OMG! Dude! Your comments about the CPSC ruling are spot on! Exacty the way I've felt about it from the first time I heard it. I bought a Pint X in March of 2022 and, without any board sport experience per se, I pushed myself just enough to learn how to ride it. I thought it looked like so much fun about 4 years prior when I first saw a video about it. When I finally plulled the trigger and bought one, I was bound and determined to ride it. It took me until mid June 2022 to finally be confident enough to join the local Facebook group on a ride and I've never looked back! I soon outgrew the limits of the Pint X and bought a GT in September of 2022. Now both are a HUGE part of my life. I ride one or the other every chance I get. I thought about selling the Pint X but I love each one for different reasons, Just a couple days ago, I invited some of my coworkers, including my supervisor and his manager, to try one out since they expressed interest in riding it. They learned it so quickly with my help, I was amazed. Now their enthusiasm is so high, I'm hoping they'll be able to purchase their own. I've also told them about the CPSC ruling and they agree with my opinion (and yours, BTW) and are accepting the risks involved. That's the way it is with any such activity or sport. I really think nearly any PEV the risks are nearly the same, most of all the electric unicycle which are capable of speeds much faster than the Onewheel. It makes me feel that, for some reason, the CPSC has unfairly singled out Future Motion/Onewheel as the scapegoat of the uptrend of PEVs. Everything comes with risk, especially any kind of motorized sport and those who choose to partake in that sport. Granted, I've fallen several times, gotten bruises and such but I wholeheartedly believe it was not the fault of the board, mostly just balance issues and my inexperience in riding. In March, I experience my first nosedive on the GT but that was because I tried to beat traffic crossing a street and tried to accelerate faster and harder than the board was capable of. I accepted the consequences of my (truly) mistake and had a black eye to show for it. But I got right back on and rode it the next day. As the old saying goes, "If you fall off the horse, you have to get right back on and ride." The enjoyment I get out of my Onewheels by far exceeds the expense and injuries I've sustained. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Truly one of the most worthwhile purchases I've ever made and I can't say that with enough enthusiasm.
@brycestrife5605 Жыл бұрын
I own a pint I've overpowered it easily and nosedive going up hills or going from a decline to an incline quickly. I've had some nasty falls and I wear my helmet every single time I ride. I'll tell you what though, I've kayaked, Rock climbed, repelled heights greater than the Statue of Liberty and that adrenaline is the same adrenaline I get from one Wheeling. I've owned this pint for 4 months and I'm selling it and upgrading to a gt. I believe it's worth it for the safety features and strength in torque. This was amazingly informative. Love from Utah.

Those issues still exists. I just bought a brand new Pint X less then 40 miles on it, I’ve had to send it back twice already for repairs due to 1. bad motor the first time, 2. The board ghosted the first ride back from Future Motion. Board still rides so much worse then my first one wheel Pint X, the board is a lemon and FM refuses to correctly fix the board. If you do decide to support this company just beware they blatantly lie and absolute give zero concern to customers satisfaction and will most likely deny any warranty by saying they fixed it but not accurately fixing anything. They’re amazing boards but the company is the worst.

My Pintx has been repaired 3 x and is currently bricked, but out of warranty. I’ve had these similar experiences with several plus,XR, pint, Pintx and GT boards. At a minimum I would like FM to recall and refund these bricked boards. My injuries from mechanical failure (not user error) as determined by the board shutting off mid ride, are a separate topic. It looks like Vesc has solved many of these defects gives me hope that OW riding error can finally be in the riders hands. WTTW don’t ride harder than you can roll it out.

I have broken my ankle on the GT. I was riding at 10 to 15 mph and I hit a loose patch of gravel. The board came unstable and I jumped off and my front foot landed in front of the board. The board still had movement to it and ran into my ankle. That is when it broke. I thought I had just bruised until I put weight on it and it became dislocated. I have a pint as well and I don’t think it would have happened if I was on the pint. The GT is just so much heavier and makes you feel like you have this sense of confidence unlike the other boards. I think it’s more dangerous than other models because of how much power it has. Me breaking my ankle was totally my fault though because I was being a bit reckless. I will still keep my GT and I have had a blast on it so far and hopefully still will. I hope you are safe out there and having fun.

