It's ridiculous. If you put your art on somebody's body, you can't keep intellectual property of it by the most simple of logic. If I get a tattoo and somebody takes a picture of me, do they have to pay the artist? No. You were compensated once. That's all you get. You can certainly display the art, but you're not entitled to further compensation.

@@jsmith3946 The difference there (I think) is that it wasn't Mike Tyson appearing in the film (that was the first one), but they had one of the characters get what was, in essence, a copy of Mike Tyson's face tattoo which was (presumably) designed by that guy. I can't think of another good analogous example because tattoos and movies intersect in kind of a unique way when it comes to IP and the like, but a parallel would be like if a film happened to do some shots in an art gallery or museum and some painting that some living artist did happened to be in the background, versus recreating that painting and having it be the target of a heist in your movie. But even that's not necessarily an IP violation because it isn't the piece itself that is making the plot work (ex: you could swap in just about any painting that we're informed will sell for a high value and it will still work), the case of Tyson's face tattoo was specifically used in that movie *because* of the recognizability of that facial tattoo and Tyson's role in the first film; if they'd just tattooed something else on his face it wouldn't have been the same kind of joke (there are different tattoos you could use for the sake of a joke of course). Note that this might not be correct; I'm not an IP lawyer, I just used to work for a few IP lawyers who talked about IP law a lot. The particulars might not be right, but based on what I have picked up, that seems to be the most likely key difference.
