Darren Mostyn Since finally, er, resolving, ahem, to make the switch, I’ve only opened Premiere once in the last 6 months to amend a legacy project. Everything since has been Resolve only to force myself to learn it. After spending countless hours finding my own way round and watching pointlessly-long, overcomplicated KZbin videos when trying to figure out one little thing, a series like this is a breath of fresh air! Thanks again, and if you’re ever in need of a junior/trainee colourist looking to learn more, and you’re based in the south east... I’m available! (Gotta take a punt with these things sometimes!).

What do you find to be best export settings in detail for Instagram. I notice alot of landscape size files fall apart and pixelate along with a faded look since Instagram uses sdr. Nobody is talking about Instagram quality of rendering. Everything is KZbin and sdr understandably. I’ve been reaching out to many on a gamma shift from viewer to ig upload. A warmer look appears on my phone compared to Davinchi viewer after I upload to Instagram. Thanks for all these videos. I’ve been saving and sending them all.

@@DarrenMostyn I honestly think you will be invaluable to a lot of people in the future. As I see it, a need for quality content is in high demand now since people realise the value of it. It seems to go into the direction of why, instead of how. You, among other great "tutorialists", typically explain why something should be done in a certain way, instead of just stating that push this button and then that button... which in the end teaches the viewer absolutely nothing. Imho, the time of quick fixes and one-button-miracles is over. Thank you again!

Hi. Can you elaborate ? white balancing a clapper is not a recommended method. White balance a colour chart, yes.

@@DarrenMostyn The clapper is white enough for me. The thing is, the clapper part is obviously edited out of any edit so you cannot see it in the colour page. Is there a way to see the entire clip without modifying the timeline? It would help color chart users too.
@DarrenMostyn4 жыл бұрын
@@antonarap No there is no way to do that. Edit a small bit of what you need to balance the shot - in your case the clapper, and just add to the end of the timeline in the edit page. It seems the render in-out range in deliver page very tough to control. Don't know if you experienced that. Something else that needs to be worked out is to restart a render from where it were at in the case of a crash for example. Watched all your videos and expecting new ones.

Ive never had problems with render range and never crashed during a render in 10 years! Are you using recommended specs machine.

Well i7-8700@3.2Ghz on windows10, 64gig of ram, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. I'm compositing 5 4k clips together in Fusion, maybe that's why I can't select a range.

Do you already have a video where you share your render settings for your You Tube videos? It’s so confusing and so many channels say “best render settings for You Tube” and they all contradict each other. I’d love to hear it from a Pro

Hi Scott. I dont have a video however set to H265 and 20000 mb. I now upload 2160p but am happy at 1080p too. Hope that helps. The default setting in Resolve for KZbin is not very high quality.
@scottdellefave18683 жыл бұрын
@@DarrenMostyn thank you. If I shot in 1080, should I upscale render to 4k or just keep project resolution? Is that what you mean when you say you now upload at 2160, or are you recording at 2160?
@DarrenMostyn3 жыл бұрын
@@scottdellefave1868 if you shot 1080, then keep it 1080. Will be great. I shoot at UHD so I upload now at UHD.

Hey Darren, since I am using Windows, I cannot export ProRes files from Davinci Resolve. What would you suggest as export setting if I want to render a file for a client that I have done the grading for? I've seen some people suggest using the voukoder plugin. What is your opinion on this? Thanks very much!
@DarrenMostyn2 жыл бұрын
DNX options. DNXHR or similar is ProRes equivalent.

@@TeipelFilms you are welcome. DNX is just as good as Prores...we use it often.

I am working off windows and don't have the ability to export Apple ProRes. What are the best export settings for instagram on PC? Just Quicktime, h264?
@DarrenMostyn4 жыл бұрын
H264 would work well, yes.

I have loved watching your channel the last couple of months, you have seriously answered so many questions for me! I'm about to export my first real gig and I was wondering if you had suggestions on the "quality" section of the render--I notice this makes a huge difference in file size but when I export "best" I don't really notice a difference between that and, for example, 5K or 8K Kb/s (original footage is 10-bit footage from a DJI Mavic 2). Admittedly I'm using a consumer monitor but the final product will be theoretically shown on better screens. Do you have any sort of guidelines for what quality to export at? (the video is of performance art that is being submitted to museums and film festivals). It just feels like a bit of overkill to render/deliver a multi-gigabyte file when I can't see the difference between that and a lower-quality, smaller file. Is there an actual quality difference that might be seen on a better screen, or is it exporting "higher quality" that's actually capped out by the limits of the footage I took?

Hi Matthew. 8Mb/s is very good but 15-20 best for masters. Depends on duration of the show VS how big you want your file.

Pro tip: type % on the File Name section of the delivery tab and you can automate the naming process.
