We better see a test for racket diminishing returns - racket prices of 10, 50, 100, 150, 200 all strung the same with your preferred strings. Next test could be the other way around - your preferred racket and then varying strings at your preferred tension.

i feel if you re testing string quality you should do so with same tension. since the accuracy test results were decided by tension and not the string quality itself

We chose to test “string” as a whole - otherwise we would have to test many more combinations and it would be very confusing 🙈

stringing original sellers strings at higher tensions just turns them into a vibrating mess, nigh unplayable without a whole roll of cushion wrap(exaggerating)
@davidp9316Күн бұрын
Thanks for doing this! Most important factor is the cost. As a high school student there was no way my parents could buy me a $250 racket and $35 string (Canada). Lower barrier is the string so I got a medium racket and good strings which still would have been half the cost of the good racket alone. I’ve always said strings are more important for most people because of play quality but mostly for cost.

It would be amazing if you could make another video with an amateur player testing and rating the setups. Maybe you could try it with three setups: 1) a pro racket with pro string, 2) an intermediate racket with pro string, and 3) a beginner racket with pro string. Thanks for the valuable content!

Hi Greg, What tension would you recommend for playing with Nylon Shuttles like Mavis 300?
@JLneonhugКүн бұрын
Nothing more than 25-26lbs.
@martyrofgrenth2136Күн бұрын
Not sure about specific tension, but probably what JLneonhug said would be good. Since the nylon shuttles are a lot harder on the strings compared to the feather ones, if you go higher you'll drastically increase the chances of breaking the strings.
@LNG_3Күн бұрын
@@martyrofgrenth2136 it's actually the other way around. You snap strings way faster with feather than Nylon because Nylon is a lot lighter and doesn't have the same "feel" as feather. I use 27 lbs with feather, but with Nylon I would only go up to 24 lbs.

@@BadmintonInsightDo you think all factory strung tensions are too low for sat a club/league player? Should you always get a racket restrung after buying one (I know you guys as pros would, but I mean for us average players)
@martyrofgrenth2136Күн бұрын
@@mattpotter8725 I would say it's much preferable to restring a racket when you buy it, I'd wager the tension is inconsistent from one racket to another and in general it's just really low.. Also in a sense you don't know how long the strings were on the racket or if they were even slightly damaged in shipping/handling. You could say it's almost there for the aesthetics of having the strings on. Even if you go with just 18-20lbs for example that would be much much better than factory tension and more even throughout the racket.

@mattpotter8725Күн бұрын
I know you can't do everything and every combination as you'd be there all day and the video very, very long, but i do wonder if the attributes you scored were all equal, in which i mean as a player accuracy is more important than power or speed is more important than accuracy (if you lose points because you can't respond to say a smash quickly enough when defending to stay in a point this is worse than having a racket where you can smash well, because you rarely are getting to the stage in points where you get these kind of chances). As someone just getting back into badminton, and having old rackets (though i am planning on getting them restrung soon) I guess I'm just going to have to play with decent strings in a mid range racket as there's no way i can afford £200 rackets (is £150 really mid range these days, wow)!!!
@BadmintonInsightКүн бұрын
Haha yes if we included every combination then I think the video would have taken 12 hours to film, and been about 2 hours long 🫣 To be honest, all aspects are important. In your example - you might think it was you can’t respond to a smash quickly enough (racket speed) but maybe you could have if you lifted the previous shot with better power & accuracy! So whilst some aspects might initially be thought of as “lacking speed” it might actually be a lack of power or accuracy if you look 1 shot further back. Those 3 attributes that we rated in the video are the 3 that we typically look for in a racket/string combination 👍🏼 Hope that all makes sense ☺️

The video is a lot of fun, but the experiment is faulty. There are three factors involved right now, which are the racquets, the strings and the tension. Right now I’m unsure if the results are a result of the tension difference, racquet difference, or string difference. For this experiment, both racquets should have used the cheap string and the Victor string and all at the same tension. So each test should have been run four times.
@BadmintonInsight8 сағат бұрын
We don't see how the experiment is faulty - like the video title and intro says, we wanted to test if a $10 racket with good strings (aka a thin string with tight tension) was better or worse than a $200 racket with bad strings (aka a thick string with low tension)... Surely putting these 2 racket/string combinations in a 'head to head' like we did, is the best way to test what is better out of these 2 combinations? 🤔
