in 1980 there always going to be a problem do you understand that is fear generated ignorant questions you’re not gonna educate the world and I don’t care if you’re on every KZbin channel there is people are going to ask. I had someone ask me one time if the harness for my seeing dog was, a back brace for the dogs back I was in a McDonald’s. I was 19 years old so almost 31 years ago at this point I took the opportunity to educate this lady. She ended up donating $4 million to guiding us for the blind where I lived and worked with class in 1992 while I was involved with Sharon, the veterinary technician people watching the show that have been around and are blind, we do not know each other but certainly there are links to certain organizations ACB NFB, etc. I think you need to address more issues dealing with social problems blind people face today damn the questions really I get your frustration. I’m compassionate to it. I’m just saying we’ve been arguing that point and these things for years, we’ve beaten that horse let’s move onto the next thing and try to get acceptance and ear to listen and offer accessibility and patience and empathy by going at it from another approach let’s don’t tell them what not to do. Let’s don’t tell them they’re ignorant start up with every person. I know it’s long-winded. I know it’s frustrating but I promise you God wants us to be patient. He wants us to educate others. My wife died five years ago and she’s been her whole life as a psychologist and she worked on accessibility as well as counseling people and I promise she died fighting similar things that you’re talking about and helping people with themthink blind people have to get over these BS issues and move onto the Dictating what they should and shouldn’t say you just can’t. I’m trying to tell you you’re young and I love your energy but as a 49-year-old blind man I’m telling you now these are not issues. You’re going to conquer, but there are certainly a whole lot that you can you mentioned a few, but I think the general focus of what you’re talking about is just too harsh. I think you have Expectations for a public understand things they can’t and don’t want to remember they are afraid of being blind, it is the most fear disability. We are only about 4.7% of the population understand that when educating like I said you are sharp I can tell and I’m assuming you are blind based on the way you talk of course I can’t see you, but I can certainly hear you and I do hear your complaints, darling. You’re doing the right thing. I just think you got Shifter topics how hard it is in the dating world for a widowed blind man look at how hard it is in the job world. You know these are things we need to focus on because AI or artificial intelligence is destroying the careers, including mine as a professional guitarist, it is destroying careers blind people have worked years to obtain areas where we are strong as we diversify and overcome job titles like metal subscription or prescription, excuse my dictation as I am blind lol my point is there’s a lot to overcome. I just wish we all could work together a little harder the NFB the ACB, but the fact is those organizations are not focused on these issues that you want to deal with and I think five of your points are great. I think five of them are on, not really an option. I just don’t think you can change those things but I know I wish you the best in your videos continue with your tenacity and God bless you. I remember when I had that energy and you’re doing great words but only because I want you to listen and see that these aren’t that major in the scheme of things.

Awareness according to sighted friends of mine sighted people don't look when wiping in the bathroom which amazes me that they don't know how we do it when they literally do it the exact same way! I usually answer the sex question with "great thanks" just because I'm very sarcastic and it annoys people because that's not what they meant by that question

Oh no…not the “how many fingers?” questionnnnnn. I had a friend (no longer my friend) who always asked that…now I have friends who always ask how far and how much I can see, but they are doing it in a kind way because they just want to help me. If my friends ever see this I love you guys. Oh and for the “can I feel your face” thing…ok so in grade 4, I had come back from either speech therapy or a Braille lesson, and I had gloves on for some reason. The room was super dark so I couldn’t rly see anything, and when I was close to my desk, I felt something ahead of me, and I started touching it. Since I had gloves on, I could not tell what it was. Then I heard my friend Steven’s voice. “Zara, you’re touching my face.” LOL that was so awkward…but it’s honestly one of my favourite memories of grade 4. That was the school year that covid happened, so I didn’t make very many memories that year.

I am definitely #9, even though I'm not blind. I can see skin tone, possible cultural heritage/nationality just fine, and I'm legit just as confused as you are as to why people place so much stock on these attributes. It's like I was plopped on a world of aliens where skin tone, your gender affiliation, and cultural heritage is not only everything, but people NEED to know so they can discriminate accordingly. And with pleasure. They will hound you, and hound you, and hound you, and hound you until they get their clear answer. Even on the internet, people are starting to mark themselves with color coded emojis, flags, and other forms of "lingo" with the emoji layout, and if you don't in certain circles, you are held with suspicion. I think deep down, some people don't want to be caught dead benefitting someone who they may have some deep, hard-wired, tribal bias towards, in any way. So of course, a screening is necessary. My brain just doesn't compute, and people will honestly treat you like you're slow, naïve, or lying if you're not on this strange dance and uptake.

The question about sex is not only inappropriate because of the visual impaired conitation, but also because of religious and cultural practices worldwide. Different people worldwide have different ways of doing things and they don't want to share personal information. If you asked this in the Middle East, which is where I'm from, even the non religious people would think bad of you, most of them, of course, and the religious people might think even worse of you for asking such things. I think part of the reason why this happens is because in modern day culture worldwide, it's become fassionable to talk about sex e.g. techniques to try in the bedroom etc etc. A lot of people talk about their sex problems on public forums which is not appropriate as it creates a lot of bad things between people, Not only that but most people wouldn't be qualified to answer those questions. If you really have sex problems in your relationship, speak to a medical professional privately who can deal with these issues, or someone who you really can trust and who will keep the information private.

8:32 I disagree: 1. If you want to find partner you have to know center. (often you can hear it though) Very rarely it doesn't matter. 2. Some topics are rude to talk about with some of the races. Same way as this video tell what are rude questions to blind person. 3. Some cultural differences you just have to know. e.g. Offer hamburger to Hindu or pork to Muslim.

I went through school when I was in primary and secondary loads of students out of my mind person who helped me with the Brown thought I was deaf as well and I didn’t like that and they kept on saying oh she’s blind I know but I don’t don’t get that at my new store because it’s a school revenge of disabled people and I like it I know when did they ask me if you don’t question a question but they don’t do you say in Spanish my old school and I love straw know that go to school that I went to for six form and I love the story Siri I don’t like the new store that I go to people with disabilities
