It's not false. Fallout 4 is lacking in choice. Our complaint has to do with our freedom to make choices in quests and how the world reacts. Choosing things like killing or not killing an NPC is not satisfying choice one expects from an RPG. New Vegas is the only post-isometric Fallout game that managed to successfully blend FPS gameplay with meaningful choice.
@thomasgardiner63267 ай бұрын
I hate to be the guy to say it but shut up. Opinions are objective. Its a game with four factions that all have meaningful dialogue when you side with them. It also has intriguing and enjoyable side quests scattered throughout a humongous map. The quests feel fun and balanced and my only complaint is the variety of bugs. For me, Fallout 4 has a lot of options and fun choices, and whilst you can say you love NV all you want, you cant say that FO4 has no meaningful choices because thats an objective statement. Choosing a faction is significant. Theres lots of important questlines with different outcomes (eg Bunker Hill) depending on whether or not you side with a different faction or not. Its a 9 year old game. Its not going to have the expansiveness of modern titles. And NV is not a perfect almighty game either. Im sick of people trying to determine which game is objectively better and whats objectively right. Its a video game. Let people enjoy it in peace. Thank you.
@SadisticSenpai617 ай бұрын
The choices are much more limited, but they do exist. Even in Skyrim, the actual choices are pretty limited even without the strict 4 dialogue options. It's not the dialogue tree that limits the choices in Fallout 4. It's the way Bethesda planned the game - they artificially limited the choices themselves. They could have created interesting branches if they wanted to, even with the dialogue limitations. They just chose to go that route because while Bethesda games are open-world, the choices aren't made in dialogue - they're made by what you do outside the dialogue. That's been the case with Bethesda games from the start - even back in Morrowind. The many dialogue choices in earlier Bethesda games just gave us the illusion of choice. It was through the limited dialogue tree that said illusion of choice just became more obvious to players. But even then, we still very much enjoy their games. And many of us use mods to expand those choices beyond what Bethesda programmed into the game.

Yeah but if feels limiting, there are only 4 options per dialogue turn, sure the tree extends forever, but it’s a perfectly symmetrical tree which is boring. The other fallout games have more randomness which helps make it feel more like a story and less like video game, if that makes sense, sometimes you get 6 options, sometimes you get 2 or 1. It feels more like natural responses to the conversation
@magincap707 ай бұрын
@ALY-xc7fl yeah I get what you're saying but the the fallout 4 trees go deep sometimes. Some people have minutes of questions you can go through and choosing the right 3 or 4 buttons may lead you to a charisma check. Hell if you bully Mason enough he'll give you "the problem solver" which is one of the sickest guns ever. I think people suffer from the "it's not like the old ones so it sucks" mentality.
@ALY-xc7fl7 ай бұрын
@@magincap70 people absolutely suffer from that mentality and it is extremely frustrating. I feel like a lot of FO4 is unfairly criticized although it has plenty of valid criticisms. A lot of people just think newer games aren’t like the ones from “the good ole days” even if they’re just as good

* You do not need the Minutemen at all to take settlements. All they do is unlock the Castle. * Beating the mirelurk queen at the Castle is extremely easy. You know where she's going to walk. You know when she'll emerge. Just put down enough mines and she'll be dead before you see her.

Tenpin in the Galleria isn't scamming you. The reason he asks for 5000 prewar money is because that was how insane prewar inflation had gotten. It's an ingenious bit of environmental storytelling. It tells you that, before the bombs dropped, it cost $5000 for a single game of bowling...

Dogmeat up on his hind legs is one of his tricks you can ask him to perform, and this being a Bethesda game that scene is as likely a bug as it is a feature.

It's not the limited number of dialogue options that made people realise the main story has only one single meaningful decision, and it's yet another variation of Bethesda's old standby for "deep moral dilemmas", namely the same "Which shit sandwich would you rather eat?" that they _always_ use. Of course, limiting conversation to four options that are always the same - "↑: Question, →: Negative/aggressive, ↓:Positive/friendly, ←:Sarcastic/‘joking’ " - didn't exactly help to hide the fact that all story-relevant conversations are 100% on rails, with as many "branches" to the dialogue tree as a gun barrel. The writer decided that this conversation would proceed through points A, B, C, and D, and you _will_ follow this route, no matter what! It doesn't matter which option you chose at point A; if you're _lucky_ you'll get a variant response A1, A2, A3, or A4 before you're _inevitably_ moved on to point B (or back to point A again, if you pressed "up" to ask a question), then C, and finally D. The fact that each step of the way has three different "flavours" of moving on to the next point in the line doesn't make those into "choices". _That's_ why people say that, not because they didn't find some alternative routes in a couple of side quests.
@nessuno19847 ай бұрын
None of what you said is true. You obviously never went through all the dialogue choices, but I have and do every playthrough by reloading. Choosing the up arrow 'question' choice almost always unlocks another dialogue choice for up and if you keep choosing up there can be several more choices unlocked, and this gives you background information from the NPC that you could just skip by choosing another arrow instead if you don't want to hear it, so that's choice. Choosing up arrow can also unlock new left or right or down arrow dialogue which is not sarcastic or aggressive or friendly as that arrow normally is. You don't always end up at the same point as you could have annoyed the NPC so they won't tell you the info you want so they cut off the conversation, or made the NPC aggressive so ending the conversation prematurely, or sweet talked them with a speech check, or made them react with more info because you made a smartass comment or intimidated them. The dialogue you have with Maxson during Blind Betrayal has amazing variety if you go through it all or mix up your responses and that conversation seems to have the most variety. I played Fallout 4 then Fallout 3 and New Vegas and was surprised anyone would prefer the older games’ dialogue system as I was very annoyed with NPCs in the older games kicking me out of dialogue constantly and me having to interact with them again to ask them all the other available questions. Fallout 4 is far superior for this reason.

Saving Kent the ghoul is really hard. It can be done but you need to save before going in the room where the cut scene takes place. You have to be fast with vats and kill the ghoul pointing the gun at him. It takes a really powerful weapon
@volkerlanz64997 ай бұрын
Yeah, like a 10 mm. One or two VATS shots in Survival Mode if you have perks magazines. Sure a bit more difficult with a low-agility low-level character.

With high Charisma, you can convince them to make Kent watch his hero (you) die. So they don't kill him, and you can fight them safely as long as nobody tosses any grenades.

Not a great episode. You can get rid of the henchmen at the end of the Silver Shroud quest simply by passing all the Silver Shroud dialogue checks. The henchmen don't think you're crazy, they think they're actually facing the Shroud - and they surrender. And just because some of those other "choices" expose dialogue, it doesn't mean they're options worth taking. A KZbinr I used to follow while playing Fallout New Vegas seemed to have an instinct for finding rare dialogue you could feel good about going for.

I'm not sure if I'm an unpopular opinion here, but just go to goodneighbor and save just before attempting to steal the fat man and mini-nukes. That way, if they catch you, just reload from that save. Then you are fully equipped with enough firepower to fricking 1-tap the mirelurk queen. It's so easy, but no one thinks of the fat man just sitting there. It's because it's pretty hard to steal it. And hell only knows no one is buying that shit. The price they put on it is like 10x markup. You might want to have the sneaky perk for it too. It raises chances of stealing it successfully to 100% as long as you are crouching and the top of your screen says [hidden]
@OriginalLictre5 ай бұрын
Why bother to steal the fat man at goodneighbor, when you can go East and a little north from Sanctuary and pick up a fatman and at least one mini-nuke at the Robotics Disposal Ground, where you can also find one of the Hot-Rodder magazines.