Hi Jimmy, nicely said. Congrats on your GT and I am glad you are enjoying it. The agency's statement sounds like it was prepared by the plaintiffs' bar. I read somewhere that there have been four deaths since 2014 and while each one is sad and unfortunate, I also heard that each one involved a rider without a helmet. FM seems to go above and beyond not just designing the safety features that you mentioned in your video into the board, but in the accompanying material and videos they always advise wearing safety gear, most importantly a helmet. I agree with you, most of the crashes likely involve rider error.

I did a range test on it on a figure 8 track and got 30 miles of range and I'm at 200 lb so it really really surprised me in a good way. The GT has never come close to running out of juice and I feel way more safer on it that I did before. The Master and T4 both feel like I'm riding on a cloud. The Master I've gotten about 80 miles out of and the T4 maxed out at 45 miles of range. To me T4 is a great wheel for group rides and trails and I'm using the Master as my long-range cruiser for now. Firstly range my Mountain Board is only limited to the size of Lipos I put in the battery box. My current range is 50 miles approximately. Secondly the ability to ride it like a snow board, carving jumping etc. lastly the dreaded nosedive.

The lower your battery is and the heavier you are, the less your going to be able to send it. As a community, we don't want to admit that we are all on a 1 wheel rotating axis and when we overpower physics, we are going over the edge. With 2 or more wheels you just slow down or stop. We are all just basically riding an inverted pendulum... pendulum riders. 99% more of a inherent physics problem rather than design issue. The other 1%, yeah maybe loose nuts in older models but look what people do to their cars. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that when you've got all this extra juice (PintX and GT), you're much safer and less chance of nose diving. That's why you hardly see GT crashes because it's got all that battery and torque. I think FM can use that as a great argument to the CPSC. OG Pints and XRs are no longer sold and that PintX and GT is inherently safer since they have bigger batteries and enhanced safety features built in. FUTURE MOTION, discouraging battery upgrades, you are endangering everyone with older model Onewheels rather than protecting them.

After rereading the report it is clear to me this has less to do with the product and more with the company. CPSC seems to have an ax to grind with FM and has gone this route because they pushed back on the recall suggestion. It's clear in the language of the notice CPSC is not adequately familiar with how the devices operate. Stating boards "suddenly stopped while in motion" but not extrapolating. My use and understanding is that the board can not simply stop on its own. Did they mean board stop functioning or referencing nose dives? This is my biggest problem with the situation rn. There is abundance of vagueness and little definitive statements about what makes it dangerous. I'm left wondering if the design FM implemented in firmware or hardware has a legitimate failure or if CPSC acted before understanding.

First off congrats on more Onewheel content, and your new channel. When the GT was released I honestly believed it was built for you. I mean it looks slick, does not look like it was Homebuilt, and all the little things that you have commented on in the past. That said, I was super impressed by your critique, and your outspokenness. And then came the controversy, wow, we have really been through a lot. I just wanted to say that the interview that you had with Kyle was extremely eye-opening, and I believe the questions that you asked and the answers you got really gave us a more intimate look inside of the company. Thank you for that. All the best, keep them coming, and enjoy the ride. I do think that the GT was a board built for all the wrong reasons, they make sense to future motion, but they don’t make sense to the majority of Rogers that I know. However, I now understand that we are not that demographic that they are selling to. To really have a great GT you need to get rid of the tire get rid of the foot pads and possibly lower the axle. For the amount of money that you would have to spend it really is difficult for me to even contemplate getting one. Aoxomoxoa

Thank you for the video! Onewheel riders = Darwin awards for PEV's. When I look on youtube I can see riders in cities with minimum or no safety gear at all + racing. This CPSC issue is purely self-inflicted problem, of course accidents do happen. To CPSC it doesn't matter who gets hurt or why they get hurt, but the increase in insurance fees do matter. The easiest way to prevent this is to slap a ban. And this is just the start. We have seen many other PEV's limited or banned in certain areas in the states too, there is a lot of youtube content people racing/speeding PEV's in public paths and near pedestrians, kids will copy. Only need one bigger accident to pedestrian or a few fatalities to riders and we reach the statewide news. This SPSC actions against Onewheels feels like a beginning of more strict regulation we have been requesting ourselves with stupid attitude by a few irresponsible riders. Please ride safe and leave racing to quiet areas to prevent unreasonable limitation like we have already here in the EU (for these exact reasons we start to see mirror in the USA).

