it's just so intense, you can tell that Jeremy really took note of the horrific experience Clyde would have had in jail and he emotes it so amazingly here. I also love to compare his portrayal of a character like Clyde Barrow to his famous role of Jack Kelly- both dreamers but with such different intent and personality. You know you've got a talented actor when he can perform two roles so individually.

"So let's raise a little hell" is all one breath at the end of the song. How is that possible? In what world?
@amandachristensen1757
@amandachristensen1757 7 жыл бұрын
Lots of practice, or breathing exercises. If you sing the song or focus on just the last, hold it for as long as you can and practice pushing yourself to hold a bit longer each time. Eventually if you practice it enough you might be able to do it

I just love how much rougher and sort of... out of control he sounds in this one (and to a lesser extent Too Late to Turn Back Now, when Bonnie threatened to leave). You can hear the desperation and panic.

fun fact: during clyde's time in that prison, there were prisoners selected to be guards in the prison (one being ed crowder, clyde's abuser), and they would abuse the other prisoners. if the workers did not do enough work or do their work good enough, then they'd be beat. because of that, prisoners would cut off toes to get out of work, including clyde who asked another prisoner to cut off two of his toes, giving clyde a limp

I thought one of the reasons he cut off two of his toes was to be transferred to the same prison/block as Buck

@starlesseyes5713
@starlesseyes5713 4 жыл бұрын
Emmery Says Hi yeah and he really only killed cops that were trying to kill/arrest him or civilians that were trying to help the cops. They only killed a total of 13 people, maybe less, since they always got accused of crimes they didn't commit. He really didn't like killing people and would rather kidnap them, then drop them off somewhere with money to get back home. Its really an interesting story, but it's been blown way out of proportion.
@emmerysayshi125
@emmerysayshi125 4 жыл бұрын
@@starlesseyes5713 I know their story is fascinating. And in this song one of the lines is "Never killed, but now I have to" meaning he only did it because there wasn't another option. I don't believe Clyde was a murderer at heart. And that prison changed him. Obviously I'm no historian, but it's definitely a cool story.

Long story short, a combination of a relatively poorly-timed opening, critics in general being incredibly wary of Frank Wildhorn, less-than-stellar marketing, and neither Jeremy Jordan nor Laura Osnes necessarily being thought of as the stars they are now (or would become even just a few months later in JJ's case).

[CLYDE] I can't take no more of this This nightmare has to end In this godforsaken place Death would be a welcome friend I could pay a crooked guard To kill me, yeah, that's it Better that than sixteen years Dyin' slowly bit by bit All I did was rob a few stores Justice here don't fit the crime I've been broken by the devil Justice is a waste of time I won't get to heaven Why not raise a little hell He'll see me, but it's the last time That filthy scum has got to go By tonight, it will be over When I strike the fatal blow No way out, I gotta do this Him or me, okay, let's play Never killed, but now I have to Time to make Ed Crowder pay I won't get to heaven Why not raise a little hell No way I'll see heaven So let's raise a little hell
