5. Greek Warrior Helmet
This mysterious finding dates back to 5th or 6th century BC and it’s not exactly the helmet itself that’s baffling archaeologists but where it was found and who wore it! This bronze Greek Phalanx helmet was found at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea but off the coast of Haifa, Israel! It was found by a Dutch dredging ship and it was handed off to the Israeli Antiquities Authorities for further examination. The helmet is in quite remarkable condition for something this old. Experts have two theories on why it was found near Israel. Some claim it was from a Greek mercenary who was paid to fight for the Egyptians. Others believe it was worn by a Greek soldier who was sent into battle against the Persians who ruled the area at the time. Greeks did have some influence in Israel but this helmet dates back a few centuries before that time.
4. Ancient Sea Travel
Ancient Greeks might have not only had the power to time travel but also to travel the seas at a much earlier date in time then we once thought. Thanks to this discovery found on the island of Crete, archaeologists can prove that sea travel took place at least 130,000 years ago. The previous known time people were able to trave l by boat was around 60,000 BC. Stone age tools like these axes were found in ancient shelters. They’re very similar to the tools used by our ancient ancestors known as the Homo Erectus. Since the island of Crete has been separated from the mainland of Greece for quite some time now, this leads archaeologists to believe that the only way settlers were able to get here was by some type of boat. How advanced were these boats they had, and what other places were discovered that we might not know about?
3. Spartan Palace?
You might be familiar with the ancient Spartans from the movie 300, where King Leonidas leads his small Spartan army into a gruesome battle but could archaeologists have found his palaces after all these years? Just a few miles south of the known location of Sparta near a small village, you can see where it was discovered. The building had around 10 rooms and was found filled with archaic inscription from the 17th to 16th centuries BC. They found a large variety of objects like 20 Bronze swords, and religious symbols. One of the cult like objects found at this possible palace, is this bull’s head cup that you see in this photo. If this is truly the palace of Spartan leader, we’d still be lucky to have some artifacts left over, since the palace was burnt to the ground in the 14th century BC. The Spartan civilization was one of the most important to live in Greece and it mysteriously disappeared around 1200 BC.
2. Ancient Greek Citadel
This was declared as one of Jerusalem's greatest archaeological mysteries and it has left many people completely puzzled! The legendary citadel known as the Acra was finally found underneath a parking lot in the center of Jerusalem! This fort was built by Emperor Antiochus the fourth and is finally proof that the Greeks had some influence in the holy town of Jerusalem. The dig site now plunges 3 stories below the surface of the earth and archaeologists search frantically for ruins and artifacts. The fort was later destroyed by Romans and the land near the ruins became a residential area. These sling stones and bronze arrowheads were found at the dig site, close to the old city walls of Jerusalem.
1. Ancient Warrior Tomb
US archaeologists claim to have made the most important discovery in Greece in 65 years. They came across a 7 foot tomb in 2015 that contain priceless relics from this remarkable civilization. The tomb contained the remains of a powerful ancient Greek warrior, whose tomb remained untouched for 3.5 thousand years. It’s almost like the Greek version of the tomb of King Tut since; the tomb was not grave robbed. The jewelry had a similar style to that of the Minoans, who flourished on the island of Crete. Here in this illustration, you see how the grave appeared before modern graverobbers got a hold of it. Priceless gold jewelry, as well as strings of pearls were discovered. It’s clear that this warrior was wealthy due to this ivory sword hilt that was found designed with what looks like a bull. What else might we uncover about this advanced, ancient civilisation?

Most of our history is buried under the earth, aegean ocean, stolen from greece and put in museums worldwide... Especially France, England, USA. WE HAVE MORE, BUT WE DON'T TELL, GREECE IST FULL OF MYTH AND KOMPLEX MATERIAL, SCIENTISTS TRY TO EXPLAIN THINGS MANY YEARS!!!! AND ANOTHER FACT IST, PROOVED BY DNA, THAT MODERN GREEKS ARE TIGHT RELATED TO ANCIENT GREEKS, THE OVERLAPPING OF BOTH DNAs PROOVED THAT! Read a 7th grade history book (heck, just look at the pictures), and you would have known that the "laptop" is an ancient greek folding tablet. And not the modern touch-screen variety, but the old-school "wet clay in a wooden frame" kind: Two clay surfaces you can write in, which can be folded together for ease of carrying without what you have written being smudged or drying out. The Antikythera mechanism is an impressive archaeological find, but in terms of technology it has almost nothing to do with a modern-day computer. It is based on a system of gears and cogs much like a 19th-century clock.

Helmet is a Corinthian. Later Corinthians had side slots to improve hearing which was a flaw of the earlier types. The Greeks had colonies right around the eastern Med' and Black Sea so why would it be such a surprise to find one in the sea off Israel? Could easily be a marines and/or mercenary helmet. Nothing odd at all.

I had seen a documentary on the last named two Americans archeologists. As a Greek I want to express my dearest admiration on their adamantine character and deep dedication to their profession with ethical and humanity values. These people worked with their own expenses and protected the site. History shows a lot archeologists took as their own findings worldwide. But these two truly give value to their nation and culture.