What other device ejects the rider when they are pushing too hard? There should be a limit to how hard you can push the board without it just shutting down causing the rider to faceplant. This is not a skill issue, it is an engineering issue.

Now, I do not have a one wheel. As I said in a statement earlier. But my younger brother does own a one wheel. Through him I've heard nothing but praise about these devices. Just like with anything else. You need to build a certain skill level in order to safely operate these machines. People are so quick to blaming the machine when they get injured. But nine times out of 10 it is the person operating the machine that caused the injury by improperly using the device. Banning an item because of somebody's ignorance with said item? I just believe is a little overstepping. Require more warnings. Require certifications (That's a little much, I know), but banning the item all together I think is far past a little too much. Kind of crosses the line into babying people. Just my opinion. Great video as always man. Have a great day!!!

Is it any more dangerous than an EUC? Not having ridden a Onewheel, I certainly don't know. I do ride an EUC and falls from that device certainly carry the risk of injury. And they go a lot faster than a Onewheel. 36 pounds seems like a featherweight compared to some of the big EUC's and the Super Scooters are both way too big and heavy for my taste. P.S. My criticisms aside, this is a great perspective on the Onewheel. I thought you slowed your Onewheeling down because there were safer alternatives, such as EUCs and eScooters. I'm 62 and one thing I can tell you, there is risks in everything. I know people who have died on bicycles, ladders, ........ One thing I can tell you, getting out and living your life is worth the risk, the one wheel has very little risk. However, I am not happy with their service policy, everything breaks or needs service.

It is the fact that it can still nose dive and just shut off is the problem. With the VESC it’s shows that it can be changed and future motion still leaves that function.. seems like punishment for pushing the boards limits.

What do you expect it’s physics if the motor can’t sustain you while going faster of course it’s going to cut off the same thing happens on electric scooters and E bikes but on those the motor is not helping you balance so you don’t fall

I think the safety concern is the board ghosting not anything else. What we saw with the trotter was it tipped over when no one was on it but the one wheel doesn't do that. I have a feeling that's what the cpsc is going after . If it's not idk what it could be if it's that it ejects you when u overpower it thats a user error issue most of the time . Proud xr owner still loving my board but it's now winter and snow is starting to fall so the slow times be coming xD

My biggest problem is when Onewheel fans forgives the lackluster motor and instead blame themselves and own abilities. When the motors fails when pushed too hard, instead of asking for better safety parameters from future updates, new motors, or upgrades, they internalize that inherent risk as riding outside of their skill limit. what skill limit? the only skill you need to know is to slow down and not overwork the weak motor. This what happens when there is a MONOPOLY. Instead companies competing to make the safest product or most powerful product. Fans are content with the existing risk and internalizes it as their own lack of skills. - End rant. (I love my onewheel, I want it to be better, so I criticize it because I love it)

My motor is fine it’s me pushing it to hard that is the problem.
@BoyangSun2 жыл бұрын
@@bigg_survivor_8876 that;s literally the definition of a weak motor
@Soneoak Жыл бұрын
Could you give an example of how the motor being weak contributes to its danger? Why would a stronger motor provide more safety? It seems a stronger motor has to push u forwards faster and so increase your forwards momentum if you keep pushing it til it gives out. So how fast do you want to be when it gives out? At 60miles per hour? It probably has power to push to 25% the excess speed, weather it has the grip or that it is set to is irrelevant. They have to put a cut off where it will fail before you reach catastrophic speeds regardless of its ability to go faster. It's a physics thing. The motor being underpowered makes no sense. It definitely is overpowered to the point it actually wheel spins on less grippy surfaces. It has enough power for the appropriate incline at which its gyroscope will work for, beyond which, the board's nose would be touching the ground (example a very steep slope) , or you would have to ride with an imbalanced board with a high nose height at all times, and never go in reverse, which makes it even less intuitive to learn and ride and becomes absolutely dangerous to not have an obvious balance point. Perhaps it's not the motor at fault then, it's the other bits of the board, you need a one wheel with a massive wheel, and a much shorter inter board nose distance to achieve steeper climbs.

No way to buy this, I am from EU waaaay far from the only service center :D. I much rather have my V12HT bought cheaper than this weak joke of a product :). And regarding the safety - it is impossible for me to overpower V12HT, not hard to overpower and nosedive weak onewheel.

@@Andrew-vt4jt well I am part of many EUC groups (Including V12 group) and it is rare to see cutout issue of V12HT.
