Xi Jinping has changed China tremendously in his first 10 years as President. While Western media is universally negative about Xi, China has also made some remarkable accomplishments this past decade. Let's break down the 10 biggest while also staying balanced and highlighting the biggest challenges for Xi in his next 5 year term and beyond.

Hi Cyrus, we were once connected on LinkedIn but sadly, I was labeled as a "CCP troll" or even being as one of "50 cent army" when I posted positive articles about China. My posts about the US and NATO responsibility in the Ukraine conflict was deemed to be misinformation and had been permanently restricted. Needless to say, freedom of information is under threat! P.S. I am glad you moved to Canada. With blessings to you and your family. ☺

I’ve been living in China for almost 15 years now and have seen it’s miraculous rise. I came to China as an arrogant westerner and after getting to know the country and its people, I’m humbled. Unfortunately, most western people have little or no knowledge about the history of China and they know nothing about the damage western countries have inflicted on China in the past 100 years or more… if only they knew, they might be more understanding. The Chinese have built an incredible country for themselves in the past 20 years and it should go down in the annals of history as one of the greatest achievements of any single country but instead abuse is heaped upon them for their success by a guarded and jealous west. The smallest improvement in China is now perceived as a dangerous threat. I have no idea how history will unfold but from what I have seen with my eyes in China, they deserve the greatest acclaim the world can give them for the eradication of poverty. When I travel back to Western Europe I’m shocked by the image of China that’s portrayed in the media and cannot recognize the monster which is portrayed. I have no doubt that if China was in ”the West” it’s leaders would be showered with accolades of every description. China’s biggest “mistake” has been that it has been too successful for the powers that be, in this era. I do know however, that history will tell a different story about China and it will be one which the people of China will be proud of for it was created with sweat and tears and determination, and, to this point, not a single invasion or ounce of blood in the modern era.

First-hand truth well spoken. I've been more and more disgusted by the West's hypocrisy and shamelessness in its propaganda against China. People in the West are so gullible and polarized that they focus on hating the opposite side, domestically and internationally, while their nations are in disarray and irreparably collapsing. The day of reckoning is almost here in a perfect storm.

Perfect comment. I'm an American who has spent a lot of time in China over the last 15 years and I could not agree more. Modern China with its development and poverty alleviation should be celebrated and used as a model to help other developing countries grow. As you said, China has accomplished all of these things peacefully. It saddens and sickens me to see how the west is treating and portraying China. When I watch and read western media news about China, it is one lie after another.

I am from Singapore. We receive a lot of biased reports about China bcoz our main language medium is in English. Thankfully, we still receive some positive reporting, plus our government don't take sides and has always been supportive of the progress of China. To be fair, if Xi is not a Chinese from China, wouldn't he be awarded the Nobel Peace Award for his results to lift million of people out of poverty and for initiative to build massive infrastructure in his neighbouring countries?

Sadly, Canada is in steep decline. Decades of our Security Industrial Complex meddling in our economy and liberty, producing poor characters and performers, all so they and their families can milk the system. Canada loses it's best and brightest for a reason while China looks to attract these talents and produce their own.

Who say so? With due respect Cyrus does not contribute to the understanding of China or for that matter any knowledge of the geopolitics, history or anything else. He keeps wanting to bridge the gap between China and the Disunited States without extensive and deep knowledge. He is as I have told him a Pollyana about it. The need to contain China is driven by pure and simple racism that the Chinese will not be any better than the Caucasians. This seemed to be ingrained in them and the video of the Fat Boy Slim Pompeo is a fine exemplar of such infantile behaviour. The aging population is also a phenomena across the East Asian countries and those which had rapid economic development like Singapore, Japan and Korea. It is nothing new but the advent of AI and robotics will largely be the replacement of labour in manufacturing or even service industries like public transport with driverless trains and buses not to mention cars. The housing bubble is nothing but a furphy as China does not support the reckless property speculation and those property tycoons are forced to make good their losses by selling thier own properties squirreled away in foreign countries which Hui of Evergrande is forceed to do. He like most Western media and government seemed so troubled by China's DYNAMIC zero Covid-19 without understanding what are the protocols and measures. It is their loss as there is a new wave of more virulent mutation. Who cares if it will impact on their own societies and cause deaths. China will look after their own people and those who live in her boundaries. Ever Onward China. 💪💪💪

