The usual candidates for this kind of list would be things like the highest mountain, or the longest river, or the biggest forest, or canyon, or other obvious stuff like that. But you probably already learned those things in school, and we here at TopTenz aren’t about the obvious and instead focus on bringing you other records. The ones people rarely talk about. So let’s do exactly that. Here are 10 other records owned by Mother Nature.

Ive been watching videos from this channel pretty much exclusively for a week now. I don't have a tv, so I do most of my entertainment on my iPad with KZbin being the most common app I use- all of which adds up to a LOT of your videos watched in the last week. And I'm still fascinated. You guys have some interesting topics, with such a wide variety of issues covered. I love it.

Many Australian rivers don’t empty into the ocean, they empty into its center and are filling it with silt. Over the eons Australia’s ancient-surface has been so eroded that from space the continent looks like a shallow saucer. I enjoyed the rest of the video also. Thank you.

Wohoo Austria!! But honestly don't go to the Eisriesenwelt if you are not fit. You have to climb the damn mountain for 2 hours and inside the cave you have to survive 1400 stairs and than go back down again. It's totally worth it but still.. And please please put on proper shoes and warm clothes. I hate nothing more that ignorant tourists in hot pants and flip flops complaining that the stairs are slippy it's cold in an ice cave. I mean what did you expext?

Starmite Yes, but we can identify Certain land masses and their formation via plate tectonics. So, the current rock that I throw, Might not have actually been part of the Earth's crust at one point in history. Also, not all of Earths mass is the same age. We receive tons of different debris from space each year. Plus different Cataclysmic events like Earth shattering asteroids provided more material as well.
@sleepingcity85
@sleepingcity85 5 жыл бұрын
@@deathbycognitivedissonance5036 But this is 0,0001% of earth's landmass or so. Starmite is correct, Australia is exactly as old as the other continents are. Your conclusion is just wrong. You could conclude that Australia is very special under the continents, because it holds a lot of records.

Woops, Simon, you made a blunder! When you mentioned the gold in the Makhonjwa mountains of South Africa. You said that the gold found here is the oldest ever created on the planet but you will probably know that gold is never created on planets but only within exploding stars (Supernovas) billions of years ago. That gold is merely seeded on new planets throughout any solar system formed like that way ours did. Billions of years later we come along and dig it up. A stuff that's older than the solar sytem and even the sun it's self.

Also…re-discovered in the 1990’s was a species of pine tree - the Wollemi Pine. It was thought to have gone extinct around the same time as dinosaurs but in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney a small copse of these were discovered. The pine cones have been carefully protected and grown to such an extent that you can now buy them through garden nursery’s and they have been planted all around the country. Fro only a handful of trees 30 years ago they are now thriving. Sometimes, people get it right…

A couple of small things, regarding GPS, the satellites are transmitters, your handheld device, like a phone, is strictly a receiver in terms of GPS positioning (and 3-4 satellites are required for GPS position to include elevation). Well, there's: Radiocarbon dating - for dating organic materials Dendrochronology - for dating trees, and objects made from wood, but also very important for calibrating radiocarbon dates Thermoluminescence dating - for dating inorganic material including ceramics Optically stimulated luminescence or optical dating for archaeological applications Potassium-argon dating - for dating fossilized hominid remains Archaeomagnetic dating - Clay lined fire hearths take on a magnetic moment pointing to the North Pole each time they are fired and then cool. The position of the North Pole for the last time the fire hearth was used can be determined and compared to charts of known locations and dates Lead Corrosion Dating. Amino acid dating Obsidian hydration dating - a geochemical method of determining age in either absolute or relative terms of an artifact made of obsidian Rehydroxylation dating - for dating ceramic materials.

I don’t dispute any of the facts quoted Simon but the way the oldest river was dated blew my tiny brain away, I mean how do scientists definitively prove their findings, not just the oldest river but in general, how on earth can they know exactly what went on 300 million years ago? Guess I just don’t understand the maths/ science used. The rain forest in Oz looks beautiful, a place that I wish I had heard of many years ago, before I became unable to travel, as it is my idea of where you go to see something totally unique and unspoiled. Believe me when I say make use of your life and follow your dreams, because one day it will be to late, something I regret every single day.

DareWolfRL exactly plus it’s probably aimed at slightly older people that remember when things were done properly.

@jormungand13324 No, GPS will not be more accurate because of this. They'll make a correction for Australia's map with respect to the unfaillable GPS location.

Well, In our usual Australian manner, we will have a government panel, especially featuring all demographic groups, plus unions and policical parties and interest groups. It will sit and debate for years, costing billions, achieve SFA, but still come up with a plan, possibly involving boomerangs, or meat pies and beer to weigh the country down, making it too hard to move because it will be populated by fat bastards, so it will bog down. The plan of the government will inevitably fail, be subject to a costly Royal Commission that goes nowhere but blames Climate Change. Then millions more will be spent on studying what went wrong. By that point we will have breached Indonesian territorian waters, and their descendants, and ours, will get together, drink beer and eat Beef Rendang. The original committee, in our usual fashion, will not yet have set an agenda. Meanwhile some sensible people will simply adjust the GPS system.