Hang on. He makes a reference to the battle at Thermopylae, and then claim the spartans disappeared at 1200 BC? The very fact that the battle of Thermopylae was in 480 BC contradicts this. And Sparta continued to wage was long after that. They finally defeated Athens in the Pelopnnesian war in 404. But their kingdom went into decline after they were defeated by Thebes in 371 BC. A few other points. That ivory sword hilt he speaks of look to be a comb. And it's not right to use the term zombies about the undead of different cultures. Zombies are the re animated dead in the parts of the world that practices voodoo. And that they would prefer to eat human brains is just Hollywood made up. There are many categories of undead. Some were indeed thought to eat human flesh, or any other flesh. Vampires were thought to drink blood. But many did not take any nourisment at all, but tormented the living in different ways.

Well, Zombies wasn't a term from Greek and as such wouldn't have called them as such. However, the European archaeologist did call them Zombies, so blame them. From what I have read, they are still not really sure why they placed the stones there, at this time they are guessing " Zombies" fears, however, again since Greek Culture had no concept of such, we may never know. There has been a new theory that they may have worried about a type of Vampirism, or Porphyria, which we do know existed in Greek culture and records exist of fears of it in their culture.

No, Corinth was a city in Greece. If I remember correctly; they call it a "Corinthian" helmet because they found some examples of it at Corinth. It was really a helmet used all over Greece. When the Romans conquered Greece; I think that Corinth was destroyed but remade later as a so called "Roman colony". This meant that the citizens in Corinth had special privileges as Roman citizens.

Not only a warrior, but a liberator, a scholar, a scientist, a pholosopher, a doctor, a botanist, an administrator, an economist, a trader, a bringer of Greek thought, civilization and culture to regions, prosperity, a peace and longevity. No other conqueror have these qualities. That's why he's called Alexander the Great.

Ditto, on the laptop being a clay tablet in a wooden box frame. The case was kept closed to keep the clay moist and to write more on another day with a stylus. When dry, the finished tablet was removed and the writing permanently preserved. New clay was put inside and a new document was begun. Old technology used by many ancient cultures for record keeping purposes.

"The Spartan civilization was one of the most important to live in Greece and mysteriously disappeared around 1200BC" - Huh!? And when you say that in the video you are literally showing in the background a picture of the Athenian general Pericles from around 430 BC giving his famous speech talking about the Athenian war dead from the first Peloponnesian war AGAINST Sparta (who according to you had somehow disappeared ~800 years earlier)...wow, just wow. Why make a history video if you don't know or understand the history? It literally helps no one.

That 'sword hilt' is quite obviously a comb! Perhaps the body of the comb also serves as a sheath for a hidden dagger (since there does appear to be a separation of the handle from the body of the comb): with the 'horn' being the handle of a dagger. But if so, I'm sure the spokesperson would have said as much.

You need to review your pronunciation of words, before you make a video. The "CH" in words such as "drachma" is NOT "DRACH-muh" but "DRAHK-muh". The same goes for the name "Antiochus" it should be "Anti-AHK-us" NOT "Anti-AHCH-us"! There were some others, but I don't mean to be overbearing on the subject. Just a word to encourage you to do a better job with how you say things.

Patrick Reijersen Wrong. They were 300 Spartans and 700 thespians.1000 in total but the 700 thespians left the battle because they know it was a defeat for them. After the battle and King Leonidas death, many Greek city states United to fight the Persians. More than 30k Greek soldiers ready to fight and that was the end for the Persian empire. The end.
@MrPanos2000
@MrPanos2000 7 жыл бұрын
Patrick Reijersen he meant myceneans. The palace was from the myceanean era and probably belonged to Menelaus, son of Atreas. Also both of you are wrong regarding numbers. The battle of thermopylae was faught between 300.000 persians and 10.000 greeks. During the last days the greek army left to go and reinforce the isthmus of corinth (greek helms deep). Only 1000 people remained, 300 spartans and 700 thespians. They covered the retreat. Later the persian fleet was crushed at Salamis and the persian army routed to asia minor. Pausanias and some 25.000 greeks sallied forth and defeated Mardonius and his feeble, but numerically superior force, who was wintering near the town of Plateus. That was in no way the end of the persian empire. The achaemid dynasty continued to rule for 2 more centuries, conquering lands in Scythia and the arabian peninsula. After alexanders conquest and death, the parthian state rose and much later the infamous sassanid dynasty. The persian empire went extinct by the conquests of the Caliphate in the 8th century AD !

The idea is sound, but debated by many, if true, then we have to consider that ancient Celtics and French made it to East coast before native Americans (Who weren't even native to Americas), but the current science cannot accept this possibility, never mind that ancient Native Americans do state they came upon cultures of strange peoples, not like themselves. There is some evidence Chinese and Egyptians came to North America too.

Bollocks.The Britons were a happy, contented & highly civilised group of peoples, living quite happily, fighting amongst ourselves. Then Julius & later Claudius cast their envious eyes in this direction & decided that they wanted it. Why then if this land was nothing did they want it so badly? They obviously realised that it is the most wonderful country on this planet, they recognised the seeds of the greatness to come, that this little island would come to dominate the world, giving many of those things which make our modern world. So stick that in your pipe & smoke it. Anyway, what have the Romans ever done for us?