I’m very optimistic about China’s future. The trend in my opinion is very clear. American decline is actually accelerating and China’s rise is also accelerating. I don’t know any American who is proud of their government, everyone is moving to either extreme left or extreme right. US’ own allies are all in a mess, Japan, UK, Germany are in deep troubles. Canada and Australia are heavily dependent on US, so when US goes down, they go down. Almost all the other countries want to befriend or work closely with China, which most westerners won’t hear about in western MSM, but is happening. In 5 years, Taiwan will be back and Yuan will be bigger than Euro, and China will dominate the car market. Can’t be more proud to be an ethnic Chinese

I grew up in China and have been living in US since 1989. I visited my parents in China almost every year before the COVID. Since Xi becomes the president, I have witnessed gradual and amazing improvements in the ordinary people’s lives that almost every people I met in China wholeheartedly honor, support and praise President Xi. The biggest accomplishment of Xi in my mind is the elimination of Honelessness. I used to see a lot beggars when I visited China, but for the past 5-7 year I saw none, truly none because I do homeless services in US so I paid special attention looking for homeless people or beggars. Every time I think of how President Xi helped the poor and eliminated the the homelessness, my eyes are filled with tears, what a leader truly for his people! In the contrary, the homeless people kept growing almost in every city in US, how many leaders truly care about the desperate struggles of those unfortunate homless people!? In my mind most homeless people are the victim of this capitalized country and heartless leaders while richer have too much yet countless people has absolutely nothing.

Thank you Cyrus for taking the time to make this video. It is fair to say that in any country with presidential elections, a leader such as Xi would be enthusiastically re-elected for a 3rd term, so it is no surprise that he was himself re-elected by his peers within the party. But your assessment of the challenges to come is also very honest. Those are not the result of mis-management by Xi or the party. Declining birth rates and aging population are a problem facing every developed country. Also, doubling the amount of STEM graduates so fast will inevitably make it more difficult for them to find a job. The real estate crisis was long in the making, and eventual the "bubble" had to burst. Everybody knew that, and the government has tried in many ways, and continues to try, to engineer a "soft landing" in the sector. Hopefully this will be resolved in the coming year or so without too much damage. Growth is inevitably slowing in relative terms, but if you look at absolute numbers, even a growth of 4% adds much more to the GDP than a growth of 10% 10 years ago. The numbers are just staggering. So China starts to face the same problems as other developed countries now. It's a new ball game, let's see how they can handle it. It is however sad that geo-political games played by the US are so damaging for both countries, and the rest of the world. More than ever, the world needs to unite in peace to face the upcoming challenges. It's no time for war and division.

I think that the Chinese leadership also understand the challenges very well. They have foreseen it some years ago. Xi's leadership team will be aiming to steer through the challenges as smoothly as possible and for that they need to be united and pulling in the same direction. It would be interesting to see this pans out in the next 5 years. If only the US would just keep its tentacles to itself and stop cooking up troubles for others.

If I was the president I would make this man the ambassador of US embassy in China. A complete political appointment, but I would call it a merit appointment. This man has the understanding which is needed in order to control and provide a possible solution for the unstoppable future. China will become very strong the nation out thinks us on so many level, it is best to make a friend out of this type of reality. I worked in US embassies for over 10 years and they are nothing close to this man, most of them are war hawks even the one in the humanist agencies. The only thing they think about is nation interest and nothing else, attempting to chip away at any society which does not take direct order from everything US tells them to do. It made me not want to be a diplomat, the environment was toxic not diplomatic.

