Thanks! Im working so hard on this channel to give you all lots of great knowledge from my 25 years in post and about 8 or 9 years on Resolve as a working colourist. All for free (I've only had 3 thumbs down - why people would 'thumbs down' free content is beyond me - it's even ad free for now as I don't have 4,000 hours views yet!). Glad you appreciate it! Darren Mostyn Since finally, er, resolving, ahem, to make the switch, I’ve only opened Premiere once in the last 6 months to amend a legacy project. Everything since has been Resolve only to force myself to learn it. After spending countless hours finding my own way round and watching pointlessly-long, overcomplicated KZbin videos when trying to figure out one little thing, a series like this is a breath of fresh air! Thanks again, and if you’re ever in need of a junior/trainee colourist looking to learn more, and you’re based in the south east... I’m available! (Gotta take a punt with these things sometimes!).

What do you find to be best export settings in detail for Instagram. I notice alot of landscape size files fall apart and pixelate along with a faded look since Instagram uses sdr. Nobody is talking about Instagram quality of rendering. Everything is KZbin and sdr understandably. I’ve been reaching out to many on a gamma shift from viewer to ig upload. A warmer look appears on my phone compared to Davinchi viewer after I upload to Instagram. Thanks for all these videos. I’ve been saving and sending them all.

Thank you, Sir! What I do not get is that this has 484 likes at the moment. I mean, this is gold for anyone going for a pro workflow. @@DarrenMostyn I honestly think you will be invaluable to a lot of people in the future. As I see it, a need for quality content is in high demand now since people realise the value of it. It seems to go into the direction of why, instead of how. You, among other great "tutorialists", typically explain why something should be done in a certain way, instead of just stating that push this button and then that button... which in the end teaches the viewer absolutely nothing. Imho, the time of quick fixes and one-button-miracles is over. Thank you again!

Remember when 1K seemed like a lot of subscribers to you...? Now you're blowing up! Quick question regarding the Delivery Page: is there a method of deleting one or more of the Render Setting presets? For example, Pro Tools is not something I'm likely to use, but "Clear Preset" does not REMOVE the preset - it just clears its settings. There are four or five I'd love to disappear, but can't figure out how!

I always wondered if there's a way to view the beginning of a cut clip in the color page. This would be an easy way to white balance using the clapper.
@DarrenMostyn
@DarrenMostyn 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Can you elaborate ? white balancing a clapper is not a recommended method. White balance a colour chart, yes.
@antonarap
@antonarap 4 жыл бұрын
@@DarrenMostyn The clapper is white enough for me. The thing is, the clapper part is obviously edited out of any edit so you cannot see it in the colour page. Is there a way to see the entire clip without modifying the timeline? It would help color chart users too.
@DarrenMostyn
@DarrenMostyn 4 жыл бұрын
@@antonarap No there is no way to do that. Edit a small bit of what you need to balance the shot - in your case the clapper, and just add to the end of the timeline in the edit page. It will then appear in the colour page and you can copy/paste the grade to the shot you want to apply to. Hope that helps, Darren.

Great tips Darren! Thank you so much for sharing! I have a quick question though, in Resolve 16, how do I fix the gamma shift after delivering? The files that I export are always darker than it's supposed to be. My solution now is to import those files into FCPX and export it again, which matches the exact same look I did in Resolve. (I'm using Resolve 16.1.2)

Hi Darren thank you for this great video. I have a question please. I have to output my videos to KZbin and Instagram. My videos normally have texts throughout the clips. When I convert them to square, my texts will spill out. I don't use the subtitle track because I already use it for something else. Thank you

There is no set way....a collaborative workflow needs planning in the first instance to make sure pipeline is consistent throughout. I always talk to VFX before grade top check we are both on the same path. I can think about how to show you a typical workflow though, yes. All the best, darren.

It seems the render in-out range in deliver page very tough to control. Don't know if you experienced that. Something else that needs to be worked out is to restart a render from where it were at in the case of a crash for example. Watched all your videos and expecting new ones.

Hey Darren, since I am using Windows, I cannot export ProRes files from Davinci Resolve. What would you suggest as export setting if I want to render a file for a client that I have done the grading for? I've seen some people suggest using the voukoder plugin. I have loved watching your channel the last couple of months, you have seriously answered so many questions for me! I'm about to export my first real gig and I was wondering if you had suggestions on the "quality" section of the render--I notice this makes a huge difference in file size but when I export "best" I don't really notice a difference between that and, for example, 5K or 8K Kb/s (original footage is 10-bit footage from a DJI Mavic 2). Admittedly I'm using a consumer monitor but the final product will be theoretically shown on better screens. Do you have any sort of guidelines for what quality to export at? (the video is of performance art that is being submitted to museums and film festivals). It just feels like a bit of overkill to render/deliver a multi-gigabyte file when I can't see the difference between that and a lower-quality, smaller file. Is there an actual quality difference that might be seen on a better screen, or is it exporting "higher quality" that's actually capped out by the limits of the footage I took?
@DarrenMostyn

Hi Matthew. 8Mb/s is very good but 15-20 best for masters. Depends on duration of the show VS how big you want your file.
