I LOVE cathars' crusade, and it used to be in basically every white commander deck I have, but I ended up cutting it out of most of my decks in the interest of making my brain hurt less trying to keep track of that many counters on tokens that I didn't have physical tokens for and used dice to represent them. And the amount of dice needed to put the counters on things, my brain is hurting just thinking about it 😅

Horn of Gondor is indeed the horn in question. I run it in an Arabella casual commander deck and just added Cathars' Crusade to my wishlist for that deck - it would break the condition of my commander (creatures under 2 power), but win the game, so I guess that's worth the tradeoff!

The Death Spark might be maybe useful in decks like ie. Ojer Axonil. That would turn in into real card. Or maybe something like Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin. Repeatable 1 damage could be nice source of card advange. Although these days there are probably better cards for both.

I'd say those OG duals are a straight 9.9. Only downside is yeah they can be hit by some targeted land removal and maybe some duals might be better in some specific decks i.e lifegain duals for those lifegain decks to trigger all their nonsense.

Yeah, it’s kinda hypocritical WOTC went after Crusade but not Cathar’s Crusade (which is named after an actual religious genocide), but if I had to guess, it’s probably due to CC actually being a valuable card that sees active play (it has also been in precons). If they banned it, there would be an uproar, and they know it. Definitely contradictory of them, but that just shows how much WOTC actually cares about these things.

Wasn't the offensive flavor banning of crusade done in like 1994-95 alongside demonic hordes, jihad etc? Cathar Crusade is much newer and I think people cared a lot less about a fantasy card game hurting people's feelings. So I see as less hypocrisy and more changing times.

It's not that the word "crusade" is banned, its that the original references an actual historical event whos imagery also has religious and/or racial connotations. Combine that with the fact the card buffs "white" creatures it makes sense to ban it just to prevent opportunities for some really shitty people to make some racially charged jokes at a magic table, which is meant to be inclusive. "Cathar's Crusade" references the story Wizard's created. It's not hypocritical at all.

Nature's Kiss is 'great' for troll decks. Include a card or two that can gift cards and from the top of the game everyone needs to now track their graveyard order and not alter it.

I’d definitely call the OG duals 10s, if the definition is “can’t get any better.” How can you get better than two basic land types that enter untapped? That’s as good as any non-utility land gets or ever will get in the history of the game.