It isn't surprising that western leadership is going out of its way at every turn to stigmatize Xi and make him look like an unsavory character. Even with its challenges, China has in record time has made itself into a major world power through the perseverance and hard work of its people and through very effective leadership. As someone who lived and worked in China for several years, and who enjoyed the extraordinary graciousness, courtesy and friendship of the Chinese people, I am appalled and infuriated by the west's misrepresentation and condemnation of the country and its leadership. The frank truth is that China is leaving the west behind in so many ways and the western powers are too immature and arrogant to see that cooperation and peaceful co-existence are the way forward, not reckless competition, militarism and vain sabre-rattling. The US and western European nations should be so lucky to have a leader as capable as Xi.

Every country has its own problems and has to confront with challenges. What makes me optimistic about Chinas future is, the Chinese government is always committed to solving domestic prolems, not like some other countries, especially many westen countries, who are continuously seeking the faults of the others and making chaos and troubles in the other countries to destract themselves from their own problems, crisis and challenges. It's definitely rational for China to think constantly about the challenges and threats in the future, because we say in China, 居安思危,未雨绸缪。

China has 5,000 years of history and is among the world's oldest "continuous" civilization still alive today whereas other ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Rome eventually succumbed to history. Throughout its long history, China has witnessed the birth and death of various other nations, the rise and fall of numerous empires, yet China has survived the oftentimes violent passage of history to modern times relatively intact. History has shown that China has benefited from having a *strong central government* (i.e under the Emperor and the Imperial Court), and modern-day China is merely continuing on this tradition. Not all countries have to adopt Western style democracy to be successful and China is living proof of this.

Happy people, safety, technology advanced, modern & traditional people, environmentally conscious, … As long as people obey the law & immediately comply with police, all is good. There is no negotiations when the police or military tell you to do something. In the US, most people try to negotiate. China does not play that game. These are my experiences. Other people might have different experiences. I ask permission before doing things and I follow the law & customs every country I visit.

Salute to you sir! Wish more westerners can understand and appreciate the way you do. The west have an old saying, "When in Rome, do what the Romans do." Yet, many western politicians and people expect other nations to do what they want. Ironically and sadly, they impose but never practise what they preach. When I go to your country, I conduct myself the way you would expect me to and it's only a matter of mutual respect that you do the same when you come to my country. Unfortunately, western politicians with their agenda and propaganda, instigate their people through misinformation and fake news that totally distort the image of other nations. Often they demonize other nations. And unfortunately also, many in the west do not have much access to foreign media and regard their often misinforming mainstream media as the Holy books of the west. In the end, many westerners unknowingly end up being the most misinformed in the world. Fortunately though, less than 4.5% of the world live in the USA.

Dengxiaoping and Hujintao, of course made great achievements, but Maozedong and Xijinping their names will be remembered forever. Because they are "People's leaders" who don't have themselves in mind, but only the people ❤️ 十年前他走马上任,誓言八个字:“我将无我,不负人民”。 十年后再度高票连任,因为他践行着自己的诺言。 邓小平,胡锦涛固然是功高盖世,但是毛泽东和习近平将名垂千古👍 因为他们都是心中没有自己,只有人民的“人民领袖” ❤️

Watching from India, and we have our own coloured biases that run rampant about China, needless to say.. Cyrus has made a mistake in his video. "Li Keqiang said: 40% of Chinese can save 1000 RMB or less every month". That does not mean "earn" less than 1000 RMB, but the balance of the income and consumption. you earn 8000 RMB a month, but spend 7000 RMB, then you balance is still 1000 RMB. this rumor has been spreading widely but not a single media has clearly pointed out the trick here. Because they can not correct face the rising China.

I believe that you are correct. $1,000 RMB is equivalent to about $142 US dollars. That is very unlikely. One of my friend's mother in China works as a domestic worker in Shanghai. She's 53 years old and from the villages and does not even have a high school education. She makes $6,700 RMB per month. My relatives living in China, under 30 are highly educated and makes RMB $20,000+. So, it's hard to believe that 40% of the people makes $1000 RMB. If that's the case, how can they afford to buy all the luxury handbags and the BMW's?
