So Coca Cola is spending millions of dollars, employing thousands of employees to ensure that there's good drinking water and because they're doing it to make sure they stay in business and you will criticize them despite never being able to come close to helping as many people as Coca Cola. If corporations are bad because people are bad why would you hand the power over to the government which is also run by people who will be just as bad but with insanely more power over your lives? If you don't want to buy coke all they can do is try to market harder. If you don't want to pay into a super expensive failing healthcare system that the government props up and sets whatever price they want, they can fine you and if you refuse to pay the fine they can send policemen to your house and put you in jail.

"Coca Cola" is an interesting display choice, so much of their market share is due to the fact that it is the only soft drink manufacturing company in the U.S. allowed to import and use coca leaves in its production process. That doesn't sound like "capitalism" that sounds like "Mercantilism." That begs the question "What other mercantilist policies has "Coca Cola" been the beneficiary of worldwide? Why not let the competition have access to the same ingredients so there could be an honest "Pepsi Challenge"?

I'm not saying that we should let companies do whatever they wanted. There are government regulations that allow monopolies only in SPECIFIC cases, the other stuff is regulated. Socialism is government regulation dialed up to 1000. I've lived in that system, and partially still do, and it sucks. IN capitalism you can vote with your money. Don't like something? Move on. In socialism it's simple: you don't like something? Well that's a shame, because you have NO other choice.

Point of correction: You said that a monopoly doesn't form without help from the government. This is incorrect. Standard Oil became a monopoly without any assistance from the government. For a modern example... Live Nation Entertainment (Live Nation + Ticketmaster) currently have a monopoly on large venue ticket sales right now. The government did not help nor hinder them from becoming a monopoly. It literally sat there and let it happen.

Thank you for this video Pat, it is always great to hear about like-minded people. I have been in a key role in this small but very promising political party which is all about bringing more markets and less government. I am from a northern country where people have gotten used to big government and getting everything for free, so it is very hard to convince normal folks why market economy works and why capitalism and freedom are the greatest things in the world. The markets are seen as something bad and making a profit as something evil. I just want to be left alone and do my own stuff but it is sometimes frustrating to keep on spreading the message when everyone is disagreeing. I have been watching your videos for some while now and they have taught me a lot of things. You inspire me greatly, even though I disagree with some things you say. I have also been struggling to make our small startup to work after graduating this summer, and now we landed our first contract! I quit my job and I am excited but still nervous about the future. Regardless I will make this work. Love you, Pat!

How so? Sure, there are big companies with a lot of farm land, but most of the fields you drive by are owned and operated by private farmers. The distribution of the goods provided by those farms may be slightly monopolized, but it’s the farmer’s choice where their goods go. They can choose to provide to local consumers, big consumers, companies, wherever. Choice is the beauty of capitalism.
@33degree
@33degree 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThatWheat I do agree with you, yet the capitalism which is still mainly powered by the greed can be good for the end users to some extent. I'm living in Estonia myself, but the cheapest product of tomato for example comes from Poland which quality thanks for the GMO and pesticides is abnormal so I'm buying local goods although I'm paying 2 eur more per kg. It will get tighter and tighter year after year for example the soaring energy and constructiom prices right now which world wide occurance is the further means to cut small dealers out from all of the sectors. As long as the quality and the pricing is in balance I really don't mind the monopoly as long as there are fair trading policy's In place.

When you only tell part of the story it is easy for Capitalism to look good. To say we don't have a draft today? WRONG. We have an economic draft. Young people with no jobs to go to go where. The military. This my friend is a failure of Capitalism. In this country now, we have the worst health outcomes of ALL the industrialized Nations. We have now as opposed to roughly 30 years ago, when it was 11%, now have 56% of children with Chronic health issues. A LOT of money is being made, however this is a Failure of Capitalism a symptom of Capitalism not working for the people. Why are there so many sick people in the so called Best Nation on the planet? "Agribusiness" not farming. Again a LOT of money is being made while we slowly KILL the soil with you so called innovations producing "Product", NOT healthy food. THIS my friend is FAILURE of Capitalism. I on the other hand spent the last 50 years taking NO drugs over the counter or prescription of any kind ever. I have not used ONCE, my health insurance for any sickness for any doctor EVER. I do not even have a doctor nor do I want one. I taught myself to stay healthy with Organic healthy food and lifestyle. I am the living answer to both the health care crisis and the resultant financial crisis that CAPTALISM has created around your so called health care, that will bring down our civilization. You like to read. Read "Topsoil and Civilization" you will see all around you right now in this country the result of Capitalist agriculture and medicine and it will end BAD if we don't recognize and admit to it. I could take apart more of your points however I will give you a break and allow you to "THINK MAN THINK/ :) By the way, I am 70 and still surf the steep waves on the north shore of Oahu and hike her steep cliff's regularly, no thanks to Capitalism and the Current Covid crisis, which are the result of Capitalism and it's sick all profit or nothing ways. Profit is GOD will end it for all of us.

Crazy how life expectancy has increased, not because of capitalism but because of government-funded research. Also crazy how Cuba, one of the most well known "socialist" countries biggest exports are doctors. In fact, it's crazy how the US is ranked lower than several countries that are more socialist and have universal health care. So crazy.
