No but for real it actually is by far the best live album I've ever heard in my life. The electricity of Keith and Mick Taylor on Sympathy is extraordinary, probably my favourite solo ever after Free Bird. Just the way Keith does his best soloing blues for the solo intro and then Taylor just picks it up and fucken sends it to the moon is amazing. Mick Taylor was the best thing that happened to the Stones.

This is a tough call. Both bands were at a peak, perhaps the two best live bands in the world. As far as what I DON"T like about each album: Ya Ya's has some studio overdubs. Some of the patter from Mick Jagger doesn't hold up so well today; "You don't want my trouser to fall down do ya?" Live at Leeds has a great side one, but then a long version of "Magic Bus" is a little less enthralling, and the medley/extended "My Generation" has some good moments, but I prefer the original version of "My Generation." But still two of the greatest live albums. Other favorite live albums are Wes Montgomery "Smoking at the Half Note" and B B King "Live at the Regal," and Ramones "It's Alive."

I followed the same path exactly Skip. I was 20 in '70 when I first really HEARD the Stones. Had been a casual fan before that, but this album and the Gimme Shelter movie made me realize this was true rock n roll at its very best. To paraphrase you, I've said since then 'that the Beatles wanted to hold your hand, but the Stones wanted to buzz around your hive". Big difference. I still listen to them almost daily and continue to hear little nuggets or details I'd never picked up before. The Stones rarely disappoint. And this is a true classic live album, surpassed only by possibly the Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore East.

No mention that this was released in response to a bootleg live album called "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be" or something close to that. Bob Marley and the Wailers: 'Live' 'Woodstock' Humble Pie: 'Rockin' The Fillmore'. (Keef has 'name-dropped' Steve Marriott several times over the years.) But, 'Ya-Yas' wins the prize! - Dave B.
