I love this couple. I lived van life for about 7 years, and yes....it's a big, proud, lonely, lovely, country. There is no TV. No computer service that I pursued with the antennae or cell phone as a hotspot (I used libraries and bought used magazines and books for fifty cents). I learned the hard way, about going cheap, being free, and squeezing the best out of a difficult situation (homelessness by expedience). My only regret is, I didn't do Mexico (Baja). I just found this couple, and love to see them enjoy this crazy van life with the best attitude. Attitude is a neccessity. This couple has it: to be young, to embrace that wonderlust, to be able to handle roughing it up which requires creative problem solving. Only criticism is obvious: YOU NEED a BIGGER VEHICLE.

@@ian.and.ana. How could anybody be negative towards two gutsy, attractive, contemporary hippies who roll with the punches and have made temporary homlessness seem so adventurest. This is a life I know well and lived it the same way: going cheap is more fun than being too well funded. This is an authentic adventure and I've never seen better podcast video using that drone. This is...the milennial generation: travel, internet of things, good natured, eating healthy, keeping a fit body to remain attractive....taking it for those willing to get out of a box (home, apt.) to see the real nature. Just love these two kids. I'd send them my favorite camp equipment, but.....how would they get the gifts?

They really do a good job of it. Just be aware, though, that they've sugar coated a lot of the negatives and positives. Keeping things organized is a nightmare. The second you let one thing slip the whole system collapses and before you know it shit is everywhere and you gotta spend a whole day just fixing it. Literally everything about going to the bathroom is horrible. Before you start vanlife, just take time to appreciate and cherish having your own bathroom right there that you can use whenever you want. After a few weeks on the road you'll realize that indoor plumbing is the greatest invention of all time. Same with showering. Man do I miss my shower... The smells are worse, too. You won't shower every day. Your dirty laundry, shoes, socks, dirty underwear, trash, and food are all together in one tiny space. It can get gross faster than you think. It's also terrifying when you settle in for the night and suddenly hear people walking around right outside your vehicle but can't see them and have no idea what they're doing. Not enough of these vloggers come out and just say that there are times where you'll be the most miserable you've ever been. Hot, dirty, sleep deprived, and about to shit yourself because the nearest usable toilet is 20 minutes away but you can't find the keys because they didn't get put in the right spot for some reason. All that to say that they are still correct when they say it's worth it. It really is. But I promise you it's harder than you think and not nearly the romanticized dream people make it out to be. Sorry for the novel...

The US is soo diverse! I lived in Utah for a year and the landscape was insane. Salt Lake City is green and has nice mountains and then Southern Utah is red haha, and I love the national parks 🥰 I've also done a few road trips in other states too and there is so much to see. I live in Finland and the nature here is beautiful but not as diverse as in the States. But the good thing living here is that Europe is quite compact so doing van life in Europe would be very easy. 😄 Another great video guys! I am just binge watching so many of your videos haha.

In 1975 I bought my first (and only) van. A 1960 Ford Econoline formerly the property of OhioBell and had about two light years on it. It had more carpet (purple) than metal in the back which was all rusted out. The 6 in a line engine was inside the cab between driver and passenger. Simple, reliable, even I could tinker with it. Max speed down hill with the wind about 50 MPH. Just graduated from DU, ready to get out of Pittsburgh. My roommate was heading home to the UK but first a yearlong road trip Bicentennial summer of 1976. We first went to NJ for a giant beach party and started west. Plan was to go to California without getting on an Interstate highway. Made it to Kansas before that changed. Now at 67 I still do road trips but now I have a small travel trailer. If I had a beautiful young woman like Ana along might still be in that Van. Stay safe and yes, Camping is FUN.

I would also say not everyone is suited to van life full time but being a partial van lifer may be the right balance for someone. For some renting a small apartment for part of the year and doing van life for part of the year may be the right balance for them if they don't want to constantly be on the move but want a little bit of a mix between beeing on the road and being in one location for a bit.

Do you have a Twitter account? I enjoy your videos but I would like to communicate sometimes. I am from Florida, I worked most of my life in automotive, trucking, towing. I have drove over a million miles in my life mostly in FL at work. (I worked gruesome hours/beyond slave shifts) So I can always give good honest advice if needed. One item I had to purchase immediately after getting a van is a jnc 660. This jump box is a legend amongst automotive professionals. 1700 peak amps you can drive a car out of the road with a bad alternator easily. And still have plenty of power. Hook it up to your battery close the hood on it and go. ( The hood won't be closed all the way this will get you out of traffic and into a parking lot if one is really close by. ) There are bad neighborhoods when you travel, for $124 it is worth the piece of mind. Stick with the basic model. But a tire inflator seperately I got one at Walmart for $24 It plugs into my jump box and it doesn't take that much power. (you can plug it into the cigg lighter but I advise against that. ) And I can tell you about tire plug kits if you want.

Question for van lifers: what are some recurring costs than come along with van life? Like I know y'all don't have to pay rent but what about car payments, insurance, etc?
