Vain, Roxx Gang, Heavens Edge & Babylon AD are my favorites of this group. I still play these albums all the time. I announce varsity & Junior High football games & always get their songs in at halftime. The crowd lives it. Roxx Gang's "Scratch My Back" is my ringtone on my phone.🙂🖤💛

Great list! Vain was a VERY underrated band. My old band back in the late 80's used to cover "Beat the Bullet" & "Icy". I think most kids thought those songs were our own because no one knew who Vain was, but we just loved that first album! We also covered "Misery Loves Company" from Lillian Axe. 💯

Jamie was a local guitar instructor when I was in high school. The No Respect demo that’s out there they is far better, IMO. The songs on the Island release were whittled down. The guitar solos only give a small taste of what James Scott does on the demo. They played the Omni and The Stone regularly and yes, they were a band you wanted to see play live.

Only reason these are "rare" is because stations like Hair Nation rarely, if ever, play them anymore. If you were deep into the 80s hair scene, you'd have almost all these in your collection already.
@DASamX54533 жыл бұрын
No...A lot of it was cause the Radio Stations wouldn't play bands or songs unless they were popular or ballads...all about the ratings...and also cause a lot of these bands weren't shown much if at all on MTV. I use to watch MTV every day coming home from Middle School in the 80s and a majority of these bands weren't on their at the timeframe I was watching. Most the time...It was all about the countdowns for MTV...

I hate the term 'hair band', but I was done with the party by the time most of these bands released their debuts. Of these 10 I'd only seen Keel and Tigertailz live in the 80s, but I have been lucky enough to see almost all of them since (Nitro, Hurricane and Roxx Gang still elude me). Every one of the bands you listed was capable of writing one or two classics but for me Vain are the stand out band of this bunch, with Lillian Axe a close second.
@Rabant7773 жыл бұрын
@Rob Schultz Some people may have used the term "Hair" band earlier, but my recollection of first seeing it used was in 1992/93 on MTV and it was a Rolling Stone writer speaking disparagingly about bands he felt empowered to put down. I can understand why some bands, promoters, labels etc. claimed the term back for themselves but to me I always picture a self-appointed gatekeeper sneering at a generation for their poor taste.

Some of these bands were cool, some I never cared for. Babylon A.D. were cool, and another in that vein was McQueen Street, very late to the game with their only hair-era album in '91. I really liked Child's Play's Rat Race album as well. I remember liking Roxy Blue and Wildside a lot at the time, but looking back I can see that they were both very derivative. As I get older, I gravitate more to the dirtier-sounding bands like Junkyard, Circus of Power and the like, rather than the smooth-voiced, flash-guitar bands like Heaven's Edge. It's all good though, or mostly so - the only one on this list that I actively dislike is Pretty Boy Floyd.
