I’m guilty of the tone chasing but I think I mean something different in my mind. If I’m trying to learn an 80s song, I like having my amp’s tone closer rather than having it EQ’d for metal. It makes it feel better as you try learning. Learning new techniques is one I’m trying to do. I’ve been trying to experiment with clean tones lately and it’s making it harder for me to put out any videos right now at the moment because I’m trying to practice a little bit more before I put another video. But I definitely dig what you said in your video. I agree with you!

My dad always played guitar so that's what got me into it as well. I've started by learning some nirvana songs, guns n roses and then beatles and queen. I'm much more of a queen geek and that's where I learned most of my playing from Brian May. Recently I've gotten into classical/flamenco once I heard Steve Howe's Mood for a Day. I'm not really into blues that much since It tends to be repetitive. I hear the same licks and runs all the time which kind of kills it for me. I guess that's because its all mainly pentatonic based and I like more complex music. So something I noticed in my guitar journey so far is that I went from simpler stuff to more complex stuff. I think it's important for people to get into more complex music with harmonies and great melodies because it just shows that music can be way more than just a pentatonic scale run :) But of course taste is a thing and there are people who prefer simpler music, it's all a matter of taste, but that doesn't mean you should NOT learn about other genres and the sounds they provide!

The reasons I’m guilty of Are 2 3 and 5 I’m always stuck in the habit in the blues scale even though I practice the Friedman and Gilbert riffs at times and I confess that I don’t perform as much cause I felt like I never had the right gear also I always felt my tone could be better by a new guitar and better effects but I was wrong After watching this I’m going back and review some of your videos of Friedman , solnick , Gilbert and write riffs fit for a guitar god

Good one Greg. A lot of what you said boils down to self discipline. 20-30 minutes of studying theory in the morning before work and an hour of practice in the evening afterwards is worth it's weight in gold. But you have to want to and make yourself do it.

Theory is really useful for orchestration and not getting lost when playing. It's good to know it, of course people use the argument that music comes from the head and that theory isn't needed and that all the greats don't know theory bla bla bla. I'm sure legendary players know some theory. Everyone learns some at some point. It's really good to know these things especially if you wanna play with other musicians that play other instruments. Also some theory will make you realise why you are playing certain chord shapes and how the major scale is basically every other scale :)

Many of these would be solved if people were OK with being frustrated for a few weeks, months or years. I mean, you aren't going to sweep like Yngwie in half an hour. No matter what he says, he sat down and practiced for hours and hours and unleashed the fury on himself.

( I wear glasses and have a lazy eye) Get off the “me” string and play with the E string. That’s why I’m a drummer because I am great at beating it. Good talk
